  1. Looper was tagged with seven losses and eight blown saves. Not all Looper's fault of course, but do the math. If those numbers had been halved, the Mets, who finished seven games behind Atlanta, would have made the playoffs last year. if you assume that 5 of those 8 blown saves WERE losses you suddenly have only 10 games that looper "lost." that takes us down to a margin of 3 games to tie the braves, so if Wagner had been here he would have had to blow 2 saves and lose 1 game that wasnt a blown save to be 7 games "better" than looper... how many closers have ever had a combined 3 or less losses + blown saves (not counting losses that were a result of a blown save), i'd guess 1, maybe 2, EVER.
  2. no sooner do i say that then the compromise option takes a commanding lead
  3. i'm just making sure people know what to expect if they try to slide by on yahoo's rankings.
  4. yeah, i'll admit i've bailed on the bench portion of a few drafts when i was running late, the queue works well there, you can set it in the draft room incase you lose your connection. yahoo's lists are sometimes really bad, if you plan on drating with a list make sure you put any long-term injured players on "do not take" list, yahoo might not have them there if they got hurt within a week before the draft. also, they'll go by 2005 stats more than anything else...if you expect guys like Brian Roberts to repeat their year thats your call, but just be wary of where yahoo ranks these 1-year wonders and 1-year busts, guys who were injured last year may be far lower than you think they should be as well.
  5. WILLPIE, you're in if you want it.
  6. judging by how this poll looks so far we will do a run off if nothing gets a majority
  7. we're doing a live draft at a time that as many people as possible can agree on... those who don't want to draft can still do pre-rankings, but for me and i'm sure several others the draft itself is a LARGE part of the fun in any league.
  8. The Mets gave both Molina and Hernandez "take it or leave it" offers to which they reportedly did not respond, theres no collussion there and it is in fact a good bargaining strategy for the Mets. the mets were impatient and dealt for loduca when they shouldnt have, but i still like dealing with medicore free agents the way they did.
  9. Cooby has already offered up her spot, Duan was next, if he doesn't want it you are in.
  10. we'll worry about the bench and DL later, for now lets just vote on the number of starting players... we can also worry about the seperation of starters/relievers later, for now we'll just vote on the number of pitchers. Option 1 (16 starters): C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, UT, 7xP this is the bare-minimum i'd have to think, i havent heard anyone advocate for less than this. Option 2 (23 starters): C, 1B, 3B, CI, 2B, SS, MI, 5xOF, 2xUT, 9xP this is the standard rottisserie layout, though i think with 20 teams we might want to change the 2nd catcher to a 2nd utility player. Option 3 (19 starters) : C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, 4xOF, 2xUT, 8xP i've never actually seen a league configured like this before, but if we wanted to avoid concerns about the rosters being too big for casual players and including marginal guys (option 2) and still avoid the shallowness of the talent used (option 1) this might be the way to go. VOTE FOR NOW ON THE ONE OF THESE THAT IS CLOSEST to what you want, we can switch a position or two later if need be but we cant have a dozen options up there at once if we hope to resolve this. once we know how many pitchers we are using we can vote on whether or not to have a SP/RP breakdown or not.
  11. the title speaks for itself, should we allow moves every day or once a week? once a week puts everyone on a more level playing field and doesn't give the "internet junkies" and college students with tons of time on the hamds an edge, but at the cost of more participation that some people will have in a daily league.
  12. i meant standard rotisserie settings not standard yahoo settings.
  13. i didnt get the sarcasm until i looked at your avatar. damn.
  14. that has not been my experience in past years, but we'll see. theres no way in heck that we are getting a time that works for 20 people even if yahoo would give us whatever time we wanted. the best we can do is take the closest weeend to the season that we can get.
  15. were you reading? i put the default roto settings in until we decide on things, you cant start a league without settings.
  16. Edgy DC wrote: Well, when people are largely even, you've got to go with something. Diaz in 331 career ABs ('04-'05) - .263/.328/.477 (OPS+ 109) he will be 25 all of this season. Nady in 775 career ABs ('03-'05 with a single at-bat in 2000) - .263./.320/.414 (OPS+ 98) he will be 28 all of this season. they aren't exactly night and day, but it seems clear to me that Diaz is the better hitter.
  17. 1) I've always thought that the idea of picking a starter based on spring training stats instead of the players' long existing statistical record is the epitome of idiocy in baseball...that being said i'll HOPE Diaz gets the job. 2) successful spring spring? sure, why not? the better question is whether we'll be screaming for Seo on May 1st. 3) Juan Padilla ('cause his wife is hot) 4) Julio, to "justify" the Benson trade. 5) Hernandez will be the main utility IF. 6) no way, too many guys around. 7) none, again too many guys around 8) Beltran if we're smart, matsui/loduca if we're not. 9) he will continue spouting crap about bullpen depth while ignoring rotation depth, he will change his tune when someone sucks/gets hurt in april. 10) i hope not
  18. Sting Rays makes more sense anyway, but i'd hate to see them constantly changing their name. Whatever they pick now should be something they can live with permanently, so choose wisely.
  19. whoever finishes 20th will be "relegated" and replaced in next year's league
  20. ah, true.
  21. i took saturday march 4th just now and all the saturdays and sundays after that are already gone! (they probably go to yahoo employees before registration even starts)
  22. bump.
  23. read carefully... the league name is "CranePool Forum League" the password is "edkranepool" the League ID# is 11835. please only sign up if you are one of the twenty guys on the list in the other thread, YOU MUST MAKE YOUR TEAM NAME YOUR BOARD NAME FOR NOW, we can change them later but right now for the purpose of making sure everyone who belongs in gets in we need to know who is who. i will delete any team that does not match up with a forum name because as far as i know its a stranger who is taking up the spot reserved for one of us. i've set the categories/rosters/everything else to their defaults except the 20 team maximum, we can change them later. i've set the draft time to Saturday, March 4th at 6:45 pm, it can be changed later but i needed to set a time to start the league.
  24. ="Elster88"] Edit: Like I said, I'm only cherry-picking this year because it's easiest for my small mind, but I'm curious of the actual ratio throughout baseball. my unscientific (IE just by memory) survey of the 128 starting position players in the NL tells me that 58 of those players are on the team for which they first made a major league appearence... yeah i could be wrong on a few, wrong about who has the starting job, and i'm not taking into account which system they came through only where i remember them playing in mlb as a rookie but its still a starting point.
