  1. Got that one, and six others so far. The 2017 field currently consists of four covers from the Post, three from the News, and none yet from Newsday.
  2. Or they can just shorten it to REPULSIVE SORES AND DISEASES!
  3. Thanks for pointing that out. It's been fixed. I checked to see if there were any other similar problems and I found one: Justin Ruggiano had the wrong first game: July 31 instead of July 30. These values get updated automatically whenever I paste in a box score, but something must have gone wrong when I pasted the July 30 box score.
  4. Maybe you should have one of your ribs removed.
  5. I can tell you that Phillies fans really do think that "Ya Gotta Believe" is from the 1980 Phillies.
  6. I think it means that Ivanka will be selling them the uniforms. And the team color will be orange and the caps will look like birds nests.
  7. That photo makes it look like he has a big ugly penis.
  8. He looks pretty uncomfortable around Maja, doesn't he?
  9. I don't mind the pace of the game. I just don't like how late the postseason games end. And it's a problem for MLB, too. People won't bother to watch a World Series game if they know they're going to go to bed before it ends. (Unless their favorite team is involved, of course.) The simple solution to that particular problem is to have the first pitch at around 7:15 Eastern Time.
  10. I actually think it's significantly worse than the DH, and I hate the DH.
  11. Edgy MD wrote: That's certainly the short-term benefit. And probably the motivation, too. I doubt that the Mets felt that they needed the cash more than the player.
  12. This to make room for Salas, I assume?
  13. Does anyone know how frequently a runner scores when he's on second base with nobody out? It's entirely possible that this would only increase the number of runs that score in extra innings without really shortening the games by much, because the "free" runner scoring in the top of the inning may often be offset by that runner also scoring in the bottom of the inning. And if the runner doesn't score in the top of the inning, I can envision a lot of intentional walks leading off the bottoms of innings.
  14. I'd be okay with the man-on-second thing if it only applied after the 99th inning. Actually, no, I still wouldn't be okay with that. I'd hate to see the game get all stupid after watching for 99 innings.

  16. We really can't start accepting scoundrelness.
  17. And anyway, who's the guy who starts the 10th inning standing on second base? Is it someone that the manager designates? Or is it whoever would be scheduled to bat ninth that inning? And if that runner scores, what pitcher is charged with the run? And if that's the winning run, does the pitcher who started the inning get the loss? Of course, these things are minor considerations compared to the abomination that this rule is. Hopefully it never gets past the talking stage. Is the issue that the games are too long? Or is it really that they end too late in the evening? If it's the latter, just start each game a half hour earlier. Problem solved!

  19. I'm glad everyone enjoyed it! And we already have two covers lined up for 2017! (Actually, that's quite a bit behind last year's pace, where the Mets made a lot of January news with the Cooperstown election of Mike Piazza and the contract to Yoenis Cespedes.) I have a feeling that Maja may not get invited to next year's ceremony. The Queen was pretty pissed off.
  20. Voting has closed for the final thread of the 2016 Tabloid Cover Derby, and Yoenis Cespedes and the Daily News once again prove to be a winning combination. CES BOOM BAH! is the 2016 Champion, defeating the New York Post's SEEDS OF LIFE by a tally of 14 to 7. 2016 CHAMPION COVER CES BOOM BAH! New York Daily News, August 30, 2016 The winning cover was revealed this afternoon in Stockholm in a ceremony in the Royal Palace. The Mets were represented by manager Terry Collins. Also on hand were Sweden's Queen Silvia; CPF receptionist Maja, who is currently starring in the reality show Maja: Ut Från Bakom Skrivbordet on Sweden's SVT Network; a few representatives from the Järfälla branch of the Kran Pool Barn Klubb (Melker, Märta, and Sigrid) and the ghost of Swedish actress Greta Garbo, making an extremely rare public appearance. Maja apparently had a little too much brännvin at the reception prior to the ceremony and got inappropriately chummy with Her Majesty. The reception had to be moved indoors this year because of protests in the street held by a group consisting of Matt Harvey aficionados, bladder enthusiasts, and urine fetishists. After the ceremony the cover was installed in the lobby of the Kran Pool Forum Internationella Huvudkontoret in Stockholm. Maja has changed to her business attire and is back at her day job as our receptionist. As the featured player on the winning cover, Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes will receive a 1968 Chevrolet Nova! And, for being featured on the highest ranked New York Post cover, Mets captain David Wright will be awarded a year's supply of Rice-A-Roni (The San Francisco Treat), Turtle Wax (It gives a hard shell finish) and a copy of the Tabloid Cover Derby Home Game, available wherever fine toys and games are sold! The final bracket: Thanks to all who participated in the 2016 Tabloid Cover Derby! We hope you had fun, we hope you learned something, and we'll see you again in November!
  21. I think he'll have more of a chance in 2018 with Granderson and Bruce gone. I can see an outfield of Cespedes, Conforto, Lagares, and Nimmo. Of course, the Mets may also decide to acquire a player from outside the organization at some point, but that's crazy talk.
  22. It tells me that it's a lot less likely than we originally thought that anyone would want to take on $13 million for Jay Bruce. The good news is that the Mets went ahead and spent $9 million on their bullpen after giving up on the idea (for now anyway) of trading Bruce. That means they were willing to expand their budget! (Take that, Howard Megdal!) I know my post has nothing to do with the Yankees, but I don't give a shit about the Yankees! (Take THAT, Howard Megdal!)
  23. For reducing game time, I'd rather they just reduced the number of commercials between innings. But of course, that will never happen!
  24. Frayed Knot wrote: and even a famous strikeout of a future Hall-of-Famer during a World Series game. I don't think I know about this. When did it happen? Who was the Hall-of-Famer? I've always thought that if I was the hitter being walked, and there were ducks on the pond that I wanted to drive in, I'd consider swinging at the third and fourth pitch. Maybe with the 2-2 count they would reevaluate their plan and give me a pitch that I could hit. And if not, I'd at least (maybe) rattle the pitcher a little bit.
