  1. I assume the physical is required by the insurance company before they agree to insure the contract.
  2. He's going to find a foundling baby on his doorstep and name him "Skeezix" https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5a7e1b57017db2560eebc2e1/t/5a7e456e02d7bcc4cf71a6c2/1550263686180/Walt-finds-Skeezix.gif>
  3. I wonder if this deal begins in 2019 or 2020? I guess we'll find out soon enough. (My guess is 2019.)

  6. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/magazines/1.01w.png> Rankings so far: 1. Casey of the Mets (Sports Illustrated)
  7. This is one poll that Sports Illustrated won't win. I voted for that Sport Magazine cover with Tom Seaver.

  9. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D2dTGExW0AA3WXc.jpg:large> I found this photo online. I think I can identify most of them. From left to right: Swoboda, Kranepool, McAndrew (?), no idea, Shamsky (?), Harrelson, Jones, Dyer. For some reason I can't quite put my finger on, Cleon Jones looks the most grandfatherly.
  10. 85 wins. 3rd place. No post season.
  11. I can't believe what a high percentage of these names are mostly or totally unfamiliar to me.
  12. Is his fate Syracuse, or Islip, do you think?

  14. Well, before the Internet, the daily newspaper (and local radio and TV) was a good source for scores, but for stats, especially if you were interested in an out-of-town team, The Sporting News was ideal. The stats were much more comprehensive than what you would see among the expanded list of "batting leaders" that would only appear on Sundays. As I remember, the stats in the Sunday paper would list all hitters, in order of batting average, not team, for all players who had enough at bats to qualify for the batting title, with local players in boldface. And The Sporting News not only had box scores, but also a paragraph or two summarizing each game. I was really into that stuff back in the 1970s, and TSN was great.
  15. Hopefully it will be a good likeness and a good pose. I'll be disappointed if it's not the knee-dragging-in-the-dirt pose, but even if it's him with his arms above his head or in the set position, as long as it looks like him, it will be fine. I just fear it will be like that Lucille Ball debacle because, you know, just because. https://www.nydailynews.com/resizer/-KhyOIFUrDJzliHey-ZLu01MZtc=/1400x0/arc-anglerfish-arc2-prod-tronc.s3.amazonaws.com/public/2KU5BUKZOCLP4KDOG5TJPQOPGM.jpg>
  16. Citi Field's address, reportedly, will be changed to 41 Seaver Way. (Currently it's 123-01 Roosevelt Avenue.) No statue this year, but they'll unveil what it will look like some time during the 50th Anniversary weekend.
  17. As I recall, somebody had to explain to Wally what "redneck" meant.
  18. I voted for Darryl because I prefer the uncluttered cover, but that really is a great photo of Seaver.

  20. That Ellery Queen cover that was presented today is probably my favorite "find" from when I was gathering the material. There may be others that will be equally unknown, but we'll see. Another note, we're now up to 115 covers. Johnny Lunchbucket shared a really obscure 1962 cover with me earlier today. It will be added to Round 1.19, which will be an exception to the chronological sequence I set up, but I figured that would have to happen if any new covers surfaced once we were underway. Round 1.19 was slated to be the first one to include only three covers, but now that will be delayed until Round 1.20. Reminder: no polls on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays, so after tomorrow's poll, we're on hiatus until Monday.
  21. I gave it three stars. Mildly entertaining.
  22. I think that Ellery Queen cover may be the strangest of the bunch. I actually thought this might be a Photoshop image, but I verified that it's real. Stories by and about Steve Allen? https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Steve_Allen_Show_4100.jpg>
