  1. And now Teej comes through again.
  2. Maria Guardado, NJ.com wrote: If the Mets manage to secure a spot in the postseason before Sunday, manager Terry Collins said Syndergaard would likely only throw 25 pitches or so in his final tuneup before next Wednesday's Wild Card game.
  3. Oops! Guess I missed your post! Sorry for the redundancy.
  4. Apparently Alicia Machado, who's getting plenty of attention since Monday's presidential debate, is a former girlfriend of former Met Bobby Abreu.
  5. And despite some rumblings that Bartolo might get today's start, it still appears that the Mets are sticking with the original plan of starting Gsellman.
  6. I still miss Giuseppe Franco.
  7. FoxSports.com wrote: Pittsburgh is 78-80 and needs to sweep its season-ending three-game series at St. Louis that starts Friday night in order to extend its streak of winning seasons to four. The Pirates had 20 straight losing seasons from 1993-2012, the record for major North American team professional sports.
  8. My hunch is that Jose Reyes is the leading contender for second base as long as we're going under the assumption (however illusory it might be) that David Wright will be healthy next year.
  9. Strange that the obituary didn't even mention that he was a major league baseball player. Phil was the UMDB number one lookup on April 1, 2016. I wonder what prompted that?
  10. I remember seeing his 1973 baseball card and thinking, "WHO?" I had no recollection of him appearing in a Mets game, and it's not like I wasn't paying attention either.
  11. Cardinals win in the ninth. Oh well.
  12. Rockies score 2 in the first in San Francisco!
  13. Two outs, runner on third, 1-2 count, top of the ninth, the Reds score the tying run on a slow grounder to third that's an infield hit!
  14. Terry uses Rivera and he doesn't use Plawecki, which pretty much tells me that Rivera has the advantage. Do we know for sure whether or not Salas is eligible? And deGrom is definitely out. He had surgery and recovery time is three months.
  15. According to the Daily News this morning, the Mets are considering Colon on three days rest for Friday's game so he can be on regular rest for Wednesday if Syndergaard has to pitch on Sunday. If they wrap things up early enough, and Syndergaard can pitch on Wednesday, he'd likely get the start on Sunday and pitch two or three innings as a tune-up.
  16. Since the Mets have a 98 per cent chance of needing a postseason roster by next Wednesday, it's not too soon to think about how that roster will be comprised. We can be sure the Mets are thinking about it, so we can too. I figure the Mets have to choose 25 of these [crossout]30[/crossout] 31 players. (I'm not sure if Salas is eligible. Did they get him before the cutoff? If he is eligible, I'd be sure to include him.) I'm assuming that Flores won't be healthy enough to play, but maybe if the Mets make it into future rounds he can return, like Juan Uribe did for the World Series last year. Guys I see as being on the bubble: Edgin, Goeddel, Smoker, Verrett, Campbell, De Aza, Nimmo, Reynolds. Blevins Colon Edgin Familia Goeddel Gsellman Henderson Lugo Reed Robles Salas Smoker Syndergaard Verrett Bruce Cabrera Campbell Cespedes Conforto d'Arnaud De Aza Duda Granderson Johnson Lagares Loney Nimmo Reyes Reynolds R. Rivera T.J. Rivera EDITED TO ADD JUAN LAGARES
  17. That's the ideal outcome: A St. Louis loss tonight and a Mets win tomorrow, allowing the Mets to clinch the wild card at the conclusion of their Friday night game. But regardless of what the Giants and Cardinals do, if the Mets win the first two games in Philadelphia they'll have clinched the home field for next Wednesday's game. The two wins would guarantee they have a better record than the Cardinals and would mean that at best, the Giants could tie the Mets for the first slot. For home-field purposes, a tie between the Mets and Giants means a game a Citi Field.
  18. No, they can at best clinch a tie if the Cardinals lose. The earliest they can fully clinch a wild card is tomorrow.
  19. We once had a whole thread devoted to Josh Satin's eyebrows Sadly, the images posted by dinosaurjesus seem to be no longer available.
  20. Baseball Prospectus is back online. They have the Mets at 98.2% for a wild card, 48.2% to advance to the NLDS, and 2.0% to win the World Series. Cardinals are 33.2%/16.5%/0.7% and Giants are 68.5%/34.6%/1.7%
  21. They're good numbers! Hopefully we'll get one or two happy outcomes in tonight's games. (If I had my choice of one or the other, I'd choose a loss by the Cardinals.) A Cardinals loss would eliminate the possibility of the Cardinals finishing ahead of the Mets.
  22. There's rain in the forecast for this weekend in Philadelphia. National Weather Service wrote: Friday Showers. High near 68. Northeast wind 14 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Friday Night Showers likely, mainly after 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 62. Northeast wind 13 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Saturday Showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 71. Northeast wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Saturday Night A chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 64. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Sunday A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 76. 23. I just checked to see if the odds at Baseball Prospectus had been refreshed, and got a white page with a one-line text message: Playoff Odds will return shortly - doing brief maintenance.
