  1. THE SCHAEFER METS PLAYERS OF THE YEAR PLAYER OF THE YEAR The Schaefer Mets Player of the Year for 2010 is DAVID WRIGHT. This is the fifth time David has won in the six years that the Crane Pool Forum has been maintaining the Schaefer tradition. Wright led the 2010 Mets in games (157), at bats (587), runs (87), doubles (36), home runs (29), runs batted in (103), caught stealing (11), slugging (.503), on base percentage (.354), total bases (295), sac flies (12), intentional walks (7), and his 161 strikeouts broke a record set by Dave Kingman back in 1982. PITCHER OF THE YEAR The Schaefer Mets Pitcher of the Year, for the third year in a row, is JOHAN SANTANA. Johan led the Mets in only two categories: complete games (4) and shutouts (2). Santana, whose season ended on September 2, finished at 11-9 with a 2.98 ERA. He finished less than 9 points ahead of R.A. Dickey, who led the Mets in ERA (2.84) and Mike Pelfrey, the Mets 15-game winner. Dickey, of course, didn't debut with the Mets until May 19, and Pelfrey was virtually shut out of Schaefer points in July, when he went 0-3 with a 10.02 ERA over 5 starts. RELIEF PITCHER OF THE YEAR The Mets reliever of the year is HISANORI TAKAHASHI. Takahashi totaled 52.48 points overall, but 23.67 of those points came as a starter. His 28.81 points from the bullpen were enough to outscore Pedro Feliciano (26.37) and Francisco Rodriguez, the team save leader, who scored 26.15. Takahashi saved 8 games for the Mets. In 41 games in relief, he was 6-2 in 57.1 innings, with an ERA of 2.04. FUN FACTS The highest point total earned by any one player in 2010 was the 5.99 and it was done twice: by Jon Niese on June 10 and by Johan Santana on July 6. The lowest "winning score" was the 0.70 that Jason Bay was awarded on May 1, in a 10-0 loss to Philadelphia. The most Schaefer Player of the Game awards went to Johan Santana, with 21. Strangely, players such as Ruben Tejada and Oliver Perez were Player of the Game more often than Jose Reyes. NUMBER OF SCHAEFER POTG WINS IN 2010 Johan Santana 21 R. A. 5. He better hope nobody makes him catch, if you know what I mean.
  6. Time to wrap up the Schaefer stuff for 2010. Voting for the last three games of the season (against Washington at Citi Field) will close tomorrow, and the final Schaefer season totals will be revealed. If you care to cast any final Schaefer votes, please do so today. Friday's game Saturday's game Sunday's game
  7. There must be an ointment you can use for that.
  8. A list of resources from around the Web about the New York Mets as selected by researchers and editors of The New York Times. Wow. (And congratulations to Johnny and Fafif!)
  9. Michigan, it's a 1976. The 1978's looked like this: (Although not every player had that deranged expression.)
  10. And one of the guys Madden is suggesting is 58.

  12. SCHAEFER METS PLAYER AND PITCHERS OF THE MONTH, SEPTEMBER 2010 This month, the Schaefer awards go to three first-time winners. The Schaefer Mets Player of the Month for September 2010 is IKE DAVIS. Davis had 3 home runs, and 13 runs batted in during September. He led the Mets in the following categories: Runs (16), Hits (31), Doubles (8), Walks (18), Batting Average (.344) and OBP (.445). His .533 slugging percentage was a close second to David Wright's .538. The Schaefer Mets Pitcher of the Month is rookie DILLON GEE. Gee was 2-2 in September, with a team-best 2.18 ERA in 33 innings over 5 starts. And the Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is ELMER DESSENS. Dessens edged last month's winner, Hisanori Takahashi, by .03 points. Dessens had a 2.63 ERA in September, with a 1-1 record in 16 games and 13.2 innings. He had no saves. 14. metirish wrote: Liked the interim Jerry but that soon got old and didn't care for full-time Jerry. Yeah, he was a breath of fresh air in 2008, and he helped make a going nowhere season into something that was almost special. I was glad when they brought him back, but now, of course, wish that they hadn't. Seems like a nice guy, and is probably good in the clubhouse, but a terrible tactician.
  15. Played the Johan Santana trade market very nicely. Sure, there was some luck involved, but swinging that deal defied some pretty steep odds.
  16. Wait... who's Omar?
  17. Oh, by the way, I meant "fucking" as an adjective, not a verb, but it would work either way.
  18. No, next time say, "Who the hell are YOU to ask who I am! I'm fucking Snooki! PUT ME THROUGH!"
  19. Turns out it's not actually HH after all. I finally received the images this morning: The face values of the tickets should give a clue about the year in which they were printed.
  20. True. It's rare to change GM's (unless a guy is retiring) when things are going well, so you're always bringing a new guy in at a "crisis" point. The one exceptional thing this time is that the new guy is coming in handcuffed to a lot of bad salaries for 2011, so the more ingenuity he has, the better.
  21. So if the Mets sign a Type A free agent this winter, the team that lost the player doesn't get the Mets' pick, but a sandwich pick instead? Is that right?
  22. I'm not sure about the "since Frank Cashen" part, but it is an important hire. It's very important to get things turned around before this decline accelerates. And we'll need a bright GM in place for 2011, which is going to be a very challenging year.
  23. So they never wore the pinstripes with the black-and-blue caps this year? I know I've seen that combination in previous seasons. Nice to see that the blue cap was worn 41 times. (More than half of the home games and more than a quarter of the overall games.) I'd like to see them revive the grey uniform/blue cap combo on the road like they did for that one game where Carlos Delgado came back to life in 2008 at Yankee Stadium.
  24. No. Any games played in March or October count only to season totals, but not to monthly awards.
  25. Voting for the September 30game (a 9-2 loss to the Brewers) will close on Tuesday morning. That will wrap up the month of September. It looks like we'll have first-time winners in all three categories, so look for three all-new retro baseball cards in tomorrow's Player of the Month announcement. On Wednesday the voting for the three games against Washington will close, and with that we'll be able to reveal the Schaefer Mets Player of the Year. (I doubt that anyone will be surprised by the result.)
