  1. I never thought about it, but I guess Curtis is somebody's grandson!

  3. Well, if the Giants and Cardinals end up tied for the second wild card spot, neither team will have their ace lined up for the Monday tie-breaker, so that wouldn't impact who starts the Wednesday game. Hopefully the Mets punch their ticket before Sunday's game, let Ynoa or Montero start that meaningless game, and have Syndergaard well-rested for Wednesday. Otherwise, the options for Wednesday are Colon on three days rest, or Lugo or Gsellman.
  4. I agree. And only if the Mets need the game to secure a wild card spot, not for home field advantage. I'd be okay with giving Noah an inning or two on Sunday if Wednesday's game is assured, but I don't think the Mets would pitch any of their young starters on three days rest between starts. Maybe Colon, but nobody else.
  5. Yeah, like he knows how to read a map.
  6. Cole Hamels has 32 starts against the Mets.
  7. I keep hoping that Gary shares some anecdotes about how stupid Tom Koehler is.
  8. This is the kind of stuff we need.
  9. The foul ball isn't challengable, if that's a word.
  10. That does seem rather obvious.
  11. Yeah, I guess they figured he wasn't going to pitch again anyway so they might as well get the surgery done so he can begin healing all the sooner so that he'll be ready for whatever injury comes next. If the Mets do have a postseason roster this year it will be very different from last year's.
  12. Last call for games from the first half of September. If you still have games that you intend to vote for, please do so tonight or tomorrow.
  13. It's obvious that he follows the team very closely.
  14. Given that the Cubs are looming as the opponent for whoever wins next Wednesday's game, even the team that outlasts the other two will still have ursine concerns.
  15. Magic Numbers: Mets over Cardinals: 5. Mets over Giants: 6. Tragic Numbers: Giants over Mets: 7. Cardinals over Mets: 8. Soonest that Mets can clinch a wild card: Thursday. The could potentially have three post-clinching games to setup their rotation and/or try to secure home field advantage for the October 5 playoff game. Soonest that Mets can be eliminated: Friday. Their MWOM (Minimum Window of Meaningfulness) now extends through Friday, September 30. At most, they'll play two meaningless games.
  16. Cast your vote!
  17. The Mets only have to finish ahead of one of the teams. I would say yesterday is a slight positive, because we're one day closer to the end of the season and the Cardinals failed to gain any ground.

  19. They even tried kissing it to make it feel better.
  20. I agree. Even if the Mets have to go into the NLDS with a rotation of Ynoa, Montero, Verrett, and Gilmartin I'd be happy to be there.
  21. The Mets have a magic number of 6 over the Cardinals and 6 over the Giants. If all goes well the next few days, the Mets can clinch one of the two Wild Card positions by the end of Wednesday's action. (That's the day after tomorrow!) On the more pessimistic side, the Mets have guaranteed that their games will have meaning at least through Friday. Their tragic number against the Giants is 8 and it's 9 for the Cardinals. If everything goes wrong, meaning 17 unhappy outcomes in 17 games over the next five days, the Mets will be eliminated at the end of Friday's action. That seems pretty unlikely, but it means that, as of the moment, the extent of their "Minimum Window of Meaningfulness" (that's the MWOM) is Friday, September 30. Let's see if, and how quickly, the Mets can push the MWOM to October 2 and then to October 5.
  22. The clubhouse shop also stocks merchandise for Seaver, Hernandez, and Piazza, and it's really been a long time since any of them have played. Their place in Mets history, however, is secure. And the same can be said of David Wright.
  23. I've been wondering about that FERNANDEZ 16 jersey that was hanging in the Mets dugout. I read that they're bringing it with them to Miami. I think they should leave it there, donate it to the Marlins museum, if they have one, or just to the organization in general if they don't have a museum yet. If they don't do that, sooner or later we may find out that they're selling it at auction, which would, of course, be crass and tasteless. Which is why I'm afraid they might do it.
  24. It's standard practice for teams already in the postseason to use their "A" lineup against other contending teams and use the games against non-contenders for resting their best players.
