  1. I disagree with the proposirion that eating a modest salary (less than $10 million for one year, 8 over 2, 6 over 3, etc) would "paralyze" a team like the Mets/Dodgers/Yankeea/RedSox/Cubs/WhiteSox/Orioles/Rangers/etc. I'd say about half the teams in the majors could eat such a salary without it having a big effect on their ability to afford players, and some more teams could do it with only a modest effect. I'd say that only 3 or 4 teams would be close to "paralyzed" by it (the Marlins, Pirates, and D-Rays come to mind.)
  2. The Seo was dumb just on principle, you don't trade a starter for a middle-reliever. The Benson deal wasn't too bad on its own because of who we still had but together with the Seo trade it was baffling. I like Pena better than i like Nady and about the same as Diaz. I'd have given Benson or Seo fopr him if we hadnt traded the other one and had kept Cameron.
  3. otoh i'd have to say theres no excuse for giving the batter a hittable pitch on an 0-2 count because you have 3 more pitches to work with after that. the 1-2 pitch should be near the zone (an attempt to cut a corner might be a good idea here) the 2-2 pitch should be "normal."
  4. nice move for Boston and bad news for anyone who had Pena cheap in an Nl-only keeper league from last year.
  5. ]Christian Guzman has a SLAP tear in his shoulder. He and the team are weighing surgery, but considering the way his career is going, either way is going to be real tough for him. (In related news, I have no idea what a SLAP tear is.) I don't know what it is either but it can only help his batting average.

If some of you would pull your god damn lips off the kool-aid baba nipple for five seconds you'd wake up and see what's really going down right under your collective noses. Bret, i'm pretty sure logging into other peoples' accounts should be a bannable offense!
  7. ="KC"]We have to re-rank every Mets season, there's no way Al Leiter was the 12th best Met player ever. Seaver, Koosman, Gooden, Strawberry, Piazza, Hernandez, Carter, Kranepool, Agee...that all the guys who are to me clearly better off the top of my head. I'm sure there are a couple i'm missing and a good 5-10 more who are arguable but i don't think 12th is wildly off
  8. Thanks for the thread-hijack Bret.
  9. thats it, just set the rankings.
  10. "Team Spy" is right, you know he's there to remind potentiak defectors what will quietly be done to their families...
  11. Milledge won't win a ROY for the same reason Wright didn't, the Mets will not bring him up to start a year

  13. correct. in a rotisserie or points based system you don't need an even number.
  14. I think the double-elimination is a must. I wouldn't cut teams out though and i'd even look into adding a "qualifying" tournament the previous november for newcomers plus those who didnt make it out of the 1st round in the previous tournament.
  15. Johnny Dickshot wrote: By 2009, Jason Bay will still be a Canadian. whoops. i suppose he could become a citizen, but yeah i wasnt thinking
  16. by the time the next one rolls around Chipper won't be asked to play, Clemens won't be pitching at all, and Damon won't be able to reach 2B from shallow CF with his throws. 2009 TEAM: C: Joe Mauer 1B: Derrek Lee 2B: Justin Upton 3B: David Wright SS: Derek Jeter LF: Jason Bay CF/RF: Brian Anderson/Lastings Milledge SP: Roy Oswalt, Ben Sheets, Mike Pelfrey
  17. ]I don't understand. If Mexico hadn't scored a run, how could they have advanced? Were they doomed from the start? i believe that because of the ERA tie-breaker they have needed to add 12 or 13 scoreless innings to their total (and then win of course) so yes they were technically alive but in a very lame sort of way...if i were the manager i'd have ordered my hitters to stand in the box facing the stands and do allkinds of other dumb shit to make a point.
  18. ScarletKnight41 wrote: Double Play! Mexico Wins! No, Mexico "lost" when they SCORED, i still think this is very lame.
  19. Edgy DC wrote: No, it's not! to anyone who believes that he is not the best 2B in the organization and that he is unfairly being slotted ahead of better players an injury to him is good news.
  20. I would guess that Tom Glavine wanted to be a hockey player...who wanted to be a pastor??
  21. Edgy DC wrote: Matsui --- strained the MCL, and is listed as day-to-day. MRI to come tomorrow. The guys in the booth sound pessimistic. good news!
  22. Willets Point wrote: Mexico eliminates themselves by scoring a run. thats why this tournament is lame. i've enjoyed the quality of the play but the format is BULLSHIT double-elimination is a million times better than round-robin with lame tie-breakers.
  23. What about "Thanks, Cablevision"? We don't know who is being unreasonable.
  24. yeah, if he did i'd have picked him as well, he's going to be very good.
  25. i'll leave the mistake so as not to kill the joke but for the record i'm picking CHW to beat the Yankees.
