  3. ARRRGGGH! That's going to screw up Schaefer voting. Here's my snap decision: Jose will continue to be "Reyes" but Argenis, should he ever do anything, will be "AReyes."

  5. Maybe not EVERY time. (Like if there are three soft hitters due up.) But with Pujols, Ankiel and Glaus? That was more of a Wagner spot than a Muniz spot. This is the first Jerry Manuel decision that I strongly disagree with.
  6. That's not much. Can they park him in New Orleans in case they need him? Or does his contract or status forbid that? It might also be possible to trade him to a contender who might want to strengthen their bench and thinks a "change of scenery" might help Marlon. The Mets wouldn't get a lot for him, but shedding the debt and getting a potentially useful minor leaguer wouldn't be the worst thing they could do.
  7. True. If he had gone 0 for 5 that day, he would have ended up in 7th place, somewhere between Maine and Perez.
  8. Smith 0.9 Heilman 0.9 Easley 2.7 Wright 2 Reyes 2 Beltran 0.75 Delgado 0.75
  9. I had him in the UMDB as "Charles Doyle" but that's been remedied.
  10. I don't think it's the higher turnout; even if we had a thousand voters for a game, there would still be no more than ten points awarded. I think it's more that voters tend to be more generous in wins. Like in last night's game, which so far only has two votes, neither voter awarded ten points. If it had been a 7-6 win instead of an 8-7 loss, I'm sure all ten points would have been awarded.
  11. Actually, according to the Daily News, the wife ditched HIM for Lenny Kravitz.
  12. SCHAEFER METS PLAYER AND PITCHERS OF THE MONTH, JUNE 2008 The Schaefer Mets Player of the Month for June 2008 is CARLOS BELTRAN. This is the fifth time that Carlos has been Player of the Month, and his second consecutive win. Carlos hit .276 and slugged .533 in June, and led the Mets with 7 home runs and 16 walks. His 21 runs batted in were second to David Wright (24) and his 20 runs scored were second to Jose Reyes (26). Beltran's 29 hits tied him for second place, with Wright, behind Reyes' 36. Carlos Delgado, who finished third in the overall voting, also had some good run-production numbers, despite his .229. Delgado had 6 home runs and 20 runs batted in, with a .476 slugging percentage. The Schaefer Mets Pitcher of the Month for June 2008 is JOHAN SANTANA. This is the second time that Santana was Pitcher of the Month; he also won in April of this year. Santana won only one of five decisions, but led the Mets in ERA (2.27), innings (39.2) and strikeouts (38). And the Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is DUANER SANCHEZ. Sanchez appeared in 13 games, pitched 15 innings, and had an ERA of 3.60. He had one win and no losses in June. He's a surprise winner over Aaron Heilman, who pitched 14 innings over 14 games, with an 0-1 record and a stellar 0.64 ERA. Heilman received Schaefer points in 12 of the 14 games in which he pitched, 8 of which were Mets losses. Sanchez received points in 11 of his 13 games, and the Mets won seven of those 11 games. Sanchez' ERA for June was inflated by two bad outings on consecutive games (June 8 in San Diego and June 10 at Shea against Arizona) in which he gave up 5 earned runs in 1.1 innings. Omitting those two games, Sanchez' June ERA was 0.68. Sanchez is the third different Mets reliever to win Relief Pitch of the Month since the award was instituted this season. (Billy Wagner won in April and Scott Schoeneweis won in May.) 15. I watched the last three innings on TiVo-delay this morning before heading in to work. Was very surprised to see Muniz given the ninth inning, especially with Pujols, Ankiel, and Glaus due up. When he got the first two out, including a heart-in-the-mouth warning track catch by Beltran on Ankiel's drive, I was thinking he was actually going to get through it. I guess not. Even though two of the three hitters were righties, I might have gone with a more experienced Schoeneweis. But instead, even though it wasn't a "save situation" I might more likely have gone with Wagner. There probably wouldn't have been a more dire situation later in the game. Those were three tough hitters.
  16. I'm wondering how much longer they can keep him in the rotation. And if he's NOT in the rotation, what do you do with him? It's not beyond imagining that the Mets might cut Pedro loose before the season ends.
  17. He's no Gold Glove, but I think Delgado's defense is adequate. It's not fair to compare him to Mo Vaughn. He may not have much range, but he does a nice job around the base, with his footwork and his handling of the ball. It's his bat which has been the problem. He's got a decent home run total, but he needs more singles and doubles.
  18. It will be a while, if ever, before I can stop associating Joel Piniero with this game that came in the midst of the Collapse: http://leaptoad.com/mets/gamedetail.php?gameno=7391 This will be only the second time the Mets ever face him.

  20. Two obvious solutions: 1. Don't go to ballgames with your cousin. OR 2. Go with the cousin and take as many photos as you like.
  21. This thread is beyond bizarre.

  23. The question about Cleon's bust would be a great one to pose to Marty Noble.
  24. I thought the Mets had acquired Scott Kazmir and then quickly flipped him for Victor Zambrano. How many suicidal calls to WFAN would there be if that actually happened?
  25. For the money he's making, he should be able to play with just his right testicle! Why, in the old days...
