Pixar has set the bar very high. This was a nice movie, visually beautiful, but it just wasn't as good as most of their previous stuff. 2.5 stars from me.

Steven A. Smith is a Yankee sycophant? I thought he was a Philadelphia guy. I never see or hear him on TV or radio, but I do sometimes read his column in the Philadelphia Inquirer. I've never noticed anything Yankeeish about him. -

AG/DC wrote: In a Rodney Dangerfield moment, Jim Beauchamp died on Christmas day, and the most popular lookup the next day at UMDB was Jack Lamabe. I think we should all hit Jim Beauchamp's page and give him a day. Beauchamp did win each of the next five days beginning December 27. With Lamabe winning on December 26, and Danny Frisella winning on January 1, it represents a full week's worth of dead winners.

I can only assume that this means you've been named Attorney General?

So far this has been the easiest offseason ever for me. Last year ended with such a bad taste in my mouth, and nothing has happened this winter to whet my appetite for the new season. So no, I'm not jonesing yet. Maybe by the end of January I will be. I might actually be in Florida this March, with a chance to see the Mets play in St. Lucie or in Fort Myers. That would be a nice way to shorten the offseason a bit.

I checked out his Wikipedia page this morning, and it contained an incredibly inane trivia section. When I looked at it again, the article had been greatly expanded, and the stupid trivia had been mercifully removed. Here's how it read: ] * The last regular season pitcher Beauchamp ever faced was Jim Rooker. Interestingly, the last pitcher he ever faced, playoffs included, was Ken Holtzman. Holtzman also surrendered Beauchamp's first triple. * He collected his final intentional walk and final run off of pitcher Ramon Hernandez. His final run came more than four runs after his final intentional walk. * He singled in his final at-bat. * He would one day play for the first team he ever faced, the Cincinnati Reds. That aside, I was surprised to learn that Beauchamp was the Atlanta bench coach from 1991 through 1998, when they reached the World Series four times. I supposed I must have known it at the time, but I had completely forgotten. Beauchamp died only four days after Jack Lamabe did. Never before has there been such a short interval between the deaths of two Mets players. (Bill Graham and Corey Lidle died 15 days apart in October of 2006.) Beauchamp was the 44th Mets player to die. There are still 777 living Mets. Although as the franchise ages the deaths accelerate, it should be a long time before the dead outnumber the living.

The mitchell LIST! -- the In-Report Thread
Benjamin Grimm replied to Vic Sage's topic in New York Mets Talk
Is that one of the books that Ludlum wrote after he died? I can't say I'm thrilled with this trend of ghost-writers penning novels under the names of dead people. That's taking the term a bit too literally. -

As I've been reviewing Mets minor league stats, I've seen a bunch of really impressive seasons. I then think, wow, this guy could turn out to be pretty good and I momentarily get a surge of excitement. Then I realize that the player is now deep into his fifties and it's become too late for him to fulfill his promise.

If we remember, it will be interesting to revisit this thread a year from now to see if David's 2008 season puts him into a more (or less) impressive group of players.
