  1. holy shit we won??? my yahoo browser said 5-4 phils final! PHUCK PHILLY!!!!!! (and yahoo)
  2. Keith Law (yeah, I've been citing him a lot lately) on today's ESPN Baseball Today podcast talks about the Mets... Doesn't advocate rushing Harvey as a starter because "the rotation isn't a problem" but thinks it would be an interesting idea if the Mets wanted to limit his innings to call him up as a reliever for the rest of this year. He also strongly advocates calling up Familia now, Familia is struggling as a starter in AAA and Keith says all the scouts he's talked to don't see him as a longterm starter but asked to pitch one inning he could dial his already impressive heat up around 98 and give the Mets more bullpen help than they are going to find in a trade or from some castoff. He also sees Mejia as reliever. I think its a bit early for Harvey, I'd let him start until mid-august then maybe come help as a reliever for september callups. I love the Familia idea though.
  3. Keith Law wrote a short piece on the 6 biggest international signings, here what he says on Rosario (after cautioning that he doesn't scout internationally himself so this info is all from sources) keith law on espn wrote: Amed Rosario, SS, Dominican Republic (Reported bonus: $1.75 million) Rosario is toolsier than the Venezuelan infielders listed here, with more bat speed and a looser, more projectable body, but his swing is less under control right now and he carries more risk overall. He has the hands and arm strength to stay at shortstop if he doesn't end up outgrowing the position; he could also end up a power-hitting third baseman if the Mets can calm him down at the plate and get his hips and legs working better with his hands.
  4. ONLY 25 hours left until Dickey Time*!!! Can RA end the one-game losing skid? Can he keep the dreaded bullpen door from opening? *thats what she said
  5. Edgy DC wrote: I don't think Sandy needs to find anybody. It remains, to my thinking, about more intelligently using the resources they've got. They've had disappointing bullpens most of the past decade. The personnel have changed plenty. The philosophy is what's wanting. I don't think I've been happy with a Mets bullpen since the days of Turk Wendell and Dennis Cook. Still, this year is worse than many others in terms of performance. The manager has also done a poor job utilizing the best guys in tied and 1-run games while utilizing the worse guys in games with bigger margins. That's been common in the last 10 years both for the Mets and league-wide I believe, but I at least feel its "caught up" to the Mets more this year.
  6. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: I would have been more more than okay with Hefner here in the 8th, with Byrdak for later, as necessary. Well it looks like you'll get him... Along with Batista for ONE PITCH and Byrdak, 3 relievers used up in one inning and Terry is going to be fucked if this game goes long.
  7. I prefer an 11-man pitching staff to a 12, but part of having one is that you don't put Batista in to start the 8th down a run and then pull him after a leadoff single.
  8. I've heard Keith Law say that he doesn't stick at SS but should be ok in Centerfield on his speed alone even if he doesn't get great breaks on balls. He is going to be fun to watch.
  9. Edgy DC wrote: Is this the same as Moonrise Kingdom? It was so bad I even forgot the title. I wish we'd seen "Ted" instead, I'm sure the live teddy bear was at least good for some laughs.
  10. Please let this thread stand as a warning. I've included no poll, no long review, just these words that you'll wish you had heeded: Don't waste your time. Edit- I added the poll requested and changed the title to reflect the actual name of this disaster. Let the record show that the thread was originally misnamed and Edgy corrected me.
  11. Batista put the ball right on Nickeas' glove to start the easiest 1-2-3 DP ever, instead its 2 runs. this team that nobody thought could HIT is going to miss the playoffs thanks to a shoddy bullpen and horrible defensive execution
  12. shit, thats TWO outs the Mets have run into this inning. trying to stretch a single makes sense with 2 outs, its a TERRIBLE idea with one out and a runner headed to 3rd beacuse now you cant score that guy ahead of you on an out.
  13. Buster Posey I heard set some kind of votes-record, Melky Cabrera got in and Brandon "I played only half the time" Belt was 2nd to Votto at 1B... Either the san fran voters went NUTS or there was some cheatin going on.
  14. "Experience in New York" means "Motherfucking Yankee Reject" right?
  15. Tejada with his 4th hit says "JOSE WHO???"
  16. DocTee wrote: Den Dekker would be too steep for a free-agent to be, I think. Plus, there'll be bats that could be had for less soon enough....Soriano could come cheap, and apparently the Cubs would pay major freight. Shin-Shoo Choo anyone? (perhaps the Tribe could even send us back Joe Smith, or Matt LaPorta if we sent say, Murphy and Davis). Quentin is intruiging but the injury and potential short-term part of this deal worry me LaPorta is an AL-player from what i've heard, his ideal position is DH and i don't think we need more of those guys.
  17. FUCKING BULLSHIT, BLIND MOTHERFUCKING UMPIRES, GO FUCK YOURSELVES!!!! Oh and i hope MLB replaces them all with robots, fuck them
  18. Too many relievers, not enough platoons/pinch-hitters is a common theme across the league these days. When the Mets say "bullpen help" they really mean "warm body with arm attached" because he isn't really going to HELP, is he? Given the number of guys who barely hit AND have adequate defensive replacements (catcher, 2B, sometimes SS/1B, outfielders) a bat like Pascucci would be more valuable than another reliever. Heck the Mets could go 11-man if they are willing to carry both Batista and Hefner for multiple inning stints (the remaining 4 would be Francisco, Parnell, Rauch, and Byrdak for now) and then have room for a positionless pinch-hit slugger (think Thome)
  19. Tejadaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
  20. walks and shitty infield hits tend to lead to that. FUCK!
  21. Ceetar wrote: I propose full excerpts of professional idiots, so I don't have to give them page hits. Matthews is on record as basically calling the knuckleball worse than steroids. I'm really really hoping he pipes up with more of that. I propose not polluting the forum with their articles, just paste the dumbest line (no, not "written by Matthews") and assume we don't really want to read it anyway.
  22. I think Flores was recently promoted as well!
  23. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Wow... Bud Harrelson doesn't even make the list. Wouldn't he NOT be a "small-time" Met though? Where's Dunston?
  24. Ashie62 wrote: Jose Reyes .270 2 hr 16 rbi Barf.. Are we really citing a leadoff hitter's RBI total to try and make a point about the quality of his play this year? Barf.
