  1. whoever was on wfan around 1130 today (it was a guy and a girl filling in for evan and joe, who in turn filled in for mike and chris) said that arod wont participate in the HR derby because if he does and doesnt come out of the allstar break on fire he'll be eaten alive by the new york media calling him selfish for ruining his swing, etc, etc.
  2. those same 2 shirts i mention above were allowed into Shea.
  3. Arod's wife should have been given the boot. I've been to Yankee Stadium and I can assure you that anyone else wouldn't have been allowed in wearing that shirt. My friend was forced to turn a shirt that said "Baltimore Blows" inside-out to gain admission, the same happened to someone who was wearing a shirt with a McDonalds-like yellow "M" that said "Marijuana, over one million stoned".
  4. i still like Johnson and would make that trade every time.
  5. i think the 1 per team rule needs to be scrapped. there are 10 guys more deserving than Dmitri Young (by the way, if i were the Nats i'd be looking very hard at sending him to an AL-team for a prospect or two.)
  6. Sele got into 4 games in all of June and hasn't pitched in 11 or 12 days.
  7. radio guys say Castro just kissed Gotay on the "kiss cam" thing... LOL i'm off to a wedding, get your rally caps on!

1 walk and 2 sac flies according to baseball-reference. ouch.
  9. Sosa was DL'd, he should only miss friday because the Mets don't need a 5th starter again thanks to the all-star break until july 16th.
  10. theres also Brian Lawrence... if its a one-time thing i don't think they'd want to callup and disrupt humber to send him right back down... though if sosa or perez looks serious he could get the call.
  11. Phillies are 6 losses from becoming the first sports franchise to ever lose 10,000 games. nice. Gomez just got hit by a pitch and Jose Mesa is back on the mound for philly, wow i thought that guy was retired.
  12. Sosa hurt beating out a double-play on a bunt attempt.
  13. martin wrote: i missed the start of the game, what did reyes do to his shoulder? he tried bunting and pulling it back, it looked to me like the ball hit the bat into the shoulder, he didnt say anything til after the next pitch (a foul ball i think) and then he was talking the trainer and willie for a few minutes and again after he singled.
  14. nice sliding catch by Victorino
  15. i would have liked to getanother run with 1st and 3rd 1 out, but this is a good start.
  16. welcome the majors... don't unpack your bags just yet.
  17. that was stoopid too.
  18. they can give it to Hoffman over Bonds because he's set his record while Bonds isn't there (yet.) Has Hoffman said anything about this being his final season? "definite" retirement plans would help justify it too.
  19. trying to steal 3B is generally stupid with 0 or 2 outs, i havent seen the situation that Milledge faced though. He JUST got off the DL, I'd think he won't be in Flushing before the all-star break.
  20. Willets Point wrote: Pedro Astacio 34 homers allowed? yeah.
  21. Martinez is a hall of famer, but the fact that he only played half the game does make it close to me. Thomas is just automatic. he is 11th on the career OPS list.
  22. we seem to have across the board agreement in the NL at C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, and on Holliday in the outfield (with near unanimity on Griffey, only 1 person didn't select him) But we've got no agreement on that 3rd outfielder- Byrnes, Soriano, Dunn, Rowand, Lee each got a vote (with Byrnes getting a 2nd one from the one guy against Griffey) anyone care to argue their guy? the numbers through the end of play yesterday: (Name, games/PA, BA/OBP/SLG, HR/RBI/R, SB/CS, OPS+) Byrnes 78/342 .312/.363/.516 13/43/48 14/5 124 Dunn 75/310 .271/.361/.569 21/50/50 7/2 135 Lee 77/335 .291/.340/.510 14/62/42 4/4 121 Rowand 76/321 .313/.392/.482 10/39/47 4/1 129 Soriano 70/325 .309/.357/.558 15/30/51 10/3 135
