  1. steve, perhaps you can have this discussion with your cousin by email instead of through the board he doesnt read.
  2. its a great story that a a guy used steroids to succeed? Ankiel is not a great story even if you think so.
  3. i can never remember who the joe morgan-ish defender of stupidity and ignorance towards numbers is around here, and thus dont know who is joking.

  5. i didn't say move him. i said let him hit as well as pitch back then. and yeah he's a user, which is why contrary to what cooby said he IS NOT a great story
  6. Centerfield wrote: There he goes again, trying to downplay the value of DEFENSE and BALANCE. what the heck is "balance"? a quest for across-the-board mediocrity? and what makes you think "balance" will win championships anyway? if you want to talk about defense, fine, but i don't think "balance" means anything, if a guy helps you out enough with his glove to overcome mediocre hitting (lets say omar vizquel or ozzie smith in their primes) then thats fine, but you don't look to add a defensive-oriented player just because you don't have one.

  8. Ankiel now has 526 career ABs (mostly in the last 2 years) and has hit .259/.320/.487 for a 108 OPS+. Those numbers aren't great, but you wondr if he should have been playing the outfield on the days he wasn't poitching all along.
  9. as the proud owner of Migual Montero in a fantasy league i'm happy to see Snyder hit the DL, but i wouldn't wish THAT injury on anyone not named bin-laden.
  10. Edgy and firecracker basically said it all for me. its not that i think V is going to be some great player, its just that he's tearing up the minors and that deserves a shot when the guys we have arent gettting it done. my "prediction" is that they won't give him that shot. if they do, i think he'll be decent but nothing memorable for a few months, but still an improvement over what anderson and chavez have been giving so far
  11. AG/DC wrote: ="Nymr83"]it really wouldnt hurt to just give the guy a shot at this point, at least until alou gets back, whenever that is. Pascucci or Martinez? Pascucci. Martinez is the youngest player at his level and injured alot, dont rush him.
  12. yeah, this gets filed as a matter of course in any termination, but that should really stop when the termination was for a physical assault.

  14. the PA's lawyers should be disciplined for even filing a grievance that absurd.
  15. Vargas, by the way, has cleared waivers according to CBSsportsline
  16. ]Except that it's not like the first 28 teams get stocked and then the two "extra" NL teams get only the leftovers I thought that was how Washington and Pittsburgh built their rosters?
  17. that hardly makes walmart any more culpable than other companies unless they are "polluting" more on a per-item basis. besides, walmart doesn't put 50 layers of plastic around your new television, the manufacturer does. and if people actually cared about this they'd make an effort to buy less-packaged products which would lead manufacturers to produce less-packaged products
  18. AG/DC wrote: You're missing my point. See my last sentence above. Have I discussed with you my attitude toward WalMart's labor practices? i was really talking to "metbot", ie the perason who thinks this movie has anything to do with walmart in the first place
  19. way to start a movie thread without a poll
  20. you may hate walmart's labor practices but what do they have to do with being bad for the environment that you can't say about every other company?
  21. who is the dodger 2nd row from the bottom 4th man from the right? he looks like Bill Clinton's retarded cousin.
  22. sucks for willie, they should have let Hurdle bring whoever he wanted, even if it means willie unemployed wearing the NL-batting practice jersey
  23. cool story, his baseball reference page is taken.
  24. he's not hitting as well as last year to this point, but at a .369 OBP/.466 SLG he's not nearly the problem. if the whole team did that they'd lead the league in runs. Beltran's numbers are equally fine, and reyes must have picked things up without my noticing because his OBP is back at the .350 level of the last 2 years. castillo has even gotten on at a .350 clip, though thats not enough when you slug .300. the problem in this lineup is delgado and leftfield producing nothing while rightfield is only productive when church is healthy. it doesnt help that schneider isnt a good hitter (though you knew that coming in and he's hit beyond reasonable expectations) and the bench has been really bad too
