  1. This one is shaping up to be a surprising upset.
  2. This, by the way, is the only third-round poll that will not include at least one cover from the Daily News. SEEDS OF LIFE is one of only two remaining New York Post covers, and, according to Nate Silver, the Post's best hope of winning this competition.
  3. Winner of Round 1.2.6 Winner of Round 2.2.3 IN A PINCH Newsday, June 5, 2016. A pinch single by Matt Reynolds contributes to a 6-4 Mets win in Miami. Winner of Round 1.2.3 Winner of Round 2.2.2 SEEDS OF LIFE New York Post, May 22, 2016. David Wright is showered with sunflower seeds after singling home the game-winning run in the ninth inning against the Brewers.
  4. I'll claim victory because, why not?
  5. Let's talk about Shin-Soo Choo When I tried to think of his name, all I could come up with was Ho Chi Minh. (I could be the next Ralph Kiner!)
  6. I misread that and thought you were saying it was Chili Davis's mom!

I feel like I should know this, but I'm so bad with current players that I have no idea. seawolf17 wrote: SOUTH KOREA: Most career everything, more or less (2005-present) - currently something of a big-contract FA bust I can't think of his name right now, but I think it was the guy who used to be in Cincinnati and may have been the subject of the first "Let's talk about..." threads.
  8. Puerto Rican homers: Carlos Delgado.
  9. I'm totally on team YA GOTTA RELIEVE. Oddly enough, in the last round, HAMMERS & THOR also defeated a Matt Harvey urine-related cover. I'm also surprised that it won that tiebreaker against the Steven Matz cover, which I thought was much better. Newsday has had some nice covers, but this isn't one of them.
  10. Japanese pitcher: Hideo Nomo?
  11. Dominican homers: Sammy Sosa.
  12. d'Kong76 wrote: Went with Thor, have a feeling the urinal cover is going a long way though... I would have thought so too, but it's currently behind 6 to 3!
  13. Netherlands: Bert Blyleven.
  14. Winner of Round 1.1.5 Winner of Round 2.1.1 YA GOTTA RELIEVE! New York Daily News, March 30, 2016. His "bladder woes" behind him, Matt Harvey looks forward to opening the season. Tiebreaker winner of Round 1.1.7 Winner of Round 2.1.4 HAMMERS & THOR Newsday, April 19, 2016. Four Mets homers help Noah Syndergaard to a 5-2 win in Philadelphia.
  15. I've been sort of out of touch for a while. I had forgotten all about Jay Bruce, but I see that he's still a Met. My guess is that that will change before February 1.
  16. Winner of Round 1.1.8 Winner of Round 2.1.2 METS IN A LANDSLIDE New York Daily News, April 20, 2016. The Mets homer six times in an 11-1 win in Philadelphia. Winner of Round 1.1.1 Winner of Round 2.1.3 THAT'S TERRIFIC! New York Daily News, January 7, 2016. Mike Piazza will be joining Tom Seaver in the Hall of Fame.
  17. Current brackets, as of the beginning of the third round.
  18. And we do, in fact, have our first unanimous decision. The last remaining Jeurys Familia cover is out of the competition, as Newsday's 11th HEAVEN moves to the third round. It's one of five Newsday covers still in the game.
  19. The lone remaining T.J. Rivera cover is eliminated, as the Daily News gets its ninth second-round win.
  20. GAME SETH MATCH, along with SEEDS OF LIFE, will be the only two covers representing the New York Post in this year's Sweet Sixteen. Yet another Yoenis Cespedes cover is eliminated, but he'll be represented on two covers in the third round. Only he and Noah Sydergaard still have two shots at having their image hanging in the lobby behind Maja's desk.
  21. Yet another loss for the New York Post, which will only have two covers in the Sweet Sixteen.
  22. Yet another win for the Daily News, as the last remaining Steven Matz cover is eliminated.
  23. Edgy MD wrote: Place of death: Rancho Penasquitos, for when Ben Grimm gets back from Iceland or wherever. Thank you!
  24. The Tabloid Cover Derby will resume tomorrow morning when the third round of voting kicks off.
  25. I know, but I've been there three times and I only really enjoyed it the first two times. I think that my reverence for baseball has declined to a point where I'm no longer too stirred up by seeing a lot of old bats, shoes, and gloves.
