A come-from-behind 11th inning three-run homer by Asdrubal Cabrera gives the Mets an exhilarating win over the Phillies. Winner of Round 1.4.6 Winner of Round 2.4.1 WET & WILD! New York Daily News, October 2, 2016 The Mets clinch a Wild Card spot with a win in Philadelphia.
  2. There's still one other Post cover in the mix: SEEDS OF LIFE, which currently holds an 11-4 lead over Newsday's IN A PINCH in poll 3.2.1.
  3. Nymr83 wrote: Grimm - Familia over Reed? why? Saves are a crap stat - Familia was very very good this year - Reed was otherworldly Well, I put them right next to each other. I essentially gave them a tie. I agree that saves are a crap stat, by the way.

  6. This is a tough one, but I went with the Gsellman cover.
  7. I've learned that if you accidentally refer to this movie as "Hidden Fences" then you may be considered a racist.
  8. Winner of Round 1.4.1 Winner of Round 2.4.3 THE HAIR APPARENT! New York Daily News, September 4, 2016 Robert Gsellman shows that the Mets have yet another long-haired starting pitcher that they can count on. Winner of Round 1.4.2 Winner of Round 2.4.2 GAME SETH MATCH New York Post, September 5, 2016 Seth Lugo gives up one run in seven innings in a 5-1 Mets win over the Nationals.
  9. Tomorrow we'll see the final poll from Round 3, the long-awaited matchup between WET & WILD! and 11th HEAVEN. After that, we'll take a break for a few days before Round 4 gets underway. At the conclusion of the fourth round, our Final Four will have been established.

  11. MFS62 wrote: Ces Boom Bah is my pick to go all the way. It's definitely a strong contender. It's a great cover, showcasing Cespedes' power and his nonchalance.
  12. Winner of Round 1.3.1 Winner of Round 2.3.3 METS FIND NIMMO! New York Daily News, July 1, 2016 A three-run homer by Brandon Nimmo helps the Mets to a 10-2 win over the Cubs. 13. The Odd Couple is much further down on that list than it ought to be.
  14. I wasn't aware of these! Silly, but fun!
  15. I voted for SIGH OF RELIEF. It's a rather ordinary cover, but SULTAN OF SWAAT is too cluttered. I don't like when the headline obscures the player as it does in this cover.
  16. Winner of Round 1.2.2 Winner of Round 2.2.4 SULTAN OF SWAAT New York Daily News, May 12, 2016. Noah Syndergaard slugs two home runs in a 4-3 win over the Dodgers in Los Angeles. Winner of Round 1.2.8 Winner of Round 2.2.1 SIGH OF RELIEF Newsday, June 22, 2016. Bartolo Colon leaves the game with an injury after facing only one batter, but Hansel Robles and the Mets pen lead the Mets to a 2-1 win over the Royals.

  18. HAMMERS & THOR means, I think, that the Mets won with a combination of hitting (bats = hammers) and Syndergaard's pitching.
  19. There is no specific criteria that needs to be applied when voting for a cover. It's just the one you "prefer", for whatever reason.
  20. I have a memory of Susan Lucci talking to Keith Hernandez about "that game" without seeming to really relate to its significance. Am I remembering right?
  21. d'Kong76 wrote: I often suffer from 'my one vote doesn't really count syndrome' but if the un-voted can muster up a couple more votes for Relieve I could en- vision myself changing my vote* for the Royals' urinal target cover. * -- provided that's allowed under the rules of Tabloid Cover Derby® Yes, the poll does allow for voters to change their selections.
  22. I did a little Googling about Raymond Davidson just now. Apparently he did watercolor illustrations for the New York Times and The New Yorker. I found one web page where a painting he did of a young Dwight Gooden was valued at around $300. (This estimate was provided three years ago.)
  23. I agree, except that it's losing!
  24. I voted for SEEDS too, mainly for its uniqueness.
  25. I'm as perplexed as you are. I think Newsday has produced some beautiful covers, but this isn't one of them.
