  1. If so, the Brewers' cameras didn't catch it. They just showed a few glum looking players in the dugout.
  2. And a ground-rule double by... SOSA! 8-3 Mets.
  3. Just guessing here: Mookie, HoJo, Darryl?
  4. Foul pop up to Delgado gets the Mets out of the inning. Whew!
  5. I remember when I was eight years old, discussing with my friends whether or not it was possible to stretch a triple into a home run. Shortly after that, Don Hahn proved that it was.
  6. It hit near the top of the wall, so it was almost a traditional homer, but it took a funny bounce. The ball started rolling along the warning track, parallel to the wall. By the time the outfielder chased it down, Easley was approaching third. Easley "slud" into home, but he didn't have to. He scored easily.
  7. Easley gets an inside-the-parker!
  8. White Sox have scored two in the fourth and one in the fifth and now lead 11-8.
  9. On his last pitch of the third inning (a hard grounder to Castillo) the radar gun showed Lawrence at 84 MPH.
  10. Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder, and Jeromy Burnitz are the only Brewers ever th have been named Player of the Month. That seems a bit surprising, doesn't it? I would have guessed Yount or Molitor.
  11. Mercedes Benz is using the theme song from The Jeffersons in its TV commercials? (It's not the original vocals; it's some new version.) I enjoy the cooking tips you see on the Brewers commercial breaks. It's always about tailgating or taters, it seems.
  12. Now it's tied. I'm not seeing the pitches, but I'm looking up when the ball gets hit. And I knew Alou wasn't going to catch that.
  13. Meanwhile, Wright doubles, Delgado doubles, Alou singles. 2-0, Mets still batting in the first.
  14. Lawrence will become the 818th Met. (Castillo was 817, Adkins 816.) He's the third Mets player to have been born in Colorado. (The other two: Ron Herbel and John Stearns.)
  15. A relief pitcher can get a shutout? A shutout doesn't have to be a complete game? Both of those are new to me. It's weird to think that Neil Allen relieved Al Leiter. It seems like an anachronism somehow, based on the years that each was with the Mets.
  16. 8 Hall of Famers? Namor listed six: Steve Carlton, Dennis Eckersley, Ferguie Jenkins, Nolan Ryan, Bruce Sutter, Phil Niekro I'm going to guess that he faced Tom Seaver and Rollie Fingers. Are those the correct eight?
  17. When did "scuffling" become a euphemism for "struggling"? It seems to have happened in the last two years or so. I don't know what the deal is on Schoeneweis. When he was pitching poorly, it seemed like he was appearing too often. Once he started pitching well, now it seems like he's not pitching enough. Whatever the reason, if he's not pitching he shouldn't be using up a roster spot. The games this month are crucial, and the Mets need to have 25 contributors available to them. (If you look at his stats on a month-by-month breakdown, he hasn't had a good month since April.) Sele, by the way, has only pitched twice since July 8.
  18. Voting for Tuesday night's 13-inning loss in Milwaukee will close on Friday. http://cranepoolforum.qwknetllc.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=6995 That will also close out July, so look for the Player of the Month and Pitcher of the Month announcement some time tomorrow. Only five voters so far for that Brewers game, so please get your votes in soon if you plan to and haven't done so.
  19. Maybe Lorinda deRoulet could buy them.
  20. Willets Point wrote: I think we should all chip in to buy the Yankees, make some key trades, sign some poorly thought out ironclad longterm contracts to crap players, and then leave the team in benevolent neglect. Where would you send Jeter? Where would you send Rodriguez? If the idea is to sabotage the Yankees, then it doesn't matter which players you get back. You'd just need to find a team willing and able to take on their salaries. Jeter's 10-and-5, though, so he'd have to be the last to go. Maybe it's best to leave him alone on a decimated Yankees team.
  21. Maybe someone will buy the team and move it to Salt Lake City. Or Guam.
  22. That's not how this thread works, Ted. (Schaefer voting explained) Castro 3 Anderson 3 Perez 2 Mota 1 Wagner 0.5 Reyes 0.5
  23. Edgy DC wrote: Oliver Perez is not getting a defensive 1 on his Strat-o-Matic card. His footwork on that play was awful. Maybe that was it. As I was watching, something made me expect the throwing error. When Perez grabbed the ball I was thinking "inning-ending double play" but before the ball left his hand I was anticipating an error. I rewound my TiVo and watched the play again to see if I could identify what it was I picked up on, but nothing seemed apparent to me. The Brewers announcers said something about his arm angle.
  24. You should contact her. Tell her that story. And leaf through those family archives! Just like she told you how good your review made her feel, you should tell her how good she made you feel. There's really no reason to hold back on stuff like that. When you have something nice to say, (and it's genuine) you ought to say it.
  25. I was thinking that the 84-year-old daughter of Walter Johnson tossed Edgy over her shoulder and carried him out of a burning building.
