  1. no max, no min it seems, might as well leave this open since theres no need for a second poll if the results here stay this way. the (final) poll is coming on bench and DL sizes.
  2. ] chris russo is an idiot. yes, but what does that have to do with this thread? i didnt see any mention of russo... ]Frankly, I think they should find a way to get Giambi out of the picture as well, but that's clearly not going to happen and for some reason, people no longer care that he used steroids. Giambi isn't nearing any HR records, if he were we'd be outraged, as it is we don't care as much.
  3. MFS62 wrote: The only Mets regulars playing are V. Diaz and A. Hernandez.(From E. Coleman earlier in the day) He was moaning about the 2+ hour bus ride. Neither of them is exactly a starter anyway... I'm more interested in the Cleveland lineup, in knowing who exactly Iriki has been one-hitting.
  4. its now 7-1 Mets, i should point out that this is listed as a split squad for them but not for us, who knows the quality of the hitters they sent here as compared to their other game.
  5. what the HOF/MLB ultimately does about induction/stats/astericks is another matter but i don't think MLB will do anything suspension-wise unless someone fails a test now, the testing procedure is in place and it seems to be the only way to earn yourself a drug suspension, for better or worse.
  6. i'd rather see Aaron keep the record for many reasons: Steroids and the adversity Aaron faced being the big two. i dislike Bonds as i'm sure you all know, but i'd be almost as upset if McGwire or Sosa (guys i liked) were about to break the record.
  7. ]Assuming this book is filled with as many details as implied, what it's going to do is make it real tough for any remaining Barry-apologists out there to claim that it was really just a case a hard work and vitamins, or that there's no proof so the rest of us should all keep quiet. i believe their (the apologists) current excuse is "it wasn't illegal in baseball," nevermind that it was illegal in the united states. there is no rule in the book against stabbing the 1bman with a knife to steal second either but i'm reasonaby sure you can't do it.
  8. $ hey, look, I found a motive!
  9. Elster88 wrote: A big topic of discussion today by at least one radio host (not sure who on ESPN) is that he can't get past the fact that someone abused animals and women. He also feels there is no statue of limitations on how long you have to wait after someone dies before bashing them. I'm just reporting, not taking a stance myself. Its hard to get past the wife-beating thing, I'd probably bash him more about it if i were old enough to clearly remember the details from back then, which i'm not. as far as a SOL on bashing the dead i think it all depends what you are saying and why. I guess what i'm saying is that i don't think you should bring up minor character faults (gambling, drugs, steroids) the day after a guy passes away, but things like beating your wife and killing people (Ray Lewis anyone?) are far more serious and shouldn't be ignored just because the guy is dead.
  10. ] Berra's longer and more accomplished career providing more than enough fodder to fill his plaque I think that is completely the distinction. Berra is someone who belonged in the Hall beyond a shadow of a doubt and his plaque can easily be filled with his accomplishments, the same cannot be said of Puckett.
  11. I thought the use of the F-word on this board was restricted to IGTs of games the mets lose.
  12. RIP. not sure if this thread is an "appropriate" place for a HOF discussion but i'd like to revisit that elsewhere if anyone cares...
  13. i cringe when i see a Met dive in an exhibition game...i know its a fine balance between maintaining your aggressiveness and playing not to get hurt.
  14. i've set the bench to six and the dl to one on the site incase i forget to do anything before we draft (at which time i won't be able to change anything.) this topic is still open to discussion though. also it looks like the last 2 teams never signed up so thats an additional 40 or so players that won't be drafted.
  15. When our staff ERA is higher than last year will Bret blame LoDuca along with Minaya, or does he only get the credit from Mr. Piazza-hater if the Mets pitchers do better?
  16. ]Since the article appeared in a New York paper and it looks like the Knicks will get the #1 draft pick That Kazmir kid is going to be great for the Mets this year... what? they traded him to Tampa?
  17. Bret Sabermetric wrote: Piazza's role model was more like a lobotomized green vegetable than Grote on greenies. He was very supportive, let the pitchers throw whatever they wanted to, never gave them grief (which explains why they all said "Mike's a fabulous catcher." It's a great style to work with, from a pitcher's immediate perspective, but I think he didn't always get their best efforts out of them.) i know you hate piazza but from where are you getting the idea that his defensive game lacked anything besides a strong throwing arm? can you show these pitchers who (you admit) liked him pitched better without him around?
  18. Sandy Koufax, Mel Rojas

  20. the mets are doing the wRIGHT thing for the team's budget, the players get huge salaries out of you during and after arbitration and the good ones get insane signing bonuses as well, the team should take advantage while it can because you know the player will.
  21. Elster88 wrote: ="Nymr83"]i don't think theres ever an excuse for walking 4 people. is there a boxscore somewhere that you're seeing 4 walks? all i see are game summaries. I don't care if it's the first live game he's pitched in in 6 months, he should have pinpoint accuracy and not walk any batters. You guys are being ridiculous. i dont give a shit about ST stats, i only said that in response to whoever posted that he shouldnt walk people with a big lead.

  23. Pujols homered to make it 9-7, bottom of the 4th.

  25. abogdan wrote: Which doesn't mean that general consensus is generally the best. There's been some recent work on it that the Baseball Musings algorithm is based on here and here, which doesn't come to the same conclusions as that general consensus. which is good, arguing over which study is best is infinetaly preferable to arguing over which guy the clown manager (NOT singling out Randolph or anyone else here) thinks best fits some coneventional wisdom stereotype for a lineup spot.
