  1. who cares if we had reyes at the time? we moved him to 2B for kaz matsucki but we wouldn't do it for tejada? thats the kind of thinking that got the last GM booted.
  2. Seo > heilman IMO, i'd give up Reyes and heilman, i wouldnt give reyes and milledge unless they either gave us something else or paid some of the contract. honestly though, Tejada is a great player and any Tejada trade that doesn't involve a truly absurd package (reyes, milledge, and seo for example) is fine with me.
  3. it would be criminal for the Mets not to make a serious offer if Tejada is available.
  4. Elster, don't insult real reporters by calling him one.
  5. Tejada's 2005 may look worse than his 2004 across the board, but his OPS+ was actualy 6 points better. the AL league OPS this past year dropped significantly to what i believe was its 2nd lowest number in 15 years.
  6. the pythagorean wins for each team last year: SD: 77 LA: 74 SF: 71 COL: 70 ARZ: 66 wow. they were even worse than they looked, every single one of them. even with regression to the mean i see no reason why 82 wins won't win this division again unless someone actualy goes out and significantly improves themself.
  7. Reyes and Bannister. offer it now.
  8. i actually took your Renteria comment as a serious one, Elster...sarcasm is hard to read sometimes especially when its just a one line post with a "prediction" that could be taken either way. if i had made a post in the "mets get delgado thread" that said "this is amazing, i gaurantee we'll win 95 games now" would anyone have known how seriously i meant that? i'm not knocking on you, just pointing out an obvious problem with internet message boards, sarcasm is often hard to detect
  9. the loretta move was foolish and i like lawrence, but they do seem to be doing ok this offseason.
  10. no, but the "bad move police" will!
  11. Elster88 wrote: Seriously, if you want him and can't get him to take a 1-year deal, why not just look for a backup who's not in his late-forties? Is this a difficult question? my answer is getting closer and closer to "because he's hispanic." i'm still kidding, of course, but if this 47 year old gets 2 years i'll have to at least have that in the back of my head where before i gave it no credibility at all.
  12. renteria is overpaidm good job by boston, i hope Marte turns out to be david wright now
  13. Elster88 wrote: How could a reporter possibly start a rumor like this when he could risk his career and reputation? Have I beaten that line into the ground yet? Do I get the dead horse award? nope, keep it coming. someone still hasn't responded to the question you've asked them 3 or 4 times in that thread.
  14. 2 years to a 37 year old bench player would be questionable, but to a 47 year old? this team has truly lost it if this turns out to be true.
  15. good for them. they are the the only team in our division i don't despise and its nice to see this abused franchise trading to get a guy they really want (even if i personally don't like him much)
  16. ]I think Jeff Kent has a gravitational force that constantly draws Jose Vizcaino to him. teams they have been on together: '94 NYM '95 NYM '96 NYM & CLE '97 SF '03 HOU '04 HOU '06 LA? They've been together for 6 years (certainly not a record) but on 4 different teams! (5 if vizcaino join LA) have any other players played on the same team for 4 different franchises?
  17. good deal for the redsox. Loretta can leadoff if Damon leaves town.
  18. the high level of accountability in their corner of the journalism world must have cost them all their jobs, right?
  19. your new logo should be labeled "Christmas Tree" just in case some moron who has taken political correctness too far wishes to call it a holiday tree... [/end rant] i really hope Clemens retires i hate that guy. and i hope even more that he doesnt become a yankee again.
  20. speaking of Dave Mlicki, his page on baseball reference is unsponsored despit his shutting out the MFYs in the first ever "subway series" game. for the low cost of $10 you can go write and thank him for that fond memory!
  21. Casey has a career OPs+ of 113, which i'll assume (i havent looked and wouldnt even know where to look) is decent but not good for a first baseman. his last 4 years are 78, 98, 142, and 104. He is 31 years old and made 7.8 million last year (i can only assume that goes up a bit as most contracts are backloaded) the Reds had 5 guys for 4 spots and they aren't a NY team, purging that salary without a downgrade to their lineup is probably a benefit in and of itself, the question is did they get rid of the right guy? Player- positions* (age**) OPS for 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005 Casey - 1B (30) 78, 98, 142, 104 Griffey - OF (35) 100, 140, 128, 138 Dunn - RF/LF/1B (25) 118, 112, 152, 135 Kearns- OF (25) 130, 113, 97, 99 Pena - OF (23) 52***, 66***, 121, 100 *my own extrapolation of where they can play, i havent checked games played to see so feel free to disagree or correct me. **the age at which they played last season according to baseballreference.com *** Pena had only 18 ABs in 2002 and 185 ABs in 2003 Dunn is flat out better and younger. Pena is the youngest of the bunch, could be just as good a hitter, and is probably seen as the future in CF (a position far harder to fill than 1B.) Griffey certainly has more upside but with more age, injury risk, and a higher contract he is arguably the worst bet of the bunch. Kearns was a highly regarded prospect but seems to have gotten progressively worse in the majors, he might have been a better choice to deal than Casey (except for contract considerations and 5 years of age.) in the end they'd have probably done better to trade griffey (but only if they didnt pay the salary which is unlikely) or Kearns (but only if they got a better player than Williams back since Kearns is cheap) in a deal for Williams i think Casey was the best choice to give up, if they're not paying the contract at all. The money saved with which they might be able to afford ANOTHER starting pitcher is a good thing for this team.
  22. assuming the contract is insured against his previous injuries (this guy gets hurt alot and the insurance companies often won't touch injuries you've already had) its a good deal.
  23. Elster88 wrote: ="abogdan"]Olerud had maybe the best three consecutive seasons that any Met has ever had. I wouldn't go that far, but it was great to have him on the team. piazza certainly never matched them as a Met....strawberry probably did but i'm not bothering to look.
  24. ....[/end hijack].... anyone with an opinion on Grady Little?
  25. i think this is a good trade for the Reds. Williams is a talented young pitcher probably at least on par with Heilman. Sean Casey has always been overrated and more importantly overpaid (while i can assume Williams is still a year or two away from arbitration much less free agency)
