So you're giving up a decent 3/4 starter (not great, I'm not suggesting that for a minute) for a guy who's likely to be the 5/6th man in the pen? fookin' stoopid that'd be. Kris Benson has never been better than mediocre either. the deal is dumb because a mediocre starter has greater value than a mediocre reliever.
  2. from 2B to CF is a step down? i'd consider 2B an easier position...
  3. 5 right, not bad since i wasn't born for any of these events.
  4. not that i think they ARE moving a SS to CF...but if they did they could get a 3Bman easier than a CF....i'm sure guys like Joe randa are available. theres also the (now ugly looking) Beltre contract which might be available and can't Aubrey Huff play 3rd? the D-Rays wouldnt shy away from dealing him i dont think.
  5. they have a ringer over at 3B who, despite what MFY fans might think, is the best defensive SS on the team. i'd have loved to see Giles in RF at Shea but oh well.
  6. i'm with seawolf because FAAB would require everyone to send their bids to me every week as yahoo doesnt support the bidding on-site. waivers should be fine.
  7. by a vote of 11-0 (as of this post) we are having a snake draft.
  8. i'd love to fit more but i can't gaurantee yahoo will allow it, so anyone else who wants in please be on notice not to get your hopes up (or start complaining to yahoo now)
  9. he led the league in OPS+ on 4 seperate occasions, you cant keep him out on the stats...i guess it really is the steroids that have soured me on him.
  10. Gwynn and Ripken. pass on McGwire the 1st time around i still want to think about him. no way to Harold Baines imo.
  11. i think if its free yahoo is a given

More than enough bats in the lineup. i dont want to offer him arbitration and have to pay him 70% of last year's contract, if he'll take say 3 million plus major incentives (along the lines of 2 mil for 300 plate appearences, another 2 mil for 500 and maybe 1 mil for winning the catcher silver slugger)
  13. by a vote of 12-1 (as of this post) we will be a free league.
  14. there are twenty owners signed up, 11 votes for any given option in a poll will end that poll.
  15. but the vigilant owner will have MORE guys do well on a larger roster thus offsetting any "luck"created by having more players, being able to take a guy that you think will have a breakout year and put him in your 4th or 5th outfielder spot or your 2nd catcher spot when he wouldnt be a starter with a smaller roster is a good thing.
  16. murdock, i definetaly think that people who pay attention regularly deserve an edge over those who don't... my issue is giving an edge to the internet junkies who learn that player X is now the new closer for team Y out of nowhere at 3:25 AM. we can partially alleviate this by having all players coming over from the AL or up from the minors on waivers for 3-4 days, but i'm not sure what we can do about a "race to the keyboard" thing like a guy already on the roster being named closer.
  17. thats wayyyyy too much to give up. frankly i would give them Milledge straight up if we're paying the entire salary and thats it. if they want Floyd and anyone else they need to pony up some $$ to pay for that big albatross of a contract that we'd be taking.
  18. the length of this contract worries me some, but i'm glad to have him.
  19. Less power than you'd think - CARLOS BELTRAN Root for the laundry- ??? Screwball - JOHN FRANCO He managed to take that single talent of hitting a baseball really hard, and make a decent 3-4 year career out of it.- MATT FRANCO He could play anywhere but pitch and catch- JOE MCEWING Some stars fade away- MIKE PIAZZA Other stars explode and drop out of the sky - MIKE LOWELL He hit his career peak at 35 - RANDY JOHNSON Tough luck pitcher - GLENDON RUSCH (GIVE ME SOME FUCKIN RUN SUPPORT!!!) Good two-strike hitter- TONY GWYNN

  21. theres no way 20 of us would find 6+ consecutive hours to spend in a chat room together. i do a league with 10 people and it takes 4 hours and its a pain to schedule the auction ever year.
  22. Blyleven definetaly. Sutter, Rice, Trammell and Gossage maybe. everyone else no.
  23. heep wrote: We needed a presence in the lineup and we got it. We needed a closer and we got the best. We will acquire catcher. We lost draft picks. Ok. We lost a pitching prospect. Ok. Do we need to give up Milledge? Ramirez is is a two tool HOF presence for 3 years. You cannot compare the 2 players, but Milledge has the potential to provide 5 tools and 15 years. I don't like this deal. Does anyone share my thoughts? we didn't need "a" lineup presence, we needed multiple ones, Delgado is a good addition but i still don't expect us to be in the top 5 in the NL in runs scored. as for Ramirez, all "tools" are not created equal...hitting for average and hitting for power (the two "tools" that i assume you are saying he has) are more important than the others.
  24. we can house it in my attic for all i care...lets get them books!
  25. he's not a good player, but he's a better 5th outfielder than the guy he's taking over for (gerald williams), so i guess theres no reason not to like the move.
