  2. That's an average value of $25.385 million. I guess we have to hope that he turns out to be what Jason Bay was for the Mets.
  3. Back in the 1960s, I used to drive an Arquimedes Caminero. It was a helluva car. A real chick magnet!
  4. Despite spending the night puking his guts up, I'll bet Nimmo never stopped smiling.
  5. Or else he'll be the Crash Davis of Syracuse.
  6. I'll say JD Davis.
  7. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2019/02/26/nolan-arenado-rockies-offer-record-extension-contract/2989636002/Nolan Arenado agrees to eight-year, $260 million contract to stay with Rockies The good news is that we won't be gnashing our teeth next year because the Mets aren't pursuing Nolen Arenado. The Rockies and Arenado have agreed to an eight-year, $260 million contract with an opt-out in three years, a person with direct knowledge told USA TODAY Sports. He was unauthorized to speak publicly because the Rockies have yet to announce the deal. Arenado, 27, just 16 months older than Bryce Harper, will receive the highest annual salary of $32.5 million, breaking Miguel Cabrera's record of $31 million per year for a position player.
  8. Replacing a pitcher for a pinch hitter doesn't slow the game.
  9. Court-packing (or at least an attempt at it) is more likely because it only requires one President to give it a try, and not a fundamental restructuring of a major industry. But I think the politician most likely to do something like that is probably Donald Trump.
  10. Yeah, we both went live around the same time. I didn't note the date that the UMDB debuted. I really only created it to sharpen my web development skills. I never really expected people to find it!
  11. There's no way that that's an "easy" fix.
  12. Well, http://leaptoad.com/mets/profile.php?PlayerCode=4G97I've done my part!
  13. Anthony DiComo wrote: First baseman Peter Alonso has informed the Mets he would prefer to go by Pete, effective immediately. It looks like you'll have to change the name of this thread! I remember noticing when I was a kid that athletes were always known by a diminutive version of their first name, but politicians always used their full first name. It seems to have started to switch around the time of Jimmy Carter and Richard Todd. Now, it's the other way around. If Michael Conforto was running for office, he'd be Mike Conforto, and if Mike Pence were a ballplayer he'd be Michael Pence. Pete Alonso is trying to reverse the trend. Or else, he's planning on running for Senator some day.
  14. I keep conflating Walker Lockett with Walt Wallet. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Kj995apgYbo/UZO67Dt5nEI/AAAAAAAADYk/cshO9Ik6Mp0/s1600/130426GA.gif>
  15. I agree that while they've built up some depth in the infield and at catcher, they haven't really done so with starting pitchers. If Gsellman and Lugo stay in the pen, the 6th and 7th starters are Lockett and Dowdy. I hope that when and if some of the asking prices for free agent starters start to come down, that the Mets will jump in. There had been a fleeting rumor that they were interested in Gio Gonzalez, but there hasn't been a peep on that one in a while.

  17. I was going to text a Manny Mota fan, if I could think of one.
  18. I was counting McNeil as an outfielder. They can carry six infielders if they have 12 pitchers, but I was thinking they'd have 13. Maybe that's an incorrect assumption. (My guess, not my preference, is 13 pitchers, 5 infielders, 5 outfielders, and 2 catchers.)
  19. I don't see how there's room on the roster for Dom Smith, unless there's an injury or trade. If they're going to carry five infielders, it would be Lowry, Cano, Rosario, and Frazier. Would Smith get the fourth slot? Or would it go to Alonso? Or Davis? Or Hechavarria? Or T.J. Rivera? Or one of the thousand other guys I'm not thinking of offhand.
  20. They're probably sending a bill to the Payson family. After all, it was their championship.
  21. I have to think that they're earnestly trying to find a new home for Todd Frazier.
  22. Reports are that Harper is pretty unenthusiastic about the idea of being a Phillie. Doesn't mean he won't sign there (Beltran didn't really want to be a Met, as I recall) but it keeps hope alive for the Giants, Padres, and White Sox.
  23. And there will be another one in a few days when Harper signs with the Phillies. That one will sting even more, if it comes to pass.
  24. Okay, fine. Now start talking to Jacob deGrom.
  25. They were very interested in Syndergaard, as I recall, but didn't want to give up Fernando Tatis Jr.
