  1. I don't think I know who Carnage is. I'd prefer the fourth movie to be a Strange Tales kind of movie where Spidey teams up with the Human Torch to fight the Wizard and Paste Pot Pete.
  2. If I remember right, Vic, you weren't too crazy about the first two Spidey films. The third one is definitely the least of them. And I agree, they should tell a good story and use whatever characters fit into that good story.
  3. Glavine 1 Smith 1 Feliciano 1 Heilman 0.8 Wright 2.4 Easley 0.9 Lo Duca 0.9 Delgado 2
  4. Enforced patriotism is ridiculous. That's not the kind of stuff that should be happening in America, but this certainly isn't the only example of it. Why, for example, are school children forced to stand up to pledge allegiance to the country's flag?
  5. So ESPN is taking an Entertainment Tonight approach to sports coverage? I guess they're finally living up to their first initial. Sounds like they're dumbing down in order to get a larger audience. Is it working, though? Are viewers actually tuning in to watch Tiger Woods milking a cow?
  6. Gosh, but that's stupid. Do they really think that many viewers will want to watch 45-year-old Roger Clemens pitch three innings against a bunch of 19-year-old Single A players? Would you tune in to watch Pedro Martinez pitch his minor league tuneup games later this season? Maybe I'd watch it for a few minutes if I happened to be in front of the TV when it was on, but I certainly wouldn't seek it out. I could see YES televising this Clemens stuff, but ESPN? Is the country Clemens crazy? If so, I haven't noticed it at all.

  8. Wow, you even remember the Schaefer point totals from 30 years ago? I'm impressed. (I think. It's also possible that you're insane!) Anyway, it's time to announce the impending closure of the voting threads for this past weekend's series against Milwaukee. Voting will close on Wednesday morning. Friday Saturday Sunday Sunday's 9-1 victory is still a bit undervoted, so if you haven't put in your 2¢ yet, now is the time to do so.
  9. The last time I heard her voice was a few years ago when she and Howie Rose were on WFAN together (for the station's anniversary) and Waldman was going on about how absurd it is that people think she roots for the Yankees. I wonder, does she still pretend that she's impartial? I've never heard her do a Yankees game, but from what I've heard about her, it doesn't sound like she's at all objective.
  10. Carlos Gomez yesterday became the first player ever to be the UMDB daily hitcount leader on the day he made his Mets debut. And he's looking good for two in a row today.
  11. Thank you, G! I don't recall any 6-3-1, though it's possible that for a time that rule was in effect. I simply remember up to 10 per game, up to 6 per player. I don't recall exactly in which years the Mets broadcasters awarded Schaefer points, but the player names I most associate with Schaefer points are, for whatever reason, Rusty Staub and Jerry Koosman. (They may have been the 1975 and 1976 winners.) There's practically nothing on the web at all about Schaefer Awards, other than what's been generated here at the CPF. (Oh, and you might want to try clicking the Shaefer [sic] Awards link at the top of this page. The page you'll be directed to is a work in progress. Eventually it will display actual results of our voting here.)
  12. Steinbrenner is such a wanker.
  13. Right now there are six votes for Sunday's game, and if the voting ended right now, Perez would get a 4.72.
  14. Among the many things you're failing to pick up on is that Perez is NOT getting a 6 for Sunday's game. Take a look at the voting thread.

  18. I think so too. Hopefully we'll get more voters to help dilute those votes.
  19. Voting for the May 9 game in San Francisco will close on Monday morning: http://cybermessageboard.ehost.com/getalife/viewtopic.php?t=6319 The three games against the Brewers at Shea will all wrap up on Wednesday.
  20. ="Nymr83"]New Guy: the rules arbitrarily cap the points at 6 to any one player. Once again, each player gets rated on a scale of 1 to 6. That's no more arbitrary than rating them on a scale of 1 to 10.
