  1. Can we add Edgardo Alfonzo to the 40-man roster?
  2. Cespedes 0.5 Clippard 1 Colon 3 Duda 0.5 Murphy 1.25 Tejada 2.5 Wright 1.25
  3. Yeah, the Nationals can easily go 6-2. Most of those games are against the Braves and the Phillies.

  5. The Mets continue to stumble toward their first NL East title in nine years. Yesterday was another loss to the Atlanta Braves, but the saving grace was that the Nationals lost their second straight game to the Orioles. The division lead holds at 6.5 games. The magic number drops from 6 to 5, and the NHOP, more volatile than ever as the number of remaining games shrinks, drops from .261 to .238. If all goes well (or, more accurately, if five out of six games go well) the Mets can clinch the division as early as Saturday. All we know for sure is that the Mets will still be in first place on the morning of the last day of September. The Mets are still in much much better shape than they were in 2007, but their recent 3 and 6 stretch has certainly frayed our nerves a bit. At this point eight years ago, the Mets lead was 1.5 games (The Mets were 84-68 and the Phillies were 83-70), and even with their horrendous season-ending tailspin, they only dropped 2.5 games in the standings over their last ten games. Hopefully this will provide a measure of comfort! 6. I wish my lip-reading skills were a little better than they are. What's David saying there? It looks to me like "Not!"
  7. Maybe KILL KILL KILL has run its course. Should we try SURVIVE SURVIVE SURVIVE?
  8. I was really thinking that Bartolo was going to go nine and give the bullpen a day off. That's not at all likely to happen tomorrow with Matz.
  9. It's over! Orioles win!
  10. Old friend Darren O'Day to close for Baltimore
  11. I switched to this game as soon as the Mets ended. Going into the bottom of the ninth. Three outs away from avoiding a disastrous dsy.
  12. I can't believe the Mets are going to drop two of three to Atlanta.
  13. Also surprising: Bartolo Colon has won more often than anyone else, four times. Three wins each for Duda and Harvey, and twice for Cespedes, deGrom, and Murphy.
  14. Maybe I was misremembering. I guess Yogi wasn't the first; maybe he was the first since Joe McCarthy. I should have remembered Sparky Anderson. He joined the list the same year that Dick Williams did. LaRussa's another story. I try not to think about him.
  15. I remember when Yogi was the only manager in baseball history who had won a pennant in both leagues. (1964 Yankees and 1973 Mets.) Since then, Dick Williams has done it. (Athletics and Padres.) Anyone else? Or is it still just those two?
  16. Yoenis Céspedes' 12.89 Schaefer points are the most that any Met has earned in a single week so far this season. SCHAEFER METS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK, 2015 Week ending April 11, 2015: Travis d'Arnaud, 4.86 points. Week ending April 18, 2015: Lucas Duda, 8.80 points. I thought of Yogi and that quote just yesterday, not knowing that it was during the final hours of Yogi's life. I was thinking that maybe nobody would go to see the pope because it would be too crowded.
  18. Cuddyer 0.5 Gilmartin 1 Murphy 1.5 Robles 0.5 Wright 2
  19. Yogi was the third person to hold the title of oldest living Met. His predecessors were Gil Hodges, who never actually grew old and Warren Spahn. The new title holder is Dave Hillman, whose name is a lot less illustrious than those who came before him.
  20. Cady is "toothsome."
  21. I was pondering the same thing and decided that, rather than overly complicate it, to keep it as it is. Hopefully it will become moot, and the NHOP will expire before the Nationals play the Mets.
