  1. I definitely understand that sentiment. But I'd still hate to see the Mets have an 0 and 3 postseason.
  2. Yeah, the starting pitching hasn't been strong lately, especially the last two outings of deGrom and Harvey. How's this for an idea? Switch to a five-man rotation of Niese, Colon, Matz, Verrett, and Stauffer. In that last series against Washington you can then give deGrom, Harvey, and Syndergaard each one tune-up start.
  3. Yesterday: not a good day. Nationals beat the Phillies, Mets lose to the Marlins. The magic number remains at 10. The division lead drops to 8.5 games. And the NHOP rises, from .270 to .286. 4. John Cougar Lunchbucket (on July 23) wrote: I'm not a Cespedes fan, although I could see him being the kind of guy who'd get traded and subsequently get insanely hot. But I'm with nymr, not sure he's what we really want. I was out of the country for most of this thread and was curious to see what the initial reaction to the Cespedes deal was. It's funny now, with hindsight, to read the first page of this thread. I just had to quote John Cougar Lunchbucket's post. That first sentence is especially prescient, but I think Cespedes has surpassed anyone's expectation of how insane "insanely hot" could be.

  6. They might as well go to the bullpen now.
  7. Lucas strikes me as someone who's not very aware of his surroundings. Terry probably just tells him, "Lucas, you bat after Travis. I'll tell you when to put your helmet on."
  8. That's my thought about the Cubs too. I probably fear Pittsburgh more than any other potential second-round opponent.
  9. He must have gone to Jupiter to get more stupider.
  10. "DUTCH WATERWAY! DUTCH WATERWAY! DUTCH WATERWAY!" isn't quite as catchy.
  11. Voting for all four of the games played in Atlanta this past weekend will close on Wednesday morning, some time after 10 a.m. Schaefer POTG 9/10/15 - Mets 7, Braves 2 Schaefer POTG 9/11/15 - Mets 5, Braves 1 Schaefer POTG, 09/12/2015. Mets 6, Atlanta 4 Schaefer POTG, 09/13/2015. Mets 10, Atlanta 7 (10 innings)
  12. If they trade Granderson, then I think they're going to have to add two outfielders to go with Conforto. I'm happy with Cuddyer and Lagares as reserves, but I don't know if I want to revert to an outfield where they're both starting every day.
  13. If that happens, it's still a good trade.
  14. Mets - Willets Point wrote: It's an unlikely scenario, but the Mets could clinch the division as early as Sunday versus the Yankees. It would require the Mets continuing their winning streak for five more games while the Nats lose at least 5 of their 6 games. From the "Take Back the City" perspective it would be cool to clinch while playing the Yankees. On the downside there were probably be a ton of Yankees fans with tickets to the game, so that would limit the number of Mets fans who could be in attendance. So I'd be content with kicking the pants of the Yankees and the Mets clinching against the Braves in front of a stadium full of Mets fans. They could actually clinch earlier than that. The soonest the Mets can clinch is Sunday afternoon, with a Nationals loss. The division could be clinched on Sunday hours before the Mets take the field. But as you say, that's unlikely. The Mets would have to win their next four (which can happen!) and the Nationals would have to lose their next six, which is pretty unlikely, given their soft competition. TransMonk wrote: But, I always thought that a division winner would get home filed advantage over a wildcard team in an LCS regardless of records. Am I wrong? Did I miss a change when the second wildcard team was added? I don't think that's changed. The only way the Cubs would have home field over the Mets would be if they won the NL Central and had a better (or equal) record than the Mets.
  15. If he's asking for that $175 million over six years, that's not unreasonable. I mean, it's not unreasonable for him to ask for that. Whether it's reasonable for him to get that is another story.
  16. Ashie62 wrote: I saw a comment by Rubin that Yo Yo will be looking at about 175 million in the off season. Over how many years?
  17. He may end up leading the 2015 club in homers.
  18. I think if someone were to throw a no-hitter against the Mets this month, the Mets would still end up winning.
  19. Cespedes 1.5 d'Arnaud 1.8 Familia 1 Reed 1 Robles 1 Verrett 2.5 Wright 1.2
  20. Does this mean that the Mets had a roughly .500 record from April 1969 through August 1978? That's a little surprising.
