  3. the lack of knowledge in the internet age startles me sometimes.
  4. yeah, really stupid. i wouldnt care if they gave a bunch of relievers spring training invites but 3 year deals to guys like this doesnt look good
  5. does this end when spring training starts or when the season starts? in other words when would Clemens have to still be unsigned for the 3 of us who said that to get credit for it?
  6. personally i was a happy to see any record held by a yankee fall.
  7. ]He's a former starter...hmmmm end that thought now, he was TERRIBLE as a starter and hasn't been one in 2 or 3 years. If the Mets want to convert a reliever to start they should talk to Aaron Heilman instead of giving 3 years to Schoenweiss.
  8. aliens are friendly.
  9. thats lame, if we were going to give 3 years to a reliever we should have brought Bradford back.
  10. what makes you think he wants one? If Gil Meche can get 5 years and $55 million, Steve Traschel can get a major-league contract without stooping to accepting a minor-league deal from the Mets.
  11. yeah, sounds good to me.
  12. I don't think Young compares well to any of those guys. But to talk more about you're real point, I agree that the hall was new then and basing your vote now on what went on then is pretty foolish. As far as I'm concerned you should either vote for a guy or you shouldn't. The only reason for multiple years of eligibility is to prevent a guy from getting the shaft if he's on the ballot the same year as 3 or 4 "automatic" guys or to allow people more time to study him when they see he got 50% (for example) of the vote, this especially matters since I'm sure some of the voters are "old school" AL/NL guys who really don't know enough about players in the other league.
  13. ah, hearsay.
  14. i think Canseco alienated everyone with his book.
  15. ]Ripken was picked by 537 voters and appeared on 98.53 percent of ballots to finish with the third-highest percentage behind Tom Seaver (98.84) and Nolan Ryan (98.79). i guess you're either in or you're out, but i have to wonder how Ripken "did better" than guys like Mike Schmidt, Willie Mays, etc. Gwynn and Ripken were the only ones who got in, though Gossage got 71% of the vote. Rice (64%), Dawson (57%), and Blyleven (46%) were the next 3.
  16. ]I heard Boras was pissed the Mets got Beltran on the cheap compared to this years circus and wanted an eigth year for Zito at which point Omar said he had a plane to catch. Good for Omar.. where did you hear that? i may hate boras but i'd hate to think he'd fuck a client over because a past client didn't get what boras wanted him to.
  17. ]A late-season injury to one of their biggest free-agent signings, Pedro Martinez, undermined New York in October. No, it didn't. While an injury to Pedro would have been a good bet to hurt the Mets in October, luck was on our side and we received good pitching performances from unlikely sources. The only bad performance was turned in by Traschel, and if Pedro were healthy it would have been Perez, not Traschel, taking a seat for him.
  18. my response was better and is 75% less likely to result in a trip to the redlight forum.

  20. i'll take Weaver but not a 4 year commitment.
  21. ]glavine hasn't been a no.1 since 94. orlando was never a no.1 either was zito. One can plausibly argue that el duque was the best pitcher on the '99 Yankees. Zito was the best pitcher on the A's in 2002 and maybe 2005,
  22. I don't think there is any reason to go into panic-mode about the 2007 New York Mets. Omar didn't have a good offseason but I don't think he had a bad one either.
  23. triple post! i wasn't the one who originally suggested they NEEDED backing up, i was only repeating what was said and offering my opinion that our reserve outfielders are just fine.
  24. Vic Sage wrote: 3) We have an expensive over-the-hill RFer, and none of our young OFers (including milledge) have shown themselves ready to step up and fill that slot. - Omar's solution: do nothing. i think that between Milledge and Johnson we have among the best 4th and 5th outfielders in the league, Omar did ok backing up the fragile old men.
  25. he WAS terrible in 2006. the Yankees got back a decent reliever, but more importantly they removed a huge and unnecessary salary from their team, that makes it a good trade by itself
