  1. ]so, given those assumptions, and a 2006 full of offensive progress - ie raising his OBP to at least 350ish .350 would be a HUGE step and if he did t hat i'd sign him long term on the spot, but its also awfully optimistic, i'd put the chances at about 2% or equal to the chances of him slipping down to about .250
  2. can't have unlimited choices in a poll.... my thinking is that i'd rather narrow it down between those 2 radical alternatives and then, if necessary switch around 1 or 2 positions
  3. i picked "other" which i hope includes the option "I've begun to question Bret's sexuality"
  4. thread closed at 10 votes for roto, i guess if all the remaining non-voters show up and vote for something else we may have to change it but lets get moving in the right direction for now...
  5. i'd like to get a poll on roster sizes up soon....if anyone has any additional input for this subject before the poll goes up you have a few more days.... right n0w the poll will probably look like this: A) 2xC, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, MI, CI, 5XOF, UT, 9XP C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, 3XOF, UT, 7XP we'd decide on the more specific issue of whether the "pitchers" get divided into starters and relievers later. we'd also decide on bench & DL size after voting on the starting roster size.

LMAO what was everyone else's moment like that, the one they won't admit to their significant other means more than sex? i'm with Pratt's ball goin over the fence....i was 16 and it was my first playoff game.
  8. ]This discussion from the start belongs in the "rest of the bullpen 2006" thread i thought you hated the thread police?
  9. Reyes has 3 more potential trips to the arbitrator, right? why not let the first one occur and then see another year (2007) before making any kind of long term plans
  10. ] 28 saves, good for tenth in the NL. thats a negative not positive, when you consider thee are 16 teams ad several who had unsettled closer situations all year that puts him into the bottom third of NL closers

    Yea or Nay

playing MI will help keep him healthier? i'm not seeing that...
  12. ]Grudzielanek would be a perfect fit for the Mets. IF we can get rid of the Matsui contract i think Grudz is better, but he's not better enough to justify paying both him and matsui, imo.

his worst year (this past one) was a 99 OPS+, the year before was a 112. if you get back to the 112 level (but not back to his previous standards) isn't that a great guy to have who is also capable of multiple positions?
  14. ban ban ban. i'm all in favor of people making up names and pretending to be real life people (or pretending to be a muppet) but when your clear intent is to impersonate another user on this board you should get the ban. i don't want to see "nymr 83," "brent sabermetric," and "swltchhitter" (thats a lower case "L" impersonating a capital "i") running around.
  15. i meant "they dont know who he is" more as a knock on their knowledge of sabermetrics in general. i have the feeling that most arbitrators don't care what your OBP looks like and that they'll see a regression in OBP and SLG accompanied by an increase in a more team-oriented stat (RBIs) and see that as a step forward for a player. i also think they overrate statistics, like the stolen base, that most people have since seen to be far less important than they were once thought to be.
  16. Bret Sabermetric wrote: ="seawolf17"] He might not just sign a one-year deal. I think that's what arbitration is: a one-year deal at a figure chosen by Mr. Arbitrator. unfortunately, i don't think Mr. Arbitrator has any idea who Bill James is or what OPS means....guys like Reyes tend (in my opinion) to get more in arbitration than better players with the same service time.
  17. we all saw the old title, changing it now gives zero shock value. sorry val.
  18. read more closely. the world baseball championship didn't bar anyone, the US government did.
  19. "file not found" on the top one of the 3 links, healey. (the other 2 are working fine)
  20. lets not forget the injury factor either....he stayed healthy for once but unless he does it a 2nd straight year i wouldnt start counting on him to do it often...
  21. right now i've got to go with "offer arbitration." he's done nothing to deserve a multi-year deal.
  22. Bret- i'd have sent Reyes to the 8-hole a long time ago. but i fear that he could lower his already abysmal OBP and STILL be considered a good leadoff hitter by certain people who like to ignore stats.
  23. Frayed Knot beat me to it....who else would you like to have seen cut with tons of money owed sal? please don't tell us piazza because even if he was making too much there was still no adequate replacement out there.
  24. yes he did, BUT all GMs are going to make mistakes (hey Billy hows Hatteberg doing? Theo, Renteria?) the question is what do you do about those mistakes once you've made them.
