  1. If he comes to the Mets, he can be 117 or 017 if he wants. He might as well add having the first-ever three-digit uniform number to his list of accomplishments.
  2. That's kind of my point. They might as well keep him, unless they can get back someone who's worth $65 million, or somewhere within a reasonable distance of $65 million. If the other team is paying his full salary, you take whatever you can get, even if it's a 40-year-old who never rose above Single A. But if the Mets are paying it, then they get someone very good (or potentially very good) or you don't make the deal. Given that, I don't think it's likely that he's going anywhere.

  4. I think so too. I don't know about "two great prospects" but if the Mets are paying all of Scherzer's salary (minus the minimum) they should be able to get someone of real value in return. Between the remainder of this year and all of next year, Scherzer is still owed around $65 million. The Mets wouldn't eat that money unless they got back a very appealing package. Otherwise, they'd just as well pay Scherzer the $65 million to pitch for them and hope for the best.
  5. I'm glad that Bizarro and Frankenstein's monster seem to be hitting it off.
  6. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=130240 time=1688013079 user_id=68] Oh, and I took a gamble on Rusty Staub and it turns out that Expos are accepted for the Nats logo boxes --- as it should be.
  7. I only got six of nine. Nationals (I didn't think to include Expos for them) and Marlins stumped me because all or most of their history came along after my attention waned following the 1994 strike. For the Angels, I only got their 20-win pitcher, Nolan Ryan. (43%) Cubs/Nationals: Daniel Murphy 6% Cubs/Marlins: -- (I guessed Dontrelle Willis and Gary Sheffield) Cubs/20 wins: Fergie Jenkins 22% Mets/Nationals: Max Scherzer 51% Mets/Marlins: Mike Piazza 12% Met/20 wins: Tom Seaver 58%

I heard them talking before they switched to the press conference audio. They're some WFAN guys who apparently simulcast on SNY.
  9. I had it on SNY. There was no video feed from the press conference, just audio. Ob screen we saw two dumb guys in a studio eating lunch.
  10. I got everything but A's/Twins. (I guessed Rico Carty; second time he's let me down. I'll have to look at his BBRef page so I'll be better informed!) 12. So, about two innings?
  13. I'm guessing "votes of confidence" for Eppler and Showalter. Or maybe he's going to announce that the Mets will wear plaid uniforms on Thursday day games.
  14. Is he allowed to purchase wins from other teams? The A's don't need the twenty wins that they have, and they would help the Mets a lot.
  15. Today I burned two guesses for the Royals 200K season. Bret Saberhagen and David Cone both proved to be wrong. So I went with Dennis Leonard, because I remembered a Sporting News cover from almost fifty years ago that called him "HILL WIZARD". My other wrong guess was Rico Carty as a Royal and an Indian. Royals/Red Sox: Bret Saberhagen 2% Royals/Guardians: -- Royals 200k: Dennis Leonard 1% Mariners/Red Sox: -- Mariners/Indians: Gaylord Perry 0.6% Mariners 200k: Felix Hernandez 60% Rangers/Red Sox: Fergie Jenkins 0.5% Rangers/Guardians: -- Rangers 200k: Nolan Ryan 82%
  16. He had a pretty bad July in 2022 but rebounded big time in August, so who knows?

  18. Well, the pitching matchup certainly appears to be in our favor.
  19. I got a six today. Had two wrong guesses at the Royals pitcher with 200 strikeouts and one wrong guess at the Cleveland/Kansas City player. Never even had a chance to guess at the Seattle/Boston or the Cleveland/Texas guy.
