  1. This is all about keeping closer tabs on Ed Kranepool's health.

It might cost you meaningful games. I doubt that the difference between Peter Alonso and Wilmer Flores over a course of about 15 games is likely to make much of a difference. And those 15 games could net you 162 games in 2025. And I know that there's no way of knowing if we'll care about this at all in 2025, but I think the delay is a worthwhile gambit.
  3. Maybe he'll be putting on the Mister Met costume.
  4. I was a little surprised that Rosario came up in late 2017 instead of May 2018, but yeah, he's a 6-plus guy too. It's just that his "plus" isn't as lengthy as that of deGrom or Syndergaard. I don't recall the last time a highly regarded prospect made the Opening Day roster with no prior big league experience. There was Doc Gooden, but I doubt that he was the most recent example. It makes sense to do that delay. Sure, Alonso may be just a dim memory by 2025, but if having someone else hold the position for April of 2019 gives you that extra year of control, why not do it?
  5. I can't imagine that those "sorts of folks" are fans of a particular team. I can see how an objective observer or an investor may understand that philosophy, but a fan should only care about revenue in the sense that it can provide the resources to build a winning team.
  6. Well, would you rather have wins or stature and gravitas? Wins are better than stature. And wins are better than gravitas. But stature and gravitas? Sign me up!
  7. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: It's always been very clear to me that Fred is the biggest moron in the organization and it's almost always his interference and incompetence that fucks up the club. Maybe we need to plant a resistor in the organization to take papers off of Fred's desk.
  8. I agree. I have to think that there's somebody out there who can combine those skills. Can't you understand and utilize analytics while also having a command of scouting and player development? Are the two things really that incompatible?
  9. Centerfield wrote: It's a shame that new Citi couldn't have been closer to Manhattan. Like LIC or something. I remember thinking (and perhaps posting) that Long Island City would be a great location for the Shea replacement. The Mets not only were unimaginative in the design of the stadium (making it look like Ebbets Field) but also in its location. Citi's actual location does have its advantages, though, with access to the Grand Central Parkway, the LIE, the LIRR, and the 7 train.
  10. But what's the BABIP for visiting teams at Citi Field? If that's lower than average as well, then it's not a Mets thing, but a Citi Field thing. The Mets roster has turned over a lot in the ten seasons they've been at Citi Field. It's hard to believe that the problem, whatever it is, is about which uniform the hitter is wearing.

  15. You should at least pin up the Tim Raines cover in your laundry room or garage or something.

  19. Edgy MD wrote: Todd's a charlatan. A mountebank. A conniver and a confidence man of the lowest standing. So he's... presidential?
  20. Matthew Cerrone is talking about Daniel Murphy. Should Mets bring back Daniel Murphy this winter? Murphy will again be a free agent this winter at a time when the Mets are expected -- yet again -- to be in search of everyday second baseman. The Mets would be smart to consider bringing Murphy back 1) to fill multiple spots on their roster, but also 2) to get him out of the opposing batter's box. I hope he's kidding about (2).
  21. Todd Frazier wrote: "It is Hollywood, so sometimes you have to act out a little bit," said Frazier. "Basically I caught the ball going in the stands and as I came down the ball came out. After seeing the replay there was another ball there and the first ball I saw I picked up and raised my hand up and [Mark Wegner] called him out. It was just one of those things where I thought real quick, I had a split-second, and if there wasn't a ball there I didn't have a shot to get him out." https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mets-todd-frazier-admits-to-switching-balls-to-trick-umpire-on-diving-catch-against-the-dodgers/

  23. No, it was Sandy Alderson. Nimmo was drafted in 2011.
