  1. no way, shallow leagues are B-O-R-I-N-G.
  2. pretty decent english... anyone know how we can help him out?
  3. I don't think Zimmerman is anywhere near the Wright/Marte category, but he's no Burroughs either... Koskie or Randa might be a good comparison. The next big 3Bman should be the Rockies' Ian Stewart.
  4. Someone can take my spot, I totally forgot to do it last year and I'm likely to forget again.
  5. metirish wrote: I am in four leagues, the one I am in for money I just traded Jason Schmidt, Aaron Rowen and Juan Peirre for Seo, Delgado and Jose Guillen. i'll assume this is a 10 or 12 team NL-only since all 6 players you mentioned are national leaguers? I hope you have another source of speed.
  6. who the heck did this? you've just put a curse on the entire season and i hold you responsible for all losses!
  7. my thoughts exactly
  8. ...and i'll do a little of both to start us off, my 10 team NL-only auction went pretty, i'm sure you'll all hear about it (or skim over it) later in the year, but first my 12-team NL-only auction... i came into the draft with a bad set of keepers (Turnbow for $1 on a $260 budget and nobody else worth mentioning) and a partner who wouldnt let me bid on the guys i wanted, i ended up with this monstrosity: C: Estrada, Ardoin CI: Delgado, Bell, Sanchez MI: Greene, Matsui (for $1), Aurilia OF: P.Wilson, Edmonds, Pierre (at a whopping $44, i always punt steals, well not htis time), McLouth, Sledge UT: Piedra P: Turnbow, Weathers, W.Williams, Cain, Borowski, Schmidt, C.Young, Lidle, Claussen Minors (the only area i'm happy with): Andy LaRoche, Carlos Quentin, and Carlos Gonzalez This team is destined for the bottom of the standings.
  9. i've said it before but i agree with 62, take the subway during rush hour you'll see a dozen better looking women every day.
  10. Jose Reyes was the first Met younger than me, yeah you should all feel old. edit- based on Yancy's list Reyes became the first Met younger than me on 6/10/03, but there hasn't been another one since (I'm less than a month older than David Wright.)
  11. perhaps Anna seduced David Wright and Benson was traded away to protect the face of the franchise?
  12. yeah thats a great trade if we still had Seo but as it is i'm unsure i'd do it, i'd probably have to say yes.
  13. ]Wright -- Not unless he dances on the Shea Stadium mound and performs a ritual killing of Mr. Met while wearing a Jeter jersey leave out the Jeter jersey and i don't even think anyone woul boo him. i think reyes is on a much longer leash than you think because the majority of those who go to games aren't statheads and dont care if he gets on base... if he goes 1-5 with a steal they'll go home saying he had a good game. i think wagner is on a longer leash too, he comes in here with a good reputation and that'll buy him more than just a few blown saves. his party will last until he blows one in september against the braves or blows 2 in a row anywhere. julio might have had the shortest leash ever if not for matsui. the first popout or bobbled grounder will get him a chorus of "boooooooooooo"
  14. I was pissed off at the Seo trade to "make way for Heilman" and I'm even more pissed off now that i know that the guy we were really making way for is Brian Bannister. They traded Jae Seo to hand his spot to Brian Bannister. no, i'm not gonna get over this any time soon.
  15. My point about Bannister wasn't really about how deserving he is of another chance if this one fails but of the likelihood of his getting one, which i deem to be poor because a 25 year old who has done well in the minors based on anything other than having "great stuff" isn't in great shape in terms of the way teams perceive him. The Mets could fall off his bandwagon as quickly as they did Heilman's in 2004 or Tyler Yates' last year.
  16. KC wrote: Right, Kaz is the poster child for put up or go home - I forgot about him, and giving him a season would be way too generous (I realize you probably don't mean season literally). I also echo the Beltran sentiments above. Well, i meant that he has this season, whether with the Mets or after having been traded for a bucket of balls, to avoid a trip home over the offseason.
  17. Reyes isn't at that Pu/Su place yet, he's got time to mature and the Mets still have another year of paying him jackshit to see if he can do it. Zambrano, on the other hand, is definetaly at that place. At 30 years old if he can't get it done now he never will. Bannister is another guy in that category. He's 25 and was never really too highly thought of, if he doesnt impress here and now he probably won't be given another shot. Unless Kaz Matsui wants to go back to Japan he'd better show something this season as well. Xavier Nady is a utility guy that Omar fell in love with, at his age its time to finally hit well or stop being thought of as a semi-regular.
  18. I gave up Jeremy Hermida and Cliff Polite for Mike Mussina and Jay Payton. I'd like to take the opportunity to ask people NOT to vote against any trades unless they are really stupid, theres no money involved here and the "trade police," while necessary in a league with prize money, ruin the fun.
  19. I'll just cut this cobversation off right now... Yahoo sets the position requirements, they sometime do so arbitrarily, and you can't change them. This was one of the reasons that my money league switched away from Yahoo. Don't get me wrong they're fine for a friendly league but don't use them if you have a pay league that can afford the ~$100 fee of most better sites.
  20. i'll probably make a spreadsheet to track predictions and show who is doing well every moth of so, unless the guy who started the thread wants to do it?
  21. I've been waiting patiently, so I figured I'd fire one up since we're FIVE!!!! days away from the opener. 1) Give the Met who will have the most of each category, names but no numbers Batting categories Games David Wright Hits Carlos Beltran Doubles David Wright Triples Jose Reyes Home runs Carlos Delgado RBI David Wright Stolen Bases Jose Reyes Caught stealing Jose Reyes Runs scored Carlos Beltran Batting average (high) David Wright On base percentage (high) David Wright Strikeouts (high) Carlos Delgado Walks David Wright Pitching categories Wins Pedro Martinez Losses Steve Traschel Strikeouts Pedro Martinez Walks Victor Zambrano ERA (low) Billy Wagner ERA (high) Jorge Julio ERA (low by a starter) Pedro Martinez ERA (high by a starter) Victor Zambrano Saves Billy Wagner BAA (low) Billy Wagner BAA (high) Victor Zambrano Games started Tom Glavine Games pitched Duaner Sanchez 2) Give the number for the player and category specified Cliff Floyd - games 139 Cliff Floyd - batting average .268 David Wright - runs scored 94 David Wright - RBI 123 Carlos Beltran - home runs 24 Carlos Beltran - stolen bases 20 Jose Reyes - errors 21 Jose Reyes - on base percentage .313 Carlos Delgado - batting average .311 Carlos Delgado - RBI 115 Kaz Matsui - games 55 (as a Met) Kaz Matsui - runs scored 28 Anderson Hernandez - games 120 Anderson Hernandez - batting average .270 Anderson Hernandez - fielding percentage .989 Paul Lo Duca - on base percentage .325 Xavier Nady - RBI 43 Victor Diaz - games 125 Pedro Martinez - strikeouts 202 Tom Glavine - wins 15 Steve Trachsel - losses 12 Steve Trachsel - walks 72 Victor Zambrano - ERA 4.65 Victor Zambrano - strikeouts 129 Brian Bannister - games started 7 Aaron Heilman - games started 13 Billy Wagner - saves 44 Billy Wagner - ERA 2.80 Jorge Julio - ERA 7.74 3)Team Categories Total runs scored 845 Total runs against 760 Team ERA 4.05 Team batting average .266 Record 87-75 NL East Finish (1st, 2nd, etc.) 2nd Games behind NL East Winner 4 Playoffs (Division winner, Wildcard winner, no playoffs) wildcard tie, lose one game playoff with zambrano on the mound (pedro and glavine were needed to get us in, traschel is hurt, willie picks zambrano over heilman) Playoff finish - (Win WS, Lose WS, Lose NLCS, Lose NLDS, no playoffs) no playoffs since the wildcard game is technically regular season 4)Tie-breakers 1st tie breaker - Total number of rainouts 3 2nd tie breaker - Time of longest game of the year 4:23
  22. i hear they're predicting an epidemic of 24-hour flu for April 3rd, strangely they are not predicting any increase in hospital visits...
  23. i'm sure he can afford a paternity test.
  24. i dont think its slimy at all, johnson should be called out on his bad parenting.
  25. theres nothing uncommon about getting "retroactively petty" in cases like this. i usually have sympathy for the guy when the court awards custody to the woman and then adds insult to injury by making him pay more than his fair share for stuff. i have no sympathy for an assclown like johnson who wants nothing to do with his kid and is rich enough that these requests are not big financial burden on him.
