  1. Not that I've seen. I wonder if there are any rumors about other teams being interested in Jerry Manuel. I expect that he'll just be chillin' back home in California next year.
  2. (No, I don't know exactly what I meant by that "sneeze" comment. It doesn't make sense to me either!)
  3. That's strange. You can be Babe Ruth or Mickey Mantle, but you can't be Gehrig, DiMaggio, Berra, or Jeter. By the way, what were you doing on that page? Did SteveJRogers sneeze on you or something?
  4. Didn't really like the original Takahashi card, so I redid it.

  8. No. Fathers-in-law weren't invited.
  9. I would think that they'd do one in spring training, and another one mid-season. (For the revised edition of the yearbook; you know, I really miss the old-style yearbooks.) I can't imagine why they bother now, when nobody really cares about the team. What are they going to use this photo for?
  10. Jay keeping the possibility alive of a three-decade Met representing the 1990's-2000's-2010's period.
  11. I'm thinking third place under Wally Bee.

  13. Davey was always willing to sacrifice defense for offense. When he became manager, he quickly turned away from the glove types like Brian Giles and Jose Oquendo (who would later become a better hitter after he left the Mets) and towards guys he saw as having better bats, like Backman and Gardenhire and Kelvin Chapman. Under Davey, we saw him try guys like Howard Johnson, Hubie Brooks, and Kevin Mitchell at shortstop. I really think that if Davey were running the 2011 Mets, and Daniel Murphy was healthy, that he'd be the guy at second base.

  17. This was a tricky one. I voted Turner mainly because I'd like to see Tejada spend more time at Buffalo learning how to hit. I was tempted to vote for Murphy, because I'd like to see him get recovered and back on track, but I don't think he'll be doing it as a second baseman. I'd also like to see Castillo earn his salary next year, but maybe his time has passed. So I voted for Turner. He had a good season at Buffalo, so let's see what he can do.
  18. True. And I think that's what we'll all be hoping for as we head into 2011.
  19. Edgy DC wrote: ...they have very big question marks in Santana, Bay, and Beltran --- their three highest paid players. Plus, a lot of money tied up on Perez, Castillo, and (unless they succeed in getting out of it) Rodriguez. It's hard to see 2011 as anything other than a fallow season in which they position themselves for 2012.
  20. Who would you like to see at second base for the Mets next year? (Separate thread for predictions is here)
  21. Andy Martino speculates on the Mets 2011 second baseman in the Daily News this morning. (see below) Who do you THINK it will be? (There's a separate poll for who you WANT it to be.) Although Tejada has struggled with the bat, he remains the leading candidate to replace Luis Castillo in 2011 - and the Mets have made clear in recent weeks that they do not consider the veteran a part of their future. When Tejada failed to produce after an August call-up, the Mets turned to Triple-A infielder Luis Hernandez, a clear sign of Castillo's status. Although the Mets have tried in the past to trade Castillo - who is owed more than $6 million next season - they seem likely this time to somehow finalize the divorce that both sides clearly want. The Mets may not have any choice but to turn to Tejada, who is batting just .206. The second base free agent class is weak this offseason, highlighted by 32-year-olds Orlando Hudson and Cristian Guzman. Reese Havens, the Mets' first-round choice in 2008, missed most of this year with oblique and back injuries. Daniel Murphy, who will work at second base and other positions while playing in the Dominican Republic this winter, is too limited defensively to become a middle infielder. Jerry Manuel suspects it will take more than one winter for Tejada to develop. "That would depend basically on the bat," Manuel said. "I think if you see he has significant improvement in the bat between now and the start of next season, you'd definitely have to consider him as a guy that has a chance to be a starter." Asked if he thought Tejada could make that leap before next spring, Manuel admitted it was unlikely. "It will probably take a little while for him," he said.

  23. The humidity was unbelievable. Take a ten-minute walk and you're drenched with sweat. But I was there in late June. I've been there on previous trips in early May, and it was much more pleasant. I've been to Puerto Rico three times, always in May and June. While heat and humidity is less in May, it seems there's always a threat of rain.
