  1. I didn't know it was Hitchcock's favorite. I'm glad I share his taste! I suspect, though, that it wouldn't win a poll of favorite Hitchcock films. (Not sure what would... probably Psycho or The Birds.)
  2. Anyone else remember these books?
  3. Not sure exactly why, but I have a special fondness for Shadow of a Doubt.

  5. Voting for Tuesday's win over the Brewers will close on Friday morning. We've had a bit of an uptick in participation lately, which is nice to see; gives me a dash of enthusiasm for continuing this silly exercise into the 2011 season. I'll probably close last night's doubleheader over the weekend. If there's a rainout tonight, that will wrap up the month of September and potentially cause one particular Met to lose a shot at Schaefer glory.
  6. Reyes 1.5 Pagan 1.5 Davis 0.5 Valdes 0.75 Dickey 5
  7. I know he's not "stretched out" but it seems like Perez is probably the best choice for Saturday's start. (Unless maybe it's Valdes?)

  12. We were counting on the ifs for 2010, and that didn't work out. Not to say that 2011 can't be different. There may be reason to be hopeful, but at this point there seems to be little reason to be optimistic. (But let's see what the offseason brings...)

  15. And Jose and David are neck-and-neck in their chase to pass Darryl Strawberry in runs scored: 1. Darryl Strawberry 662 2. David Wright 634 3. Jos Reyes 632 4. Howard Johnson 627 5. Edgardo Alfonzo 614 6. Mookie Wilson 592 7. Cleon Jones 563 8. Ed Kranepool 536 9. Mike Piazza 532 10. Carlos Beltran 490 Bud Harrelson 490 Look for that record to topple next year. (And look who's about to knock Bud Harrelson out of the top ten.)
  16. Jose Reyes (1,113) now has more base hits as a Met than Mookie Wilson (1,112). 1. Ed Kranepool 1418 2. Cleon Jones 1188 3. David Wright 1144 4. Edgardo Alfonzo 1136 5. Jos Reyes 1113 6. Mookie Wilson 1112 Wright and Reyes are poised to move into second and third place during 2011, and it looks like Ed Kranepool will finally be surpassed some time in 2012.
  17. Ashie62 wrote: Andy McCullough writes in the Ledger today how to fix the Mets. http://www.nj.com/mets/index.ssf/2010/09/better_drafting_support_of_dav.html In recent years, Minaya doled out chunks of cash to aging stars (Johan Santana and Carlos Beltran) and fading non-factors (Luis Castillo and Oliver Perez). Come on! Both Santana and Beltran were under 30 when the Mets acquired them. Sure, Beltran is aging now, but he's also in the sixth year of that contract. He was just shy of 28 when he played his first game as a Met. And Santana was two weeks past his 29th birthday when he made his Mets debut.

  21. I'd vote for Frankie Rodriguez as Most Volatile Player.
  22. I think they do. I wouldn't be at all surprised by a day-night doubleheader on Wednesday or Thursday. If they cancel it, I think they'd have more of an obligation to refund tickets, wouldn't they? Also, they usually don't let games go unplayed if there's still a chance to make them up, even if they're meaningless. If Thursday's game were to be rained out, that would be the end of it; they wouldn't make the Brewers return to Queens on Monday.
  23. Voting for the September 22 loss to the Marlins will close on Tuesday morning.
  24. Never quite made it on to the list of 20 oldest living Mets. (He didn't miss by much.) Died 7 days after Wayne Twitchell. Not the shortest interval between Mets player deaths, but close. Jack Lamabe and Jim Beauchamp died four days apart in December 2007.
  25. Connie Mack never won a division title.
