  2. To me its gotta be Nady because he's never shown the ability to hit like this before. With Beltran, Glavine, Valentin, etc. you're getting something you knew they could at least possibly if not likely do because they've done it before. i'm not at all suprised with the way Soler is pitching. sanchez has been better than expected but what has he pitched? 30 innings? add a couple of homers in there and he'd look bad (i'm not knocking him, just saying its a small sample size) Chavez is close but i feel Nady has done more. LoDuca ius not having a "great" year despite leading the catchers in the all-star balloting You were right in leaving Bannister off, his starts worked out well but he got very very lucky in almost all of them and i've got to say i'm ok with never seeing him again.

Edgy DC wrote: As recently as 2003, the Mets had a single All-Star, and he was perhaps the least popular player on the team. it seems to me that the closer is often the representative from a shitty team, i guess because they look at saves and say "oh he must be ok" while not realizing that any team that wins 60+ games usually generates 40+ save opportunities
  4. i thought metirish was serious and i was about to go off on an anti-zito rant...

  6. i think Dennis Martinez is it. i know Maddux has never topped 20 but he reached it.
  7. i was ok with heilman pitching, he's been shaky for a few weeks now and getting him some work in a spot where he could just pitch without worrying about the scoreboard might have been a good idea. i'd being lying if i said i felt uncomfortable bringing him into a 1-run game before today, but now i feel slightly more comfortable.
  8. i dont see it with Howe but with Ray Charles and Rick Down its definetaly the chin
  9. ]the rule is if the player doesn't attempt to move that the umpire has discretionary powers to call it a simple ball. If he's in the strike zone it can be called a strike ... I don't think I've ever seen either rule enforced though. i don't think its supposed to be "optional" if the guy is over the plate. if the ball is in the zone its a strike no matter what.
  10. Elster, why do sanchez and heilman get points for pitching in a five run game while bradford doesnt for getting two guys out with the tying run on second base?
  11. Wright 5 Castro 1.25 Marrero .75 Reyes .5 Beltran .5 Franco 1 Bradford .5 Glavine .5
  12. Mora throws it away! 1st and 3rd for david wright!
  13. Marrero with a catch that screams "give me schaefer points"
  14. KABOOM!!!!! WALKS HIT BY PITCHES KILL!
  15. i'm sure they can take comfort in their very large paychecks. if they want a job where nobody will criticize their poor job performance i hear that McDonalds is hiring.
  16. ]One day after general manager Omar Minaya said assigning Cliff Floyd to the disabled list wasn't likely ... the club disabled him. Sometimes I feel like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing in this organization. 11 days that we could have had another guy up here. now sure we won plenty of games but maybe we'd have brought up a reliever to eat some blowout innings and save the guys who matter? i remember last year Beltran was in this same limbo for a week, then they gave him 1 AB and DL'd him thus starting his "clock" on the day of the 1 AB, whoops.
  17. metsmarathon wrote: there were plenty of mets fans on that road trip, they had all paid a similar expense, some even travelled, and none of them booed. they didn't have a reason to boo
  18. but the "boo birds" weren't on that road trip. the "boo birds" paid $15 for parking, $30 for their ticket, $20 for food (and likely another $30 for beer) TODAY, so they're gonna boo when they see a met pitcher get lit up like a christmas tree.
  19. Martinez 1 Feliciano 1 Bradford .5 Milledge 2 Delgado 1.5 Reyes 1 LoDuca .25
  20. ]No, no, I understand the theory. But if your goal is to keep the Mets from scoring runs, why wouldn't you play the same defense you usually play to keep them from scoring runs? because your normal defense isn't set up to prevent the mets from scoring one run, it is setup to minimize the risk of a big inning. when you bring the infield in, bring the outfielders in, or back the outfielders up from "normal" depth you are theoretically increasing the chances of a big inning while decreasing the chances of one run scoring again, i have no idea if it actually works out that way, but thats the idea
  21. my team sucks too. the guys who died on my birthday include Tug McGraw and Rogers Hornsby
  22. Elster88 wrote: No doubles defense keeps the right fielder from catching that foul ball. I never really understood no doubles defense. In some cases it doesn't seem to work to me. But I may be missing something. if franco doubles the mets are a hit away from tying it, if franco is held to a single they are likely two hits away from tying it, thus the orioles are willing to increase his chance of a hit to lessen the chance of a double... i'm not sure if it works or not because there has probably never been a study of batting average and percentage of hits for extra bases against a "no doubles defense" to see if it is mathematically sound, but thats the theory behind it at least.
  23. good job milledge.
  24. and i'll assure that numerous times it has. how many met home games do you attend per year edgy? i'm at a good dozen minimum and i can assure you that any relief pitcher who gives up 4 runs in an inning will hear a chorus of boos.
