  1. idk. with the exception of the asian pool all the games were played in Puerto Rico, Florida, and Arizona right?
  2. 12-2 in 7. Mercy rule.
  3. its baseball and its on TV which is good enough for now...
  4. its 7-1 in the 5th though this wasn't really such bad baseball.
  5. well, the 7 teams that i think most people would have picked to advance have done so along with mexico (who i thought were 50/50 with canada to be the 2nd team out of that pool.) any baseball is good baseball at this point...
  6. ugliest uniforms in the world for cuba, especially those red pants. just wanted to let anyone who cares know that its on channel 9.

  8. i read it in a Post article yesterday by chance, i didnt check a tv schedule. these anouncers are the worst i've ever heard btw.
  9. KC wrote: Where are people watching these games? They're not on tv (which is kinda dumb). this game is on UPN 9 in the NY Area.
  10. ]Former Met farmhand Robert Eenhoorn Finkle is Einhorn! Einhorn is Finkle!
  11. 16-0, the 5 inning part of the mercy rule isn't very merciful and this game isn't very enjoyable.
  12. In any vote not conducted by yankee fans Jeter is not a Hall of Famer YET, although he is very likely to be one by the time he is done. But his career stats in a blind study of baseball fans with the name John Doe next to them and see if he'd get in, i doubt it.

  14. ah, the "joys" of 4 team pools everyone loses out when you have an 0-3 team... the better way is a double-elimination round robin as follows: Game 1: Team A vs Team B Game 2: Team C vs Team D Game 3: Loser of game 1 vs Loser of game 2 (loser is 0-2 and eliminated) Game 4: Winner of game 1 vs. Winner of game 2 (winner is 2-0) Game 5: Winner of Game 3 vs Loser of Game 4 (loser is 1-2: eliminated) Game 6: Winner of Game 4 (2-0) vs. Winner of Game 5 (2-1) Game 7 (necessary only if the 2-0 team loses) compared to the current method: Advantages: nobody goes home without 2 losses, no need for any tiebreakers Disadvantages: a team could potentially play 5 games (compared to 3 now, this isn't a disadvantage in my mind but it is to the organizers), a team could go home after 2 games (but they'd be 0-2 so who cares?) on edit: this would take 4-5 days since games 1&2 and 3&4 could be played on the same day any comments?
  15. Yes but there is a huge huge difference between being a citizen (no matter how easy a given country allows you to become one) and being "eligible" to become a citizen... I once read that under Israel's "law of return" something like 1/10th of the American population would be eligible for citizenship (though in most cases because of their blood relation or marriage to someone who is themself only part-jewish) maybe Israel should determine who some of these people are and field their own team of ringers next time around, they'll have the distinction of having never set foot in the country they are playing for... something I'd bet a few players on the Italian or South African teams are also "guilty" of. If it were up to me (yeah its not, they'd rather leave these decisions in the hands of morons) I'd say "citizens only."

You'll have to become a citizen I think. Not according the BS rules in which you must have been born there or even had a parent born there, there are apparently other ways in as well... essentially the idea is that there arent 16 strong baseball countries in the world so they needed to make a few up with weird eligibility rules.
  17. Russo is indeed fairly stupid, I remember once him and the Francessa talking about Delgado being from Puerto Rico and they didn't seem to know jack shit about Puerto Rico thinking it a foreign country along the lines of Cuba or the Dominican Republic, i felt like calling up and giving them a history lesson but whats the point?
  18. traitor! if you like cuba so much we have a place there for those who are anti-american! [sc=100 incase anyone didnt realize it] I find the whole idea foolish because this isn't soccer or basketball, 1 game in baseball is simply meaningless and until each game becomes a 5 game series its hard to take much interest in the outcome of the tournament, but that would clearly requiring using amateurs.
  19. i'd actually like to see $-Rod (or Gay-Rod if you prefer) get hurt mainly because it would be funny to watch the explosion from Mt. Steinbrenner if it happened.
  20. I have already taken the position that a long-term injury to Beltran = Milledge Time, others have disagreed with me, but since none of us want Beltran to get hurt i hope we never see who is right. I don't think that an injury to Floyd or Nady/Diaz necessarily (or even likely) gets Milledge up here because we have other guys to play the position but i still maintain that with Cameron gone Milledge is by far the 2nd best Centerfielder in the entire organization right now and its not even close (your other choices being an out of position Nady and a bunch of no-hit glove men like Tike Redman and Endy Chavez.)
  21. ok those explanations make some sense, you can just root for the yankee players to not do anything though... like when you root for the NL to win the all-star game but hope Chipper strikes out twice and Smoltz gets rocked
  22. I can't root for a bunch of yankees when the team doesnt even have a Met player on it, but i'm curious why anyone would actually be happy that our country's team lost?
  23. When Bonds recovers from life-threatening cancer to dominate his sport I'll give him the same respect Lance gets...
  24. i'm not even sure from this thread what options to put in the poll. Of those who have commented, only one guy seems to want a 5 man bench as opposed to 6. (6 also makes more sense, in my mind, as it allows you a backup at each of the 6 "positions" at which players are likely to be eligible: C, CI, MI, OF, SP, RP) if we start from the premise of a six man bench and vote only on 0, 1, or 2 DL spots i think this all becomes alot more manageable... so i'm putting up a poll on DL slots (0, 1, or 2) make your votes based on the assumption of a 6-man bench but realize that the bench size may come up for a vote if there are more than one or two objections to it.
