  1. I'd love to think that Davey Johnson will be a candidate, but I suspect that's very unlikely.
  2. That season-opening series against the Marlins: didn't I hear that they were thinking of playing it in San Juan?
  3. It just occurred to me that maybe the Mets would consider replacing Jerry with their bench coach, and then I couldn't for the life of me think of who that bench coach might be. I finally had to look it up: Dave Jauss. Has Jauss said or done anything at all this year? Have the Mets ever had a lower profile bench coach?
  4. I know there are exceptions... but Yankee fandom has infested the planet.
  5. Maybe if his agent was an elephant.
  6. Associated Press wrote: NEW YORK - Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez faces more charges in his New York City assault case. Authorities said in court Tuesday that Rodriguez violated an order of protection by sending his girlfriend 56 text messages apologizing and urging a resolution. They said he'll now be charged with criminal contempt. Rodriguez is accused of attacking his girlfriend's father outside a family lounge at Citi Field.
  7. Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce head of accounts Pete Campbell in Lane Pryce's office: CFO Lane Pryce: I just watched that episode last night. During that scene, my eyes were riveted on that banner. Dig that crazy font! Given Mad Men's reputation for attention to details, I suppose that's a real style that was available in 1964. Lane Pryce is a Brit. Imagine a time when people would move to this country and root for the Mets. Now the world is blanketed in Yankees caps.
  8. Voting for the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday games against the Phillies in Queens will close on Wednesday morning.

  11. Isn't McCarver almost 70? I doubt he'd have any interest in becoming a rookie manager at this stage of his life.
  12. LaRussa, but he's every bit as unlikely as Torre. Maybe Tim Teufel will be a candidate? Maybe he and Wally can platoon as Mets managers, depending on whether the opposing manager is left-handed or right-handed.
  13. I figure Pelfrey and Dickey know more about Warthen than I do, so I'm not really inclined to "disagree." I acknowledge, though, that it's possible that their personal regard for him may be influencing their take on his skills as a pitching coach. But if Warthen stayed and everyone else went, I wouldn't really have a gripe.
  14. So when do we see the beginning of the outcry for Stewie to buy the Mets? After all (let's all say it together) he can't be any worse than what we already have.
  15. Stewie Rah Rah? Who's that supposed to be?

  17. The three questions I'd ask are: 1. Why isn't Carlos Beltran here? 2. Why isn't Luis Castillo here? 3. Why isn't Oliver Perez here?

  20. Mets' Beltran out with tendinitis in left knee (AP) 38 minutes ago NEW YORK Carlos Beltran is out of the New York Mets' lineup with tendinitis in his left knee caused by overcompensating during rehabilitation from surgery on his right knee. Beltran says he felt pain in the knee after stepping hard at first base during his first at-bat against Philadelphia Friday night, but he was able to finish the game. He is not certain if he will play Sunday. Beltran played with tendinitis in both knees in 2006 and '07. The center fielder was told by doctors after having offseason surgery on the right knee that he might develop the condition. Doctors noted it's natural to put more stress on the healthy leg while rebuilding strength in the injured one. Angel Pagan was in center field for Saturday's game against the Phillies.
  21. Topic title... confusing...
  22. Carlos Beltran is advising him to wait until January to have the surgery.
  23. Wow... I just noticed that the rest of the way, the Mets have five road games and 17 home games! That could have given them a hell of an advantage had they been in a pennant race.
