  1. I think it would depend on why they won 84 games instead of 90. If it's key late-season injuries, then he might come back. If it's an 8 and 18 September, then he's probably gone.
  2. I don't know. I imagine that if the Mets start out 3 and 18, or something awful like that, Terry would be fired. I think, however, that the Mets will play well enough for him to keep his job the whole season.
  3. I can see how it might make sense to give a sixth guy a spot start every once in a while, but not as part of a regular rotation.
  4. Lefty Specialist wrote: He'll have a very good year, but you won't see him on the Mets until June 2016. I agree with that, unless Granderson or Cuddyer (or perhaps Duda) suffers one of those 60-day injuries.
  5. Leaves his wife and son and marries Nathan Lane.
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: Why not just retire the position of short stop rather than let someone else disgrace the memory? That's exactly what I was thinking. Just paint a big number 2 on the infield dirt between second and third bases.
  7. Duda, maybe, but not Daniel Murphy. He wouldn't approve the "lifestyle".
  8. Wright apologizes? http://sports.yahoo.com/news/wright-apologizes-prospect-scolding-him-near-media-192058967--mlb.html What a wuss. Later PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) -- New York Mets captain David Wright apologized for scolding pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard on Tuesday in the clubhouse while reporters were nearby. David's not saying he was wrong to criticize Noah, but he regrets that he didn't do it privately. I don't see any wussiness in that.
  9. I'm quite confident that this will have no impact on how long Murphy stays with the Mets.
  10. It's hard to understand why people who aren't gay think it's a choice, when people who are gay (and presumably are a bit more informed on the subject) say otherwise. I mean, I know that there are some (I suspect Rick Santorum is one of them) who do have gay urges and consciously choose to repress them and assume that everyone else is doing the same. (These would be the people who think that allowing gay marriage would undermine straight marriage, because why would a man marry a woman when he can marry a man?) I tend to doubt that Daniel Murphy falls into this category, but who can say for sure? I really doubt that this will affect Murphy's tenure with the Mets. He'll be traded, or not traded, based on what's going on on the field.
  11. Ugh. There goes the goodwill he earned last year for being a good husband and father.
  12. I was unaware of that too, until this morning.
  13. It's been a while since I've seen the movie, but I remember thinking it was pretty good. (Not sure what an IA card is.) I gave it 3.5 stars. Does your use of the phrase "sat through it" indicate that you didn't enjoy it?
  14. The players, the umpire, and the crowd don't seem to be dressed for October.
  15. batmagadanleadoff wrote: ROY if he's promoted before Memorial Day. Plus, you'll need that if you want the Mets to get to the WS in 2016. Because whenever a Mets RHP wins the ROY award (Seaver. Gooden. de Grom?) the Mets win the Series two years after. Whenever a Mets LHP wins the ROY award (Matlack) the Mets are in the Series the following season. Well, then they don't need Matz to win the ROY; deGrom's winning the award in 2014 already clinched the 2016 World Series for the Mets.
  16. I really don't know. I'm very intrigued by this guy, and by the infield decisions the Mets will have to make in the next couple of years. Some of these players will inevitably fall short of expectations, making some decisions easier, but I'm pretty sure some tough choices may have to be made. My guess: Duda leaves via free agency, and the Mets infield becomes Flores, Herrera, Reynolds, and Wright. As for Herrera in 2015, it depends on Daniel Murphy. If he's healthy and productive and the Mets are contending, Herrera bides his time in Las Vegas and Murphy spends the full season with the Mets. If Murphy is healthy and productive and the Mets are not contending, then Murphy gets dealt and Herrera takes his job. And if Murphy has a lengthy injury or is having a bad year, Herrera displaces him.
  17. 13-10, 3.40. I don't think he'll ever be as good as he was in 2013, and that's not just because of the surgery.
  18. I'm not very optimistic here. .225, 22 homers. A few hot streaks and some long stretches of futility.
  19. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: Are we counting postseason wins? If not, I'll say in the 86 to 88 range, a nice step up. If you want to have a chance at being declared the winner of this little contest, you should pick an exact number.
  20. The Mets have a lot of potential middle infield options coming along over the next couple of years. (I think that, as much as anything, is why they didn't feel that they had to go all in for that Cuban shortstop.) I suspect that Matt Reynolds will be one of those who sticks around, either as a regular SS or 2B or as a supersub. (I can see him possibly spelling David Wright at third base from time to time.)
  21. I think he'll stick around until about the middle of May, perhaps longer if he pitches well enough.
  22. Put me down for 84-78.
  23. Yeah! Bring back Mackey Shillstone!
  24. Harry -> Eric Rassmussen. And then of course, there's Bruce Jenner...
