  1. My vote goes to tight as well. They're definitely not lifeless. Look at all the runs they've been scoring. But when they're in the field they look like they're playing as if they're afraid to lose. They need to shake that feeling. (I can understand how hard that must be. I can't shake that feeling either.)
  2. I really don't understand the quick hook that Feliciano got. You don't generally bring in a pitcher to face one hitter when you have a three-run lead and there's nobody on base. I figured Feliciano's task was to get three outs. He had a margin of error; that one hit he gave up didn't cause an immediate crisis. Is that Willie's version of panic? Calm demeanor, but panicky moves? Here are my Raw Sewage Goat of the Game points for Friday night: Glavine 3 Wright 2 Sosa 2 Randolph 3
  3. They have ten games left in which they can right this ship and storm into the playoffs. I have no faith that it will happen, but it might. So all we can do is stay tuned and hope for the best. Given the state of the bullpen (and the starting pitching!) even if they do stumble into the playoffs, they'll probably have an early exit.
  4. Anderson 3 Alou 2 Schoeneweis 0.4 Heilman 1 Mota 1
  5. Think Delgado is available as a PH?
  6. If this game runs long, who pitches? Sele? Humber? Collazo? Williams? Is that all that's left?
  7. No Schaefer for Glavine tonight. Meanwhile, in our nation's capitol, the Phillies trail the Nationals 6-2 after 6.

  9. Was sorta hoping (but not expecting) to see Delgado's name. Maybe tomorrow. Willis has been awful this year. Glavine's on a hot streak. Let's hope for an easy tension-free victory.
  10. The only change they made is that the deadline moves if the start of the series is delayed by rain. Once the deadline (x hours before Game 1) passes, still no roster moves. (Somebody correct me if I'm wrong!)
  11. You're saying that if there was a ballclub called the New York Jews, and they had this guy on their cap, you'd buy and wear such a cap? http://www.jrbooksonline.com/jew-bwa-ha-ha.gif
  12. Willets Point wrote: Yes, but we don't have that luxury. Not likely, no. If the Mets play badly, we need either the Phillies or the Padres to play worse.
  13. That's true. The Tigers actually blew the division title to Minnesota and went into October as the AL Wild Card.
  14. It looks like the word "Ray" no longer means the sea creature, but instead refers to a beam of light. (Judging by the lettering on the uniform.) Whatever. They should put a picture of Ray Romano on the sleeve.
  15. I don't know. I suspect that the Mets would have been favored over the Tigers.
  16. How many teams are there out there that are not "potentially soft"? Yeah, maybe the Mets will be soft. (I hear it happens to everyone from time to time.) Hopefully the excitement of the playoffs will make them hard. (This isn't going the way I intended. Let me begin again...) I'll be glad if my less-than-perfect team makes the playoffs and battles it out against another less-than-perfect team. What more can a fan ask?
  17. San Diego's magic number for the Wild Card is the same as the Mets' for the division: 9. Yankees have a magic number of 5 for the card, and a tragic number of 9 for the division title. Other magic numbers: Indians 3, Angels 3, Cubs 10, Diamondbacks 10.
  18. I think it would be a good idea to baby both Alou and Delgado from here on in, and having a productive Shawn Green to plug in for them here and there is a nice situation. Letting Milledge sit a few times would be okay, too. There are only eleven games left. If Milledge and Alou sit three times each, and Delgado twice, that's eight starts for Green.
  19. Yeah. That thing should have been banished decades ago.
  20. I too share a Presidential birthday. I was born on Jack Kennedy's last birthday.

  22. I assume that the Pixar films have the Disney taint? Too bad. When it comes to TV cartoon theme songs, some favorites of mine include "Underdog" and "Magilla Gorilla."
  23. I told her that my team was in a fix We haven't won since Nineteen Eighty Six She looked at the standings and she made a magic sign She said what you have is Magic Number Number Nine.
  24. This weekend the Mets play a four-game series in Miami, and the Phillies are the guests for the final four games at RFK Stadium. The eight games to be played over the next four days will go a long way to determining how confident or panicky we need to be for the remainder of the regular season. There are 25 possible ways for the weekend to unfold. Here they are, along with the net results of each scenario. After Thursday's action, we'll be down to 16 possibilities. Friday will bring us down to 9, and after Saturday there will be 4.
