  1. college pitchers are generally "ready" pretty fast, i'd suspect that if the Mets wanted he could be in AA by year's end and at Shea in 2007.
  2. ]there was about a 6 week stretch where we had a much better winning percentage when Shrek was our starting catcher over when Mikey was our catcher...and it wasn't because Shrek was the world's greatest complete catcher, just that he had less "achillies heels"... six weeks is a small sample size in that regard, besides which it might have helped that Piaza was catching Ishii while Castro was our best pitcher's personal caddy.

Rockin' Doc wrote: In the winter of 2003 (or 2004), Bill Singer, a recently hired special assistant to the director of scouting for the Mets, made racially insensitive remarks to the Dodgers Kim Ng at the MLB winter meeting. I can't remember what exactly Singer said, but it cost him his job and the Mets organization some embarrassment. I'm well aware of that, but Bret made allegations of CORRUPTION in the mets front office, this is inapproriate, not corrupt. I'm still waiting for "corrupt" met official, Bret.....
  4. skirt-chasing doesn't make you "corrupt"... stealing from the team, intentionally doing your job poorly, etc make you corrupt. racism? well i suppose if it affects your scouting judgments that would qualify, but i'm not sure who you are talking about
  5. ]I think they've shown atrocious judgment in hiring executives, ranging from the hopelessly corrupt to the nepotistic to the clueless to the untested, and hanging onto them instead of saying "Christ, another mistake!" and firing their inept asses who exactly was corrupt? i think most GMs are "nepotistic" to some degree or another. we've had our share of clueless though. ]If I were a betting man, I'd bet that'll be nmyr83's new sig line by Tues. well, not now that you said it.
  6. with the bullshit loss of Seo does Soler get a shot?
  7. ] In 40 years, if Reyes is our best offensive shortstop ever, we've never had one who rose above 100 OPS+ for a whole season? who are "we", i thought you weren't a Met fan anymore?
  8. ] things aren't as clear like trading a 19 year old with a great arm for a serviceable catcher i think you hit it right on the head there...the key word is SEVICEABLE, you shouldnt trade your top prospects for mediocre players, its perfectly ok to trade them for good players (and i encourage it.)
  9. in responce to hillbilly's question (what would we have done) my answer is: pretty much nothing. I'd have made the Delgado trade, signed Billy Wagner, and then sat on my ass waiting for the better offers that would come for Cameron, the desperate Marlins ready to give up loduca for nothing (or molina suddenly finding himself without a market), a middle reliever that didnt cost Seo's arm, etc. Because there was no urgent need for Sanchez, Nady, or Loduca and i'd rather have back what we gave to get them.
  10. one thing is true- its not Reyes' fault that the Mets see him as a leadoff hitter... how bad does he look when we look at him the context of a good-glove 8-hitter? (of course he'd have to get paid like one)
  11. Mark McGwire? i know he pitched in college
  12. it seems very likely to me that Benson and Zambrano have shown all they have to show considering their ages. Can Heilman improve? maybe, but i was never a huge fan of Heilman the starter (i like Heilman the 8th inning guy though.)
  13. ]He preached responsibility for your actions. And it was clearly evident that he made an impact in this regard. Cliff Floyd appeared in 150 games for the first time since 1998. what does any of this have to do with Floyd's sudden and fortuitous health?
  14. Clemente had power even without walking and those were different times in terms of league averages...his OPS+ numbers the first 5 years were 76, 105, 73, 96, 91....those numbers dont earn you a big contract but they dont get you booted to the curb either...particularly before all this nasty free agency business, patience was more affordable then.
  15. i'm signing up for the sun.
  16. I definetaly think the staff ERA will rise, none of these guys are on the upside of the hill. The Mets should score more runs though.
  17. taking away for a minute the rumors that peterson is behind such foolish moves as the kazmir trade, pitching ishii for so long, and now the seo trade, the staff ERA has been good so i can't see his job being in any danger.
  18. eeeexcellent
  19. apparently we all know something Seo that omar doesn't....he's a better pitcher than the guy you got back! edit- i find it very obnoxious that when i change my sig quote the old one doesnt stay on previous posts.
  20. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FIRE OMAR
  21. i firmly believe that the very existence of the "save" stat has hurt baseball by forcing guys into an arbitrary role that isn't always best for that game...the best example is this: opponent's 3, 4, 5 hitters due up in the 8th and you have a 1 run lead...your best reliever threw last night so you probably won't send him out there for 2 innings....do you put him in the 8th or save him for the 9th? without the "save" stat i have to believe intelligence says the 8th
  22. i think this is a dumb idea. for one think, inning 1 is always important, inning 3 or 4 when you want pedro in could already be down 4-0. next, what if he comes in with that 4-0 deficit and proceedes to throw 7 shutout innings with only 80 pitches? sounds like he could have gone 9 but we'll never know will we? a better idea (imo) to get a top starter more important innings is to use him in relief on the "throwing day" between starts.
  23. Baez isn't that good dammnit!
  24. ]I think the team considers Seo their top pitcher. At least someone realizes that he's good.
  25. Vic Sage wrote: I would agree that a more ACCURATE analysis would be to see how many times during EACH of those 12 seasons that he lead the league in what categories (if any). To the extent that seawolv was saying that Rice finished 1st or 2nd in 8 offensive categories in EACH of those 12 seasons, then that is a plenty good argument. that would certainly be a good argument, the entire 12 year span isn't imo because ther could be a ton of guys with partially overlapping better careers
