  2. =MFS62 post_id=143179 time=1702930128 user_id=60] The cynic in me tells me that he wanted to give the MFYs an opportunity to beat the offer he had just heard from the Mets.
  3. At a glance, he appears to be not awful.
  4. Steve Phillips wrote: I found it interesting Yamamoto went to meet with the Mets for a dinner at Steve Cohen's house and then they scrambled to put together a meeting with the Yankees while he was there. It seemed like meeting with the Mets was a priority.
  5. Has Maurico had his surgery yet? I haven't heard anything about when it's supposed to happen.
  6. To me, the National Anthem is a song about baseball. The lyrics don't make any sense anyway, so it can easily be interpreted as a baseball song, especially since the last two words are "play ball" so I have no objection to it being played before the start of a game. And having different people get a chance to sing it, especially when they're local unknowns or groups of kids is nice. It's unfortunate that it's been politicized, but that's the world we live in. If we got rid of everything that was exploited for politics we'd have very little left.

  8. Reports say both the Giants and Red Sox have made offers over $300 million.
  9. Especially the way Ray Charles sang it.
  10. That was nice. Seeing a packed Shea Stadium, from an area of the stadium where I might very well have been sitting in those later years.
  11. Prior to his death, MacKenzie was the fourth oldest living Met. Now, Rick Herrscher moves into the Top Ten , Al Weis moves into the Top Twenty, and debuting in the Top Forty is Ken Sanders.
  12. I can see something like that happening mid season, Acuna playing second and McNeil moving to third.
  13. We've now seen all of the polls for the second round. Voting will wrap up next week and we'll have established our Sweet Sixteen. The Tabloid Cover Derby will take a break for the holidays and third-round voting will begin in early January.
  14. Still tied. This thread has fewer votes than others, so a few of our regulars apparently haven't chimed in yet.
  15. Probably the latter. The Post's covers are often too noisy and cluttered for my taste. (And the Post generally performs poorly in this competition.) The Newsday cover is nice and clean, but it's not at all vibrant and suffers from featuring an unrecognizable player.
  16. I can imagine their conversation: Steve: "Hey! My last name is your first name!" Fisk: "And my first name is your last name!" Both (in unison): "Let's be friends!"

  18. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/TCD.png> Vote for the cover that you prefer. Voting will run for seven days. CLUELESS Newsday, June 22, 2023. Winner of https://phpbb3.leaptoad.com/mets/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=32870Round 1.15 http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2023/20230624_NYP_02.jpg>
  19. I hope I don't sound crass here, but will Mauricio be accumulating service time in 2024? Or since he has options, can they stash him on the IL of the Syracuse roster and delay his eligibility for free agency?
  20. =G-Fafif post_id=142787 time=1702408520 user_id=55] Rob Zastryzny signs with the Brewers.
  21. The three-way competition for the third base job is now down to two, Baty and Vientos. Or three, if you count Joey Wendle. I think the Mets may have to reevaluate their stance that the position will be filled from within. Maurico (in my mind, anyway) was the leading candidate.
  22. The Cleveland Clinic wrote: It usually takes six to nine months to recover from a torn ACL. Competitive athletes may need a little longer than this to heal fully before they're cleared to return to their sport. Your provider will tell you when you can resume physical activities. Nine months would put us in mid-September. So yeah, unless he heals quickly, this looks like he'll miss the 2024 season.
  23. A Boy Named Seo wrote: The Giants worry me a lot but they seem like the kind of team that would have Blake Snell instead. So I'm voting for Cohen's phat ca$h I actually think we end up with Snell after Yamamoto goes to the MFY Maybe, but I think Jordan Montgomery is more likely than Snell. But we'll see. There's also Shota Imanaga. Imagine if the Mets signed both Yamamoto and Imanaga to join Senga in their rotation?
  24. Edgy MD wrote: It certainly feels kind of like the Mets' turn to make a distinctive offseason move. It does. And I don't think Steve Cohen will be outbid. My concern is that the Yankees overseas cachet will tilt the balance towards them. I find myself hoping that Yamamoto really wants to be teammates with Kodai Senga!
