  1. I agree. They're treating it as a separate "series", which is logical, but a one-game roster really doesn't make sense. The Wild Card roster should carry over into the Division Series unless there's an injury (or a recovery from an injury).
  2. Ty Kelly? Or Kelly Johnson? This year Kelly Johnson is .245/.273/.434 against lefties and /247/.313/.382 against righties.
  3. The ups and downs for 2016 are somewhat similar to 2015. Notable differences are that the brief dip below .500 came later in 2016, and the surge at the end of the season was much more dramatic in 2015.
  4. Now that the regular season is concluded, here are the players that led the Mets in a number of batting and pitching categories: Games: Granderson 150 At Bats: Granderson 545 Runs: Granderson 88 Hits: Cabrera 146 Singles: Cabrera 92 Doubles: Cabrera 30 Triples: Granderson 5 Home Runs: Cespedes 31 Runs Batted In: Cespedes 86 Walks: Granderson 74 Strikeouts: Granderson 130 Total Bases: Cespedes 254 Batting Average: Cabrera .280 On Base Pct: Cespedes .354 Slugging: Cespedes .530 OPS: Cespedes 0.884 Stolen Bases: Reyes 9 Caught Stealing: De Aza 3 Sacrifice Flies: Cespedes 6 Sacrifice Hits: deGrom 5 Hit By Pitch: Granderson 9 Intentional Walks: Cespedes 8 Ground Into Double Play: Cabrera, Cespedes 14 Games: Reed 80 Wins: Colon 15 Losses: Harvey 10 Innings Pitched: Colon 191.2 Hits: Colon 200 Runs: Colon 81 Earned Runs: Colon 73 Home Runs: Colon 24 Strikeouts: Syndergaard 218 Walks: Verrett, Syndergaard 43 Games Started: Colon 33 Complete Games: deGrom 1 Shutouts: deGrom 1 Saves: Familia 51 (LEAGUE LEADER) Earned Run Average: Syndergaard 2.60 For the Mets "batting title" I had to extend to an additional decimal place. Cabrera's batting average was .2802 and Cesepdes' was .2797.
  5. Because Wednesday's game only requires a one-day roster, according to the Daily News this morning the plan is to only carry one extra starter (in addition to Syndergaard) in case they need a long man. Indications are that that will be Gsellman. This means that Lugo and Colon won't be on Wednesday's roster, allowing the Mets two extra position players. If the Mets advance to the NLDS, Colon would pitch Game 1, and Syndergaard would pitch Game 3. Game 2 would go to Lugo or Gsellman.
  6. Really? Yes, I suppose it would be foolhardy to not risk an injury to Cabrera's knees in a meaningless game.
  7. And the messy scenario FK outlined above is still a possibility. Here's what needs to happen: Sunday: Boston over Toronto, Yankees over Baltimore, Detroit over Atlanta. Monday: Detroit over Cleveland. And since the three-way tie would take two days to break, Tuesday's AL Wild Card game would have to be postponed to Thursday, which is when the ALDS is supposed to start. So if you like seeing chaotic schedule disruptions, you may actually want to see the Yankees win today. I'll bet the Indians, who are playoff bound themselves, would hate the idea of having to play a game on Monday.
  8. First postseason since 1988 to include Mets but not Yankees!
  9. It matters not! I'm just going to enjoy the three days without having to care about who wins and loses.
  10. Good luck! I hope you get to go. I can only imagine how much that ticket might cost!
  11. And the Cardinals would be the home team if there's a Monday game, because of their 4-3 record against the Giants.
  12. The Giants beat the Dodgers. Only one happy outcome today, but I'm quite content. I was hoping for a Giants loss so that they'd end the day tied with the Cardinals. Had that happened, then there would be two possibilities for them having to play on Monday: Both teams win on Sunday or both teams lose on Sunday. Now I'm rooting for the Cardinals to win tomorrow and the Giants to lose.
  13. Got home from the game a little while ago! Boy, was that fun! That was the most important game I've attended in person since the game that was spoiled by Mike Scioscia in 1988. It was definitely a Mets crowd, although it wasn't very crowded at all. When Howard hit that homer it revealed that there were in fact a number of Phillies fans in attendance, but most of the noise favored the visiting team. We were behind home plate, dead center, but about four rows away from the top of the stadium. (I wanted tickets under an overhang in case there was rain.) As the game was about to begin, during the national anthem and the pitcher warmups, I had a surge of nervous adrenaline. The homer by Loney was fantastic, but strangely there was no giant apple rising out of a hat in the outfield. When Cabrera drove in that big insurance run (which prevented Howard from leading off the ninth as the tying run) I turned to my son and told him that had he been born this year, his name would be "Asdrubal." In the bottom of the ninth I was pacing back and forth in the empty row behind us. And with the final out: goosebumps! I had so many goosebumps my clothes didn't fit! I've never been so happy to live within an hour from the Phillies ballpark!
  14. I expect a lineup that includes Plawecki, Campbell, Cecchini, Reynolds, Kelly, Nimmo, Conforto, and De Aza.
  15. The nice thing is... it doesn't matter! YABBA DABBA DOO!
  16. Don't both Club A and Club B get two chances? It's only Club C that's limited to one chance, because the loser of A vs. B will always go on to play C.
  17. I'm terrible with faces. I was only able to identify Gsellman and Kelly. If you want to see who's who, highlight the text below: Pictured left to right are Rene Rivera, Brandon Nimmo, T.J. Rivera, Ty Kelly, Josh Smoker, Matt Reynolds, Robert Gsellman, Gavin Cecchini, and Seth Lugo.
  18. Nice to see that Kershaw is going against the Giants, but to me, a Cardinals loss is more important than a Giants loss.
  19. And then, for the three-team tie, there's this. I hope I'm interpreting everything correctly. • If Club 1 and 2 have identical records against one another, but each has a better record against Club 3, then Clubs 1 and 2 would follow the two-Club tiebreak rules to break their tie to pick the first designation. The Mets and Cardinals are both 4-3 against the Giants, and 3-3 against each other, so in this scenario the Giants are Club 3. Since the Cardinals win the tiebreaker against the Mets, they'd be Club 1. Three-Club Tie for Two Wild Card Spots: After Clubs have been assigned their A, B and C designations, Club A would host Club B. The winner of the game would be declared one Wild Card winner. Club C would then host the loser of the game between Club A and Club B to determine the second Wild Card Club. So the Cardinals are Club A, the Mets are Club B, and the Giants are Club C. The Mets would play the Cardinals on Monday in St. Louis. If they win, they get Tuesday off while the Giants and Cardinals play each other. If the Cardinals win, the Mets stay in St. Louis to play Wednesday's Wild Card game. If the Giants win, both teams fly to New York to play Wednesday's game at Citi Field. If the Mets lose Monday's game, they're not eliminated. They'd go to San Francisco* to play the Giants on Tuesday, and if they win they'd fly back to St. Louis to play Wednesday's Wild Card game. * I would have guessed that this game would be played in New York, but the rule does say that Club C would be the host.
  20. The Cardinals have the home field over the Mets because the next tiebreaker after head-to-head is record within the division. The Mets, so far, are 39-35 against N.L. East teams, and the Cardinals are 40-34 against the Central. If the Mets end up tied with the Cardinals, it would mean that the Mets ended up 39-37 and the Cardinals 42-34. So if the Mets have to play the Cardinals on Monday to break a two-team tie it will be in St. Louis.
  21. They'd have to wear flowers in their hair.
  22. That's absolutely horrible.
