  2. Three and a half games out. Five and a half from the Wild Card. I still have hopes for a bit more than a series victory in June. I'm looking for meaningful games in August, if not September. (Or October.)
  3. It looks like Andy Phillips has replaced Robinson Cancel on the 25. The roster on Mets.com doesn't show Andy with a uniform number, but Yahoo.com lists him wearing number 76.
  4. And the answer is NO, but it's close. This game's 1.81 is the third lowest total ever. We had a 1.50 from this game, late in the 2006 season: http://www.leaptoad.com/mets/gamedetail.php?gameno=7218 And a 1.59 from this game, from last June at Yankee Stadium: http://www.leaptoad.com/mets/gamedetail.php?gameno=7299

  6. Lotsa rain in the forecast for the next three days. Hopefully they'll be able to get all four in. If there are two or more rainouts it'll play hell with the schedule the rest of the way.
  7. I don't know of any, but I would think that there might be some natural lefties who are just so bad at hitting left-handed pitchers that they might try batting from the right side. Whether any of them were successful enough as right-handed batters that they actually became switch-hitters, I don't know. On the possibly inaccurate theory that the hand a player throws will usually indicate which side of the plate he'd naturally bat on, here's a list (from the UMDB) of switch-hitters who throw left-handed: Hank Aguirre Bob Beall Lance Berkman Vida Blue Ron Bryant Scott Bullett Morgan Burkhart Melky Cabrera John Candelaria John Cangelosi Craig Caskey Norm Charlton Dave Collins Jay Dahl Doug Dascenzo Jack Daugherty Jack DiLauro Jamie Easterly Greg Garrett Larry Gura Mark Guthrie Carlos Hernandez Ramon Hernandez Tom Hilgendorf Reggie Jefferson Tyler Johnson Gary Lavelle Mickey Lolich Mickey Mahler John Martin Greg Mathews Sid Monge Roger Moret Fred Norman Billy O'Dell Jim O'Toole Ryan Olson Dan Ortmeier Donovan Osborne Wes Parker Troy Patton Brock Pemberton Yorkis Perez Erik Plantenberg Kris Regas Wandy Rodrguez Ron Roenicke Kevin Rogers J. 8. Voting for Wednesday night's 8-2 over Seattle at Shea will close some time over the weekend. Schaefer POTG 6/25/08 - Mets 8, Mariners 2
  9. I had to discard KC's vote, because it violated the spirit of this Schaefer voting rule: ]Any zero votes will be tossed, as they would drag down the totals of those who did vote. If you think there was a game where everybody sucked, just don't vote. 11. Pullovers aside, I have to give props to the Mets, Reds, Dodgers, and Braves for wearing grey road uniforms. The blue that the Cardinals, Phillies, and Expos are wearing look worse than I had remembered. And why didn't the various Pirates get their caps and jerseys coordinated?
  12. And the Athletics beat the Phillies this afternoon. The Phillies are pissing away their lead. The Mets really need take better advantage of this.
  13. I thought his name was "Lopez."
  14. I thought that once we fired Willie, we'd never lose again.

  17. I was wondering the same thing. I think as a matter of course the bench coach takes over, so it was probably Sandy.

  19. I think Vic's idea is terrific.
  20. No, you're not... http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y148/sexybeastage/naked_fat_man.jpg
  21. Rick Reed makes me think of another umpire with a Metly-sounding name: Gary Darling.
  22. Cancel will be gone in a couple of days when (hopefully) Church is activated.
  23. Me, I think a clever GM can figure out a way to trade Oliver Perez without giving up on 2008. I'd trade him for youth and replace him in the rotation with Vargas (still don't understand why he was DFA'ed) or Orlando Hernandez (if he ever comes back) or with whoever comes back in the Perez deal.
  24. Don Denkinger. He made a bad call in the 1985 World Series that may have cost St. Louis a Worlds Championship. (Not that I minded, I was rooting hard against Whitey Herzog's team that year.)
  25. Vince Coleman Firecracker wrote: Maybe you could have offered an authentic New York dirty water dog! Hi-yo! ...or asked her out or something. Well, he's engaged so he probably shouldn't be doing any asking of out. But I think it's okay for him to enjoy some harmless elevator flirting.
