  1. What would you give the D-bags if Gregorious were available? this is a guy who wont even see arbitration for 3 years so it wont be cheap. Is Montero available for him? I dont know if I'd do it but thats probably the minimum
  2. Edgy MD wrote: So, everybody but me wants Kemp. I made up a BS package of den Dekker, Murphy, and Montero. But what actual package would you give up for him? Would you demand some money back as well? If we're paying that contract, they aren't getting Montero. We'll send them Kirk Niewenhuis and a bag of balls (used, dirty ones) and they can thank us for taking that thing off their hands. On the other hand, if they wanted to pay half his salary... Murphy, Montero, and Nimmo?
  3. I hate seeing beltran in pinstripes
  4. pass on another over-hyped foreign middle infielder. if he doesnt have a good bat i'm not interested because i'm sure the glove will fall well short if the hype too.
  5. You know who was a better, and younger, hitter than Granderson in the 3 years before the Mets overpaid him? Jason Bay. and that is what I think this contract would look like by year 3.
  6. Thought this was really cool from fangraphs, its about putting a value on the effect of pitching afteer the knuckleballer. Dickey could he adding up to 1.4-1.8 WAR per year just by pitching 200 innings and "messing up hitters" for those who follow him. http://www.fangraphs.com/community/the-r-a-dickey-effect-2013-edition/
  7. Love the move for Texas, Fielder will bounce back and destroy the ball for them while moving Kinsler opens up room for both Andrus and Profar to play.
  8. Vaughn posted on twitter that he was just fucking with his agent and didnt expect him to anounce it
  9. Mets prospect Cory Vaughn , son of Greg, was bit by a scorpion while out in the Arizona Fall League. I'll take my freezing cold weather and laugh at Arizona... at least we dont have scorpions
  10. Gwreck wrote: between Opening Day and the ASG and today.. I've seen it full a lot this year. If those were the only games you went to, sure. There were three games this year with paid attendance over 41,000: opening day, fireworks night, and this game. Attendance this season was 2,093,766, down 6.6% from last year. It was the fifth straight season of decreasing attendance. A trend that will likely continue until they don't suck. its been 1997 since they finished this poorly in attendance and, even worse, they finished 14th of 15 teams in the NL! worst since 12th of 12 in both 1983 and 1979. ouch.
  11. This was a real great example of why 1 year deals to veterans are low risk and high-reward. the Mets got a good year and a good prospect for dirt cheap. if Byrd had sucked he'd have been gone and forgotten in June (see: Cowgill) and nobody would care about the "wasted" money good move Alderson!
  12. This is about the worst news Mets fans could have heard. Pretty much a final "fuck you" to cap off another lost season only this one threatens to de-rail the franchise for the next few years as well. Put Wheeler and Niese in bubble-wrap until spring training, we're done here.

He's better than Eric Young Jr though, so it's really a no-brainer. Especially today/tonight with K-happy Harvey on the mound and where he'll presumably get fewer chances in the field and his offense might push the Mets to as many as 2! runs tonight. He's better than EYJ career-wise, but for what EYJ has given the Mets (including defense) it could be a toss-up.
  14. Frayed Knot wrote: A bit tough here on Turner, no, especially seeing as how his role is that of a utility guy where he's currently hitting at above league averages for both BA & OBA and has covered five different positions this season including being the only backup SS?. I mean, sure, a home run every now and then would be great (although 9 doubles & a triple among his 39 hits isn't nothing) but backup infielders who hit for both average and power are so rare they have a special name; they're called 'Starters'. indeed. this isnt the late 90's steroid era anymore. half the league doesnt even have a starting SS who hits well (us included)
  15. I can't imagine that Ike will get too big a number in arbitration. And if he did, the Mets do have the option to release him (or trade him) and not pay the money. I'm pretty sure once you go to arbitration its a guaranteed contract.
  16. Vic Sage wrote: Then they might as well play to those of us who were. why pick a 3rd rater when the first 1st tier baddies are still available? My point was more that since none of the villains would be a "draw" to the wider audience of comic book fans (like, say, Spiderman 3 shoving Venom in there despite already having 2 other villains) they might as well just pick the one they can get the best story out of.
  17. I think that after Loki, ALL the Thor villains are obscure to anyone who wasn't specifically a fan of Thor growing up.
  18. Is it my TV or is there some strange noise in the background of tonight's broadcast? Sounds like vuvuzela night or something

  20. Fman99 wrote: I get that Puig is the bees' knees and all, but sitting 3-0 with Harvey all over the place, if I'm Donnie Doucheball, I want him taking a pitch or two there. that was a GIFT to the Mets there. You can't swing 3-0 there.
  21. Ike Davis - 1 Ruben Tejada - 2 Lucas Duda - 1 Daniel Murphy - 1 Marlon Byrd - 3 Omar Quntanilla - 1 Juan Lagares - 1 Eric Young - 1 Jordany Valdespin - 3 Kirk Nieuwenhuis - 2 Josh Satin - 2 Justin Turner - 1 Anthony Recker - 1 John Buck - 3 Wilmer Flores - 2 Travis dArnaud - 1 David Wright - 1 Jenrry Mejia - 2 Jeurys Familia - 1 Bobby Parnell - 1 Jon Niese - 1 Dillon Gee - 1 Jeremy Hefner - 2 zack Wheeler - 1 Noah Syndergaard - 2 Matt Harvey - 1 Byrd and Buck are gone with no major additions. The pitching staff is virtually unchanged. The logjam of mediocrity remains at 1B with Ike struggling again and blocking us from seeing Satin or Flores play full time. The Mets sign an aging FA OF to a 1 year deal hoping to catch lighting in a bottle again but this mystery man is no Marlon Byrd. The Mets remain mysteriously in love with Quintanilla. Opening Day Line Up: Young RF Murphy 2B Wright 3B Duda LF Lagares CF Davis 1B D'Arnaud C Quintanilla SS Harvey P Rotation: Harvey, Wheeler, Niese, Gee, random Shawn Marcum-like lottery ticket (Hefner and then Mejia 1st guys up to start from AAA, Syndergaard in July is here to stay) Bullpen: no major additions, a couple of new and inconsequential faces Bench: mystery low-paid veteran OF, Turner, Recker, Puello, mystery low-paid middle infielder. The Mets insist everything will be fine and the "kids are on the way", and while this is true of an ever improving and under-appreciated pitching staff (including Mejia and Familia in the bullpen by August) the Mets continue to not give a chance to Satin, Flores, Puello, Den Dekker, and others with none of them reaching 300 ABs.
  22. MFS62 wrote: Most of the teams have around 50 or more remaining games on their major league schedules. But if games get rained out and the teams play fewer than 50 games, do the suspensions spill over to next year? Later very rarely do they avoid makeup games altogether, MLB is like Uncle Scrooge, once they have your money they don't want to give it back. I dont think anyone has played less than 161 since the strike-shortened 1995 season.
  23. Fman99 wrote: There's some A+ Mets off day viewing right there. Rat Boy done after 2 2/3, 11 H, 1 BB. Second straight night that the MFY starter couldn't get through the third inning. don't bother. RA Dickey's 20th win (9/27/12) was on SNY, much better viewing.
  24. Edgy MD wrote: It only distorts the record to call Fartinez a can't-miss prospect. Every last one of us knows there's no-such thing. I don't remember him being called one. Certainly he was highly-touted, but I don't think he was one of those Chipper Jones/A-Rod type guys who were universally thought of as future no-doubt all-stars when they were still in the minors
  25. Didn't lose any of the suspended guys this year, but I did have some key players go to the American League in my NL-only league.
