  1. Yeah, but it would be nice if a relief pitcher would put up a zero a little more often. When Mota, Sosa, or Schoeneweis come into a game, you can be almost certain that they'll give up at least one run.
  2. This is not a championship team. They need to snap out of it fast, or there's no October.
  3. Whether my thoughts are sunny or dark won't impact the way the Mets play. I'm not predicting a collapse. I'm simply fearing one.
  4. They're playing like a team on the verge of a historic collapse.
  5. http://www.vote756.com I voted "BANISH"
  6. I'm filled with dread.

  8. Have the Mets had more at bats with RISP and 2 out than most other teams? They've been scoring enough runs to win a lot of games. Maybe they're getting more opportunities than most and, although they're not coming through at a good rate, the quantity has still been enough to win games for them.

  10. I'd say, "I'm Felix Millan! I played for the Mets in the 1973 World Series!"
  11. In 1972, the Smith Haven Mall (Lake Grove, NY) had "Meet the Mets." A bunch of Mets players and personnel were stationed around the mall at little tables handing out autographed photos. I visited every table and when I got home hung the pictures up on my bedroom wall. I haven't seen those photos in years, but, since I never throw anything out, I suspect I still have them somewhere. When my parents moved back in 1994 I collected a lot of stuff in boxes and have them in my current basement. Some day I'm going to look through all that stuff and find a bunch of forgotten treasures. The photos were black and white, and, as I recall, the autographs were preprinted on them. The players weren't signing, they were just smiling and handing them out. Who was there? I remember Bob Murphy and Joe Pignatano were there. I'm not sure which players, though. I think Harrelson and McGraw were there. And Jim Fregosi. I'm also thinking Buzz Capra and George Stone, but I'm really not all that sure.
  12. If the Mets go 7-7, then the Phillies have to go 10-3 to tie. The Mets should do better than 7-7. If they go 9-5, then the Phillies need to go 12-1. Those numbers look pretty good, but the numbers looked a lot better three days ago. A few days ago, Baseball Prospectus had the Mets 99% to win the division. Now they're at 94.6%. Still pretty darn good, but heading in the wrong direction.
  13. I'd REALLY like to see the Mets get a win tonight because I fear that a loss may trigger a freefall that will cost us our October. Not thrilled that our hopes for tonight are in the hands of Brian Lawrence.
  14. The News said something like, if Pelfrey started tonight, then Pedro would have to go on his regular rest, but if Lawrence starts tonight, then Pedro's next start comes with an extra day of rest. I'm not sure how that makes sense. I didn't do the math to figure that out.

  20. Johnny Dickshot wrote: The David Cone bullpen story is a complete fabrication... no? I think so. It's a "he said/she said" kind of thing. Somebody said she saw him yanking in the Mets pen, and he said that he didn't. I'd have to believe Cone. Most people know not to masturbate in a place where there are 50,000 people and TV cameras.
  21. X-Men 3 was on HBO the other day and I TiVoed it. Just this afternoon I burned it to DVD for my son and, to verify that the whole movie made it onto the disk, I skipped ahead to the very end. After the credits finish rolling, there's one additional scene. It's very brief, but it's a man in a hospital bed and Moira McTaggert is in the room. She's reading a chart or something, and the man in the bed croaks, "Moira?" And she turns to him and says, "Charles?" And THAT'S the end of the movie. All this time I thought that they had killed off Professor X.
  22. Because I'm an East Coast secular elitist.
  23. They should've made George W. Bush commissioner. Maybe it would have kept him from running for the White House.
