  1. Current brackets, through the end of the third round:
  2. I know. I think they're both very mediocre, but one of them will make the Final Four.
  3. Tiebreaker winner of Round 1.1.7 Winner of Round 2.1.4 Winner of Round 3.1.2 HAMMERS & THOR Newsday, April 19, 2016. Four Mets homers help Noah Syndergaard to a 5-2 win in Philadelphia. Winner of Round 1.1.8 Winner of Round 2.1.2 Winner of Round 3.1.1 METS IN A LANDSLIDE New York Daily News, April 20, 2016. The Mets homer six times in an 11-1 win in Philadelphia.
  4. It's game over for GAME SETH MATCH as THE HAIR APPARENT wins by a little more than a hair. It's hard to believe, but as I'm posting this it's been about 23½ hours since the last post that was made in the Baseball Forum. I guess the Mets haven't been giving us much to talk about.
  5. Wilmer Flores and WIL POWER advance to the fourth round and IN COMPLETE CONTROL, the last remaining Jacob deGrom cover in this year's competition, is eliminated. Our Elite Eight now has six covers: four from the Daily News and one each from Newsday and the Post.
  6. For some reason, this poll got a low number of votes, but more than enough to give CES BOOM BAH an easy victory. There are now five covers in the Elite Eight. Two of them feature Yoenis Cespedes, two feature Noah Syndergaard, and one is a David Wright cover. Three from the Daily News and one each from the Post and Newsday.
  7. New York Daily News wrote: The Mets and catcher Travis d’Arnaud avoided arbitration with a one-year, $1.875 million deal on Friday, a source familiar with the deal confirmed to the Daily News. The 27-year-old had a terrible 2016 season, with 62 hits — only seven extra-base — and 15 RBI in 251 at-bats. But in 2015, he had 27 extra-base hits, including 12 home runs, in only 67 games. On Friday the Mets also reportedly agreed to terms with lefthander Josh Edgin, righthander Addison Reed ($7.75 million) and righthander Jeurys Familia ($7.425 million).
  8. SULTAN OF SWAAT becomes the fourth cover to advance to our Elite Eight. Noah Syndergaard will be represented twice in the fourth round, with SULTAN and also with Newsday's ever-popular HAMMERS & THOR. The other two covers so far are METS IN A LANDSLIDE (Daily News) and SEEDS OF LIFE (New York Post). Fourth-round voting will begin on Monday.
  9. Each poll runs for exactly seven days. So the final poll, which will kick off on February 2, will end on the 9th, at the same time of day that the poll was opened.
  10. There's the potential that this may change if there's a need to wait for tiebreakers, but right now the schedule looks like this: Round Four, with four polls reducing the field from eight covers to four, will run from Monday, January 16 through Thursday, January 19. Round Five will be two polls: Group One winner vs. Group Two winner, and Group Three vs. Group Four. Both will kick off on January 26. Round Six is one poll, for the Championship, and that's scheduled for February 2.
  11. Lefthanded pitcher Adam Wilk, formerly of the Tampa Bay organization, and who's pitched in the majors for the Tigers and Angels, has signed a minor league deal with the Mets. Is he worthy of our love?
  12. I thought that was James Bond.
  13. Both covers are pretty celebratory. And the tie remains... unbroken!
  14. A few more votes have come in, but the poll remains tied. There seem to still be a few voters yet to be heard from. These "undecided voters" are in a position of great power and influence! Please be sure to chime in and make your voices heard!
  15. IN A PINCH is out, and SEEDS OF LIFE is in, becoming the third cover, and the first from the New York Post, to advance to the fourth round this year. It joins the Daily News' METS IN A LANDSLIDE and Newsday's HAMMERS & THOR.
  16. I find it strangely gratifying that there are a few here who still remember "Vanis Takee" ten years later! It will probably be my most lasting contribution to American culture. And as for Beyonce, she's the girlfriend that I'm going to Cuba with!
  17. You're probably still getting used to your new surname.
  18. Did Evans and Sewald not want to get invited to camp for some reason?
  19. Centerfield wrote: I heard that BG is trying to get someone to perform the song at this year's Cover Derby celebration but so far A-List performers have been shunning him. They're all overrated anyway. Sad!
  20. A brief history of Vanis Takee
  21. I still remember the Pavlovian reaction I would have to hearing that Vanis Takee song while watching a Mets game during 2006.
  22. This poll is now closed, and in an upset HAMMERS & THOR has knocked YA GOTTA RELIEVE out of the competition. HAMMERS becomes the first Newsday cover in the brief history of the Tabloid Cover Derby to advance to the fourth round. With the exit of RELIEVE, the final Matt Harvey cover has been eliminated. Also, in case you missed it, there will be a hiatus for the next few days. Fourth-round voting, in which we'll determine our Final Four, will begin early next week.
  23. This poll is currently tied. Any more votes out there?
  24. 11th HEAVEN for me, too.
  25. THAT'S TERRIFIC apparently wasn't terrific enough, as it loses in a landslide to METS IN A LANDSLIDE. This is the first third-round poll to close, and the Daily News secures the first spot in the Elite Eight. This is one of two remaining Yoenis Cespedes covers in the competition.
