  1. SEEDS OF LIFE does better than DOZEN GET ANY BETTER and becomes the first New York Post cover to advance to the third round.
  2. Winner of Round 1.4.6 WET & WILD! New York Daily News, October 2, 2016 The Mets clinch a Wild Card spot with a win in Philadelphia. Winner of Round 1.4.4 YO GOTTA BE KIDDING! New York Post, September 22, 2016 The Mets lose 4-3 to the Braves when Ender Inciarte robs Yoenis Cespedes of a game-winning walkoff three-run homer.
  3. And now we're tied at 9!
  4. He can do that because he has wings on his ankles.

  6. A rare Hansel Robles cover advances to the third round. This is Newsday's second consecutive win.
  7. Winner of Round 1.3.3 WIL POWER! New York Daily News, July 8, 2016 A three-run homer by Wilmer Flores highlights a 9-7 win over the Nationals at Citi Field. Winner of Round 1.3.6 MATZ INCREDIBLE! Newsday, August 15, 2016. Steven Matz takes a no-hit bid into the 8th inning in a 5-1 win over the Padres.
  8. This is what you said: The charges were dropped. Case closed. No charges. No suspension. That can't be how it works, because it's possible that the charges get dropped because the abuser intimidates the victim into dropping the charges. Jose Reyes clearly attacked his wife. But the charges were dropped. "No charges. No suspension" means that Jose shouldn't have been suspended. I can't agree with that.
  9. Well, the problem with that is that when charges are dropped, as they were with Jose Reyes, how can we know that the wife wasn't intimidated into dropping those charges?
  10. Or maybe that they couldn't conclude that there was.
  11. For me it's a minor factor. I mostly vote on the overall visual image. Still tied, but now at 8-to-8.
  12. A 6-to-6 tie so far. Looking for a few more voters (and hopefully an odd number of voters!) to make this tough decision!
  13. I don't expect that the suspension will be too lengthy. It sounds like it should be shorter than the one that Jose Reyes received. My guess is at most 30 games. This new information may make it shorter than that.
  14. I would add a spider motif to the uniform. The team would still be the Indians, but every couple of years, the uniform would gradually become more spidery. What does a spider have to do with Indians? About as much as an elephant has to do with Athletics. But if the spider imagery increases while the Indian imagery wanes, it will become easier at some point to change the name from Indians to Spiders.
  15. I like both covers, but I voted for Wilmer, even though the emphasis is on 4 (his uniform number) instead of 6, the extraordinary number of hits that he got in the game.
  16. Noah's hammer beats Harvey's bladder. (Hopefully not literally.) There were Harvey covers that made it to the second round, both of them urine-related. Only one of them will advance to the third round. HAMMERS & THOR is the first Newsday cover this year to make it to the third round, joining three Daily News covers that have already secured their spot.
  17. Winner of Round 1.3.1 METS FIND NIMMO! New York Daily News, July 1, 2016 A three-run homer by Brandon Nimmo helps the Mets to a 10-2 win over the Cubs. Winner of Round 1.3.2 FAB FOUR! New York Post, July 4, 2016 A big day for Wilmer Flores as he goes 6 for 6 with two homers and four RBI as the Mets defeat the Cubs 14-3.
  18. I think the Mets will let Cabrera hold down shortstop for 2017, with Jose Reyes as the backup. Rosario won't come to the Mets until around May 1, 2018 to delay his free agency.

  20. I wish they would just put a spider on the sleeve instead.
  21. I'm between Edwin Nunez and Keith Miller.
  22. To see all Mets born in 1963, for example, scroll down on this page.
  23. Are you older than Julio Franco?
  24. I went through this particular rite of passage several years ago. For me, the first Met player who was younger than me was Jose Oquendo, and the last Met player who was older than me was Julio Franco.
