  1. Hey, I just checked in and Glavine has a no-hitter through five! (Mets lead 3-0)
  2. Who would you like to see win the N.L. Central?
  3. Pelfrey 2 Sosa 0.5 Wright 2 Beltran 2 Milledge 1.5 Alou 1 Conine 1
  4. You're right; it is the Royals. I wonder what made me think the Yankees were playing the Angels this weekend?
  5. Yes, it is different for golfers. Derek Jeter gets all the money he needs (and much more) in his paycheck.
  6. A lot of people get "ironically" confused with "coincidentally" or "incidentally."
  7. I guess it's me. I could, in my real actual life, work harder and earn more money than I am. But I don't because I enjoy lazy weekends and evenings with the family. If, as a multi-thousandaire, I choose leisure over additional income, then I'm sure I'd make the same choice as a multi-millionaire.
  8. If I have a guaranteed contract that pays $15 million per over seven or eight years, I'd consider myself set for life. That would provide me with plenty of money to give to friends and family and charity without my having to do commercials. And I don't have a place of worship, so that's not a factor. There's no way I would do a shaving commercial for some extra dough. Look at it this way: Would YOU sign up for a one-day work assignment if it paid you twenty dollars? Of course not, a full day of your time is worth more than twenty bucks. I figure the money an athlete gets for making a TV commercial is, to him, what twenty dollars is to me. And I couldn't be bothered.

  10. You'd waste a day making a television commercial if you were financially set for life? Why?
  11. If I was making $15 million a year, I wouldn't be doing TV commercials (except for public service type stuff). If I don't need the money, I don't need the hassle.
  12. The way I look at it, a team isn't really eliminated until they're also knocked out of the wild card race. At the moment, Tampa Bay, with 82 losses, is the only team guaranteed to have a losing season. (The White Sox have 81 losses; they're the only other team guaranteed to not have a winning season.) The Devil Rays are 20 games behind with 22 to play. White Sox are 19 out, also with 22 to play.
  13. The two teams chasing the Yankees in the wild card race, Seattle and Detroit, open a three-game series today. The best thing for those of us rooting for the Yankees to sit out October would be for one of the teams to sweep the other. I'm not sure which team would be best, but I'm inclined to root for the Tigers; I'm miffed at the Mariners for losing nine in a row and letting the Yankees overtake them. But if Seattle wins today, I'm going to want them to win on Saturday and Sunday too. At least the Yankees are playing a first place team. (The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim California) There's at least a somewhat reasonable chance that the wild card race will be tied when we wake up Monday morning.
  14. The hate they have for Beltran seems excessive. I mean, Mets fans have had plenty of scorn for Mike Hampton, but I don't think it was because of him taking the dollars, but because of that shot at New York area schools. Beltran didn't do anything like that, did he?
  15. Steve seems to be trying to step into the "everybody's an idiot but me" role.

  17. It would really annoy me if the Cardinals won another World Series with a win total in the low 80's.
  18. Sounds like the umpire wanted to go home.

  21. I just found out that Rick White pitched in six games for Seattle this season.
  22. Voting for the Mets' 7-0 loss to the Reds on Wednesday will close over the weekend. http://cranepoolforum.qwknetllc.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=7298
  23. Have any of you dads discovered The Big Comfy Couch yet? (It may no longer be on; my kids are both now too old for those beginner shows.) It was a weird show featuring a girl named Lanette dressed in a clown suit. At the end of the show, for some reason, she'd lie on her back on the floor and we'd watch from above as she writhed around assuming various clock positions. It was actually kind of disturbing. I never payed close enough attention to the show to understand what that was all about.
  24. It's weird that guys on a rehab assignment are allowed to play in the playoffs, as Gomez is.
  25. I liked Gina the veterinarian. When I saw her on The Sopranos throwing around the f-word I almost signed up for therapy.
