  1. preserving buildings just because they are old is stupid if they aren't nice buildings.
  2. Any deal that involved trading away David Wright is a huge bullet dodged. the rumored Soriano for Reyes deal would have sucked (not that i'm incredibly high on Reyes but man do i hate Soriano) put Ramon Hernandez on the list...if he'd gotten even as much as the Mets offered they'd have come to regret it.
  3. do you really hink they are trusting the 3cents/hr workers in china to build pedro's special shoe? the reason it hasn't arrived yet is because they used union labor so the guys are done building it but they are out taking a 6-hour coffee break before they ship it.
  4. The Post had Randy Winn mistakenly listed at Catcher.
  5. yeah but your picture is obviously a publicity photo as of where the picture of Mrs. Lima is a "natural" shot. I invite you to find the "natural" shots of Anna from the Post when benson was traded, she's not looking so good unless he's all done up as of where Mrs. Lima looks good anyway.
  6. i still like her better... yeah Lima could be worth having at AAA especially with our suddenly not-so-deep rotation. If everyone is performing up to their potential he's still behind Soler and maybe Bannister but ahead of Maine and Iriki i'd think, and if those guys aren't doing well he could very well be the 6th starter.

    Soler

That's interesting. But isn't getting into that gooey area called "talent" stand to be to Zambrano's great advantage? His results may be average or slightly above ... but just about everyone except the first seven batters in that Brewers game last August would respect his "talent" -- his combo of pitches, speed, movement... his "stuff" if you will. I'm sure Omar & Willie would tell you they're more motivated by Zambrano's talent than his ERA+ or VORP. Not saying that's a good idea. ok i definetaly put that wrong, what i meant was their results independent of the playing time that some manager did or did not give to them.

    Soler

the problem with VORP in evaluating players is that it tells you their contribution in the time they played, not in the time they SHOULD play based on their talent. for pitchers i'd like to see a park-adjusted OPS allowed, but i can't find it anywhere, ERA+ is a useful enough tool in comparing guys even if you want to fight over where average is.
  11. We can't wait forever on this... Option 3 is clearly winning when you consider that anyone who voted for more would vote for it in a runoff against less and the other way around. I'll leave this poll open until FRIDAY to see if anyone else wants to vote, otherwise we move on.

    Soler

the thing is that Zambrano has already shown that he can't be more thana league average pitcher, and he's usually less than that. i'd rather see if Soler can be better and give him a crack at the rotation.
  13. Matsui hasn't exactly stolen "as advertised" even though his rate is fine. rey ordonez always seemed fast but couldnt steal bags.
  14. the olerud story takes the cake
  15. well theres little disputing that they are a waste of time, but politicians and ballplayers are united in their need for useless publicity stunts, so it works out well for all involved.
  16. it is PATHETIC that a guy who doesnt run hard on groundballs and watches what he thinks is a homer become a single that shoulda been a double/triple gets to coach. this guy is the epitome of the "me me me" ballplayer and the LAST guy who should be instructing anyone. there are hundreds of ex-players more worthy of this job.
  17. that "irony" works both ways, so called "pro-choice" liberals whine and cry about a few deaths on the other side of the world but don't give a rats ass about the murder of unborn children right here at home.
  18. fuckin foreigners, this is anti-americanism is what it is, we kick their asses so they run and cry and get rid of our sport. we should boycott european goods or something lol
  19. Guillen is right because they changed the date on him. Lets see how Dailey would like it if they tried making him trek up to Washington while he was vacationing wiith his family.
  20. ]Brian McCann, who's having a monster year, is at the plate stop naming all my fantasy sleepers people!
  21. Bret- if you want to have a serious discussion about salary vs. talent why not use an example of a player without such an amazing track record... i'll give one: it's April 30th, 2006. Nady and Diaz have been splitting time in Right Field and have both been tearing the cover off the ball to the tune of .325/.375/.550 in roughly equal playing time. Meanwhile, Cliff Floyd, much more highly paid, is hitting .240/.280/.380 in full-time duty and does not appear hurt. How soon do you pull the plug on Floyd here?
  22. if you havent voted yet please do so, i'd really like to move on to bench/dl sizes
  23. Bret Sabermetric wrote: It's always the manager's call who to put in the rotation and who in the bullpen. You're being remarkably evasive about answering my question. your question seems pretty absurd. there is not, never has been, and never will be, a manager willing to cut bait with a starter as accomplished as pedro based on a handful of starts. under the circumstances you are describing (he keeps gettng tired in the 3rd inning) i'd look to place him on the disabled list, because he's obviously suffering from something. but lets take a different set of circumstances- he's struggling period. he isn't getting tired, he isn't hurt, he's just flat out sucking, how much time does he get to straighten it out? for me, assuming the other 4 starters are pitching well and you have a guy ready to step in i'd give him about 15 starts because of his amazing track record. glavine gets about 10 starts in similiar circumstances, traschel 7-8, zambrano only a handful.
  24. the middle of April is way too soon, you'd really consider it after 3 or 4 bad starts?
