  1. Duda 3.5 Granderson 2 Syndergaard 4.5
  2. They should let Uribe sit until October 8 and then reevaluate him. No need to put him in a game at all for the rest of the regular season.
  3. Well, this thread has just about run its course. The Mets won yesterday and the Nationals lost reducing the magic number to 1. The NHOP is .059. The next time the Mets win or the Nationals lose, the Mets will officially win their sixth National League East title. 4. I am really curious about how things will play out this offseason for the Nationals. I've seen some speculation that the Nationals window is about to close, and that they'll be a lesser team next year. I'm not convinced that that's true, but the ongoing fate of the Nationals is definitely something for us to keep an eye on.
  5. So are you saying that Ruben ascendant over Wilmer?
  6. Google "Leigh Castergine"
  7. He's saying that if an umpire, when making a ball/strike call, doesn't consider the position of the catcher's glove when he catches the ball, then a catcher won't be able to influence the umpire's decision.
  8. I don't know about that, but if the mother was unmarried Jeff would have come down to her seat to mock her before throwing her out of the stadium.
  9. It does look like the umpire is watching the ball all the way to the glove. I guess he has to do that if there are two strikes, because he has to make sure the ball was caught, but that's not the situation here.
  10. Based on September usage, it doesn't look too likely that Anthony Recker, Johnny Monell, Dilson Herrera, or Eric Campbell are too likely to be on the postseason roster. I would think that Eric Young is unlikely as well. How many pitchers do we think they'll go with? DeGrom, Harvey, Syndergaard, Matz. Familia, Clippard, Reed, Robles. Who else? I think I'd add Colon and Niese as long relievers/God-forbid-emergency-starters ahead of guys like Gilmartin or Parnell. Goeddel seems to deserve a spot. I'd say Verrett too, but I wouldn't bump Niese or Colon in his favor. So, if it's an 11-man pitching staff, I'll propose deGrom, Harvey, Syndergaard, Matz, Familia, Clippard, Reed, Robles, Colon, Niese, Goeddel. I'd like to see them keep it at 11, but if there's a 12th I'll say Verrett. For 14 position players: D'Arnaud, Plawecki, Duda, Murphy, Johnson, Flores, Tejada, Uribe, Wright, Cespedes, Conforto, Granderson, Lagares, Cuddyer. If it's only 13 position players, I'd reluctantly drop either Lagares or Cuddyer from the above list. This may leave the bench a little too right-handed, but I don't know if I'd take Niewenhuis over Cuddyer or Lagares. Discuss!
  11. I had similar thoughts when I saw all of those empty seats last night. I was wondering if the Pope would want to drop everything and join me on a quick jaunt to Cincinnati.
  12. Cespedes 1.2 Duda 2.3 Familia 0.5 Goeddel 0.5 Granderson 0.5 Matz 2.2 Murphy 1.3 Reed 0.5 Wright 1
  13. Yesterday, knowing that the Nationals had already lost I went into the Mets-Reds game with more of a sense of ease than I've had in weeks. I do want them to lock this thing down as soon as possible, but it will take a few consecutive bad days for me to start getting nervous again.

  15. Totally rational now.

  17. Thursday was more than a good day; it was a very good day. The Orioles completed their three-game sweep at Nationals Park (thanks guys!) in a late afternoon game and the Mets followed that with a win in Cincinnati. The NL East lead goes from 6.5 games to 7.5, with only 9 games remaining. The magic number drops two notches from 5 to 3. The NHOP takes a severe drop to its lowest point of the year, from .238 to .158. The Mets can still clinch as early as Saturday. As I type this, that's just the day after tomorrow! When you read this, it might actually be tomorrow! 18. Ramos smashed a deep homer to left field to tie the game in the bottom of the 7th. 3-3.
  19. Harper ends the inning with a GIDP. I think the Nationals hit for their starter, and if so, they're into the bullpen for the top of the 6th.
  20. Voting for the first two games of the recent series against the Braves will close on Friday, but not before 12 noon. Schaefer POTG 9/21/15 - Mets 4, Braves 0 Schaefer POTG 9/22/15 - Braves 6, Mets 2
  21. Maybe this one won't come so easily. Nationals have two runs home in the 5th and still only one out. 3-2 Orioles, Harper up with a runner on first.
  22. It would be so nice for the Orioles to win this game. Not only for the magic number, but I think it would help the psyche of the Mets players as they get ready for their game in Cincinnati.
