  1. Piazza with Seaver easily beats Piazza without Seaver.
  2. I did too. "CES BOOM BAH" is a dumb headline, but it's a great photo. And the Post cover kind of implies that Noah Syndergaard's nickname is "Behold".
  3. Winner of Round 1.3.8 CES BOOM BAH! New York Daily News, August 30, 2016 Yoenis Cespedes hits a solo homer in the bottom of the 10th to give the Mets a 2-1 win over the Marlins. Winner of Round 1.3.7 YO & BEHOLD! New York Post, August 22, 2016 Eight scoreless innings from Noah Syndergaard and a two-run homer from Yoenis Cespedes gives the Mets a 2-0 win in San Francisco.
  4. I thought the Polish Prince was Bobby Vinton?
  5. Did anyone else see Mets Hot Stove last night? Josh Satin was at the desk, making his TV debut as an SNY analyst. He was a bit stiff and noticeably nervous, but hopefully he and his eyebrows will settle in after a few more appearances.
  6. Your post made me curious to see how the other two papers covered deGrom's shutout on the back page. Both gave the main focus to the Yankees' win, which is why neither cover was in the Derby. In smaller sub-headlines, the News had "1-deFUL!" and the Post had "ONE FOR deBOOKS!" [fimg=270]https://thenypost.files.wordpress.com/2016/07/july-18-back.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=780[/fimg]
  7. I went with the deGrom cover too, but it wasn't a clear decision. I like them both nearly the same.
  8. Or save it for games that count at any rate.
  9. LANDSLIDE wins, by three votes!
  10. Winner of Round 1.3.4 IN COMPLETE CONTROL Newsday, July 18, 2016. Jacob deGrom throws a one-hit complete-game shutout against the Phillies. Winner of Round 1.3.5 LIKE OLD TIMES New York Daily News, July 23, 2016. Jose Reyes leads the Mets to a win over the Marlins in Miami.
  11. Current brackets, through polls that are completed as of this morning:
  12. If only Donald Trump was equally adverse to going to Washington.
  13. My only guess is that they're trying to discourage the sale of merchandise.
  14. Urinal defeats pig! Film at eleven!
  15. Well, she was certainly woman enough to seduce Yoenis Cespedes into staying with the Mets. Like most of us, he digs chicks with big white spherical heads.
  16. I voted for GRAND FINALE because I don't like the way that the photo of Noah in SULTAN OF SWAAT is buried among all that text.
  17. From what I've learned from TV and movies, the "makeover" simply requires taking off your glasses and letting down your hair.
  18. Winner of Round 1.2.2 SULTAN OF SWAAT New York Daily News, May 12, 2016. Noah Syndergaard slugs two home runs in a 4-3 win over the Dodgers in Los Angeles. Winner of Round 1.2.5 GRAND FINALE! New York Daily News, May 28, 2016. Curtis Granderson leads off the ninth inning with a walkoff homer to give the Mets a 6-5 win over the Dodgers.
  19. Yeah. I imagine the Mets were looking like heavy favorites 11 months ago.
  20. Winner of Round 1.2.6 IN A PINCH Newsday, June 5, 2016. A pinch single by Matt Reynolds contributes to a 6-4 Mets win in Miami. Winner of Round 1.2.4 SWEEPING THE COUNTRY New York Daily News, May 23, 2016. The Daily News commemorates hot streaks by both New York clubs.
  21. All first-round polls have now completed. Voting for Group Four finished this morning, and the winning covers, seeded from 1 to 8, are: 1. 11TH HEAVEN (Newsday, 36.1%) 2. THE HAIR APPARENT! (Daily News, 26.3%) 3. GAME SETH MATCH (New York Post, 25.6%) 4. WET & WILD! (Daily News, 22.0%) 5. YO GOTTA BE KIDDING! (New York Post, 20.8%) 6. HOPE (Daily News, 20.5%) 7. T.J. MAXX! (New York Post, 20.0%) 8. ALL TOO FAMILIA (Daily News, 17.9%) The 32 covers that will compete in the second round include 17 from the Daily News, 8 from Newsday, and 7 from the New York Post. Of the players featured on the 32 covers, Yoenis Cespedes appears the most frequently, on seven covers. Noah Syndergaard appears on four. Jacob deGrom, Wilmer Flores, Matt Harvey, and Mike Piazza appear on two each. Appearing on one cover are Asdrubal Cabrera, Terry Collins, Jeurys Familia, Curtis Granderson, Robert Gsellman, Seth Lugo, Steven Matz, Brandon Nimmo, Jose Reyes, Matt Reynolds, T.J. Rivera, Hansel Robles, Tom Seaver, and David Wright. As a prize for appearing on a first-round winning cover, each of the above mentioned individuals will receive a four-pack of blank VHS video cassette tapes! And for appearing on the most covers, Yoenis Cespedes will receive a coupon redeemable for one free Big Gulp at his nearest participating 7-Eleven! Congratulations to all!
  22. Every day is Julia-Louis Dreyfus Day!
  23. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Because the Daily News won the majority of the first-round polls, this is one of the few second-round polls that does not feature at least one Daily News cover. Actually, it looks like this will be the only second-round poll that won't include a Daily News cover.
  24. SEEDS OF LIFE got my vote too, because of its uniqueness. I pay little or no attention to the other stories mentioned on the margins of the cover. Because the Daily News won the majority of the first-round polls, this is one of the few second-round polls that does not feature at least one Daily News cover.
  25. Winner of Round 1.2.1 DOZEN GET ANY BETTER! Newsday, April 30, 2016. A twelve-run third inning gives the Mets a 13-1 win over the Giants at Citi Field. Winner of Round 1.2.3 SEEDS OF LIFE New York Post, May 22, 2016. David Wright is showered with sunflower seeds after singling home the game-winning run in the ninth inning against the Brewers.
