  1. We have to accept that, despite how promising things started out, the Yankees are in the playoffs yet again this year. The thought that they probably won't go in as a division winner is of no comfort.
  2. I'd also like to see him come back.

Yeah, well I'll feel more comfortable once they get on the other side of this weekend's series against the Phillies. You're right, as long as they don't fall apart, the Mets will win the division. But I'd like to get to a point where they CAN fall apart and STILL win the division. And they're not there yet.
  4. Wow, what consensus! Five of the first nine voters for the September 10 game voted exactly the same. Perez 4, Wright 2, Beltran, Reyes, Heilman, and Wagner, 1 each.
  5. Voting for all three of last weekend's games at Shea against Houston will close on Wednesday morning: Friday: http://cranepoolforum.qwknetllc.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=7315 Saturday: http://cranepoolforum.qwknetllc.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=7321 Sunday: http://cranepoolforum.qwknetllc.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=7325

  7. The magic number is 14 Franklin Pierce
  8. If they win you're going to have eat that every night.

  10. I remember the guys commenting on one pitch that clocked at 92, but that was out of line with the rest of his pitches, so it may have been an incorrect reading.
  11. I think that right now the long term plan for the outfield is Beltran, Milledge, Gomez. Whether that happens in 2008 or 2009 remains to be seen. I think Milledge would hit 20 or more homers playing full time. If Gomez is short on power, Beltran makes up for it. (It's normal to have one outfielder without a lot of home run power. Usually it's the centerfielder, but, if in this scenario it's a corner outfielder I don't see that as a problem.)
  12. That raised my eyebrows too.
  13. Is Pudge Rodriguez a free agent? I wouldn't be surprised to see him on a short-term deal, though I'd like them to find the catcher of the future, the guy who's going to be around for the next six to eight years.
  14. If the Mets do, in fact, go with a starting outfield of Beltran, Milledge, and Gomez next year, then I'd like to see a veteran reserve on the bench who can step in and play as little or as often as needed. Green can be that guy, or someone else can. (I don't think it would be Alou, though.) Right now my guess is that they'll be willing to plan on Milledge being an everyday player in 2008, but they may still feel they haven't seen enough of Gomez. If that's the case, they may sign another veteran to a one-year deal and let Gomez be a reserve outfielder. Committing to Gomez over the winter would be a daring move (for the Mets, anyway) and I'd be pleased if they did it, but I'd also be at least a little surprised.

We'd also play the Central winner if the NL West winner had a better record than the Mets and the Wild Card came out of the West. The Diamondbacks are about a game behind the Mets (last time I checked), so that could very well happen. Oops, that's wrong. (I'm not thinking too clearly today.) If that happened, Arizona would play the Central winner and the Mets would play the Wild Card team.
  16. If the ump sees a scuff he removes the ball from the game. But the umpire wouldn't have had a chance to see that ball if, after Beltran's double, it got tossed from the infielder to the pitcher. Usually the ump will ask the catcher to let him see the ball after it's fouled into the dirt or something like that.

  18. I'd like the first round opponent to be the NL Central winner. For that to happen, though, the NL West winner will have to have a better record than the Mets, or the Phillies will have to win the Card. Assuming that the Mets play the WC in the NLDS, I prefer the Dodgers as the opponent. As for rooting interest (if the Mets weren't in the equation) I'd like to see Milwaukee win the Central and Colorado win the Card.
