  1. I was at that game, and it was freezing cold! When I think of cold games that I attended, that one, and Game 4 of the 1988 NLCS always come to mind. Both featured famous home runs by catchers. Sadly, only one of the two ended with a happy recap.
  2. Yeah, she still looks terrific. And I got an unexpected kick out of seeing Harrison Ford, at his current age, in his old Indy outfit. I still dress like I did twenty years ago, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Indiana Jones does too.
  3. It's funny how Franco was a "great clubhouse guy" while he was here (remember how he got on Carlos Beltran in April 2006 for not wanting to take a curtain call?) and immediately after he departed we started hearing about how he was a "bad clubhouse guy."
  4. Which means we're down to only 150 possible World Series combinations for 2007.
  5. I see that a Crane Pooler posted a memory of that game back in 2003.
  6. The only time I ever left a game early was when I was a kid on a Smithtown youth trip and the game went into extra innings and if I stayed I would have missed my bus back home. This subject always reminds me of the people who started pouring out of the stadium when the Red Sox scored two runs in the top of the 10th on October 25, 1986. Losers! Because of their impatience, they missed, by relatively few minutes, the greatest baseball moment they'd ever have a chance to see.
  7. ="Johnny Dickshot"]Meat Loaf is a complete Yankee whore. Yeah, if he was a Mets fan, it would have been Bob Murphy's voice on Paradise by the Dashboard Light. (How great would that have been, by the way?)
  8. I think I'd rather see a musical quartet of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Joe Namath, and Pope Benedict. THAT would be an interesting (and offbeat) nod to the stadium's non-Mets history.
  9. He doesn't still have a place in Oyster Bay where he drives his car into trees?
  10. I wouldn't be at all surprised. If it happens, I'd at least like to see Glavine with the Mets full time during the summer months when his kids aren't in school.
  11. Voting for Monday night's win over the Braves will close on Thursday, probably in the morning. http://cranepoolforum.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=7331

  17. Or until nobody still living has firsthand memories of the day. Anyway, tonight's Flushing weather forecast: ="National Weather Service"]Tonight: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8pm and midnight. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 63. West wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  18. soupcan wrote: I'd hate for the Mets to lose to them again but they can't beat them if they don't play them. I'm fine with that. There's no way I can root for the Yankees in the ALDS in order for the Mets to have a shot at them. Beating Cleveland is good enough for me.
  19. I like "God Bless America" but I do prefer "America the Beautiful," especially when Ray Charles sings it. It ought to be our National Anthem.
  20. Gwreck wrote: Who pitches it? Oliver Perez or John Maine? I'd be okay with either of them. Or Pedro or Pelfrey or Humber or Glavine. It would probably be nicer, though, if it was someone young enough to have another ten years of Mets pitching ahead of him.
  21. When, and how, are they going to stop doing the NYPD and FDNY caps? You know they're not going to be doing it in 2075, so at some point it's going to stop. I guess they'll do it when they sense that few people will care. As we can tell by the outcry about Channel 7 originally deciding not to televise the reading of the names, that year hasn't arrived yet.
  22. Nah, that would be great if it happens, but I'm prefer to see them make a first round exit again. Beating Anaheim or Cleveland would be plenty of fun. And so would beating Boston, which, as I recall, was a lot of fun last time around.
  23. I don't remember who those guys were, other than Zito, and it would take a heckuva lot to make HIS deal look cheap. I think the Mets may not have to worry too much about starting pitching this winter. If Glavine comes back, he'll join Pedro, Hernandez, Maine, Perez, and Pelfrey. With those six guys, you have the makings of a pretty good rotation, even considering the ages of the first three guys.
  24. Shortly after I "cursed" Tom Glavine's no-hitter a few days ago, I was thinking again about how I'd almost rather not see the Mets break their little jinx. I can sense how anti-climatic that would be. So when the Mets do eventually have a no-hitter, I'd like it to be in extraordinary circumstances. And here's the best scenario I can think of: A 1-0 perfect Game 7 to close out the 2008 World Series, in the last game ever played at Shea Stadium. Take that, Billy Joel!
  25. We have to accept that, despite how promising things started out, the Yankees are in the playoffs yet again this year. The thought that they probably won't go in as a division winner is of no comfort.
