  1. If you're going to have something from Switzerland, it might as well be Lindor chocolates.
  2. If the batter swings at a pitch, it's going to be a strike even if it's 40 feet out of the strike zone. So I don't see why a batter can't continue to be fooled by a pitch.
  3. Do you recall any from catchers? I guess it may be hard to tell, from the stands, if the request came from a catcher or a pitcher, but you'd know if the disputed call was a ball, it would have been challenged from the defense.
  4. For whatever it's worth, and it probably isn't much, Pat Ragazzo of SI.com is reporting that an unnamed source says there's mutual interest between the Mets and Quintana. I hope it's true, but I'll have more confidence when I hear it from someone who's not a suspected AI bot.
  5. He was also 38 years old last year, so that may have something to do with it as well. https://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2024/20240921_NYP_02.jpg> https://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2024/20240921_NYDN_02.jpg>
  6. I remember during those years, when the upcoming inning would have the Mets 7-8-9 hitters due up, with Ordonez the 8 guy, thinking it was just about certain to be a dead inning. Not a good thing for a contending club. I see he hit .245 as a Met, which is higher than I would have guessed. But with a .290 OBP and .304 slugging. I decided to compare him with Bud Harrelson: .234/.324/.287. Those are pretty awful too, but it was a different era, when fewer shortstops were expected to hit. By the time of Ordonez, there was A-Rod and Nomar and Ripken and Larkin and Vizquel and that guy in the Bronx. And we had Rey Ordonez.
  7. https://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2024/20240630_NYP_02.jpg>
  8. Whenever I'd hear his name, I'd think I was hearing "Onomatopoeia" I see he didn't get into any postseason games in 2024. Was he dropped from the roster? I don't recall.
  9. Interesting that managers and coaches don't have any say in the matter. A selfish player who doesn't like being called out on strikes in the second inning could blow one of his team's only two challenges. This doesn't mean I think the manager should be involved; the delay of game that would result isn't worth it.
  10. Unfortunately, it's only available in the Mets' designated territory. If not for that limitation, I might have considered signing up for it.
  11. There's a security guard standing in the back, near the revolving door. And don't underestimate those ducklings! They're fierce!
  12. I hope they're considering Quintana, now that Montas will be out, probably at least until June. I don't expect, however, that they're going to go in that direction.
  13. All I know is that her name is Sandra. At least, that's what they tell me.
  14. Jerry Seinfeld and Grimace are somewhat well-known, but all of the others are models for whom this, so far, has been their biggest break. Marissa and Shelby, who we see in the final image, from Yosemite, are our longest-serving models.
  15. I'm happy whenever I get a score less than 100. Today I had a 98, so I guess that means I'm happy. Six Mets. 16. Tabloid Cover Derby X is now completed, and Newsday has won its fifth title, tying it with the Daily News, which won its fifth title last year. The New York Post is still looking for its first championship. 2024 CHAMPION COVER ALONSOMG! Newsday, October 4, 2024. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/ALONSOMG.png> This year's winning cover was carried into Stockholm in the king's Royal Carriage, with King Gustav and Queen Sofia along for the ride. As always, we thank the Royal Family for their generous patronage. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/RoyalCarriageAlonso.jpg> Due to a mishap in the front office, no venue was reserved in advance for this year's ceremony, so all involved had to make do with an impromptu event on a busy street corner. King Gustav was present to represent the royal family. Mayor McCheese filled in for his good friend Grimace, who had a scheduling conflict. (He's in a bowling league with Cookie Monster, and they have a playoff match today.) The Mayor and the King were joined by Mr. Met, the ghost of Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman, and CPF receptionist and reality show star Maja, resplendent in a billowy black dress. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/ceremony2024.jpg> As is customary, the winning cover is now on display in the lobby of the Kran Pool Forum Internationella Huvudkontoret, the CPF's International Headquarters. After the ceremony, Maja changed her clothes and returned to her post at the reception desk. In the foreground, we see Matias, 2024's Intern of the Year. Matias is a bit of a prodigy, at a very young age he was able to make key contributions in both the Accounting and Public Relations departments. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/lobby_2024.jpg> The winning cover is once again available as a shower curtain! You can get an ALONSOMG! shower curtain of your own at the CPF Gift Shop. Show your membership card for a 15 per cent discount! http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/shower_curtain2024.jpg> Last year's winner, THEY DON'T GOT IT, has joined its predecessors on display at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, where the nine covers are protected around the clock by an armed member of the Swedish Royal Guard. The exhibit, Tabloid Omslagsderby Mästerskapsgalleri, is once again sponsored by the Slate and Gravel Corporation of Bedrock. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/ArtMuseum2024.jpg> As a result of his appearance on the winning cover, Mets first baseman Pete Alonso has been awarded a gigantic box of Rice-a-Roni, the San Francisco Treat. (Pete can choose to opt out of the Rice-A-Roni in October. If he does so, he will be compensated with a giant box of Noodle Roni.) For being on the second-place cover, Sean Manaea will receive a copy of the Tabloid Cover Derby Home Game, available for sale wherever deeply unpopular toys and games are sold. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/gigantic_rice.png> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/home_version.png> Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's Tabloid Cover Derby! We'll return for our eleventh year of voting in November 2024! http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_brackets_005.png> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_02_01.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_02_02.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_02_03.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_02_04.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_02_05.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_02_06.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_02_07.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_02_08.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_02_09.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_02_10.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_03_01.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_03_02.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_03_03.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_03_04.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_03_05.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_03_06.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_03_07.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_03_08.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_04_01.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_04_02.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_04_03.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_04_04.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_05_01.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_05_02.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_06_01.jpg>

  18. Although the individual numbers add up to 59.2, Immaculate Grid says I got a 58. 19. Well, that didn't take long. I suspect he wouldn't have been that much better than Tylor Megill, who'll likely replace him in the rotation. It does put the first dent in the pitching depth, though. So that sucks.
  20. I remember hearing, perhaps on WFAN, that "the Mets don't need A-Rod because they have Rey Ordonez."
  21. He definitely seems to be a malcontent wherever he goes.
  22. The Mets had too many mediocre years between 1970 and 1976 for that to be a "golden age" compared to 1984-1990, when they contended every year. 1969 may very well be their most golden year, but nobody was considering the Mets to be among the very best teams during the early to mid 1970s.
  23. I see that they'll finally start tracking our stats.
  24. I'm guessing one or two of the guys who were traded for Leiter or Piazza. (I don't remember who they were, however!)
  25. Lefty Specialist wrote: Playoffs are not a given with this team. Braves, Phillies, Mets, Cubs, Brewers, Dodgers, Padres, and D-Backs are all pretty good shots to hit that mid-80's mark. That's 8 fannies for 6 seats. You're right. Last year, the conventional wisdom was that 86 wins would get you in, but the Diamondbacks won 89 and ended up missing out. I think that 92 or 93 wins are more likely to guarantee a playoff spot. And yes, a guy like Cease would make that 93rd win more likely. They can trade for him in July, I suppose, but wins that accumulate in April and May and June also count.
