  3. If the Mets sweep the lowly White Sox (and I've learned to be fearful of teams called "lowly") and the Braves lose the next three to the first-place Phillies, neither of which are implausible scenarios, the Mets will wake up on September 2 tied for the third Wild Card berth. Even if it doesn't turn out exactly that way, the Mets do have an opportunity here to make up some much-needed ground.
  4. The nine living 1962 Mets are Jay Hook, Craig Anderson, Felix Mantilla, Cliff Cook, Galen Cisco, Rick Herrscher, Jim Marshall, John DeMerit, and Ed Kranepool.
  5. In turn, I'll demand a peek inside her backpack. I think that when they make Backpack Girl: The Movie, they should get Monica Keena Mouse to play the lead.

  7. https://www.linkedin.com/in/jenniferbrownme/https://www.linkedin.com/in/jenniferbrownme/ (I'm very skeptical!) Google Image Search thinks she might be Kaley Cuoco. Or Hillary Duff. Or someone named Monica Keena Mouse, who may or may not be a celebrity of some sort. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTr0ckMXNHdd5_aXVrg-JXfpvOO2kgoX1mSiUj2hT-Elpx8A8NS>

  10. I agree. Voters seem to put too much emphasis on the V in MVP.

  12. I hope the sitters understand that bedtime is at 8:30 and that the kids shouldn't get too much ice cream.
  13. It's our Marte who's missed significant time.
  14. It's nice that Lindor is being considered as a candidate, but I'd be very surprised if he won. Especially since it's looking more and more likely that his team won't make the postseason.

  18. If I was his doctor I would prescribe a chill pill.
  19. Which of these three pitchers will be back with the Mets in 2025?
  20. I'm done with Stewart. I would like it to be Gilbert or Acuna. And Megill makes sense.
  21. Yesterday's Rangers-White Sox game in Chicago was suspended yesterday after four pitches! The leadoff batter for the Rangers, Marcus Semien, had a 2-2 count when the tarp went on the field. The game will be resumed this afternoon. It looks like Garrett Crochet, who threw the four pitches yesterday, will resume his start today. I recall a Mets game a few years ago (2021?) where Marcus Strohman was the starter and the game was called in the top of the first. He ended up missing his turn in the rotation. I think he threw seven pitches? Not sure.
  22. My guess is 2007. I seem to associate it with late-season desperation.
  23. There's a difference between the raw number of runners left on base and the batting average with runners on base. If you leave three runners in an inning in which zero runs are scored, that's frustrating. If you leave three runners in an inning in which seven runs are scored, that's satisfying. A team that leaves 2,000 runners on base but hits .400 with runners on is doing very well. A team that leaves 100 runners on base but hits .100 with runners on is doing very poorly. FK wasn't talking about the raw numbers. He was talking about the production with runners on.

  25. Well, one of three teams has to falter: the Braves, Diamondbacks, or Padres. I guess you can include the Phillies too, but they'd have to do more than falter. The playoff hopes do seem to be fading. The Mets need to have a hot September, and that may not be enough.
